Will Forte is joining the cast of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele's comedy flick Keanu, THR reports. For the project — about two pals (Key and Peele) who pose as drug-dealers to re-steal a stolen cat — Forte is slotted to play a low-level pot dealer who's an acquaintance of Peele's character and obsessed with black culture. (In an ideal world this movie will have a crucial crossover moment with that Kevin Spacey cat movie, in which it turns out the cat Key and Peele have been looking for all along is none other than Catvin Spacey, aka Keanu. Pipe dream, but whatever. Forte and his marijuana will be crucial regardless.) The Last Man on Earth star joins Method Man and Gabrielle Union in supporting roles; they'll all reportedly begin shooting in New Orleans within the next couple months. Fun!

From The Secret Of Monkey Island to Star Wars: Dark Forces, Simon looks back at some of the LucasArts' great early 90s games...
George Lucas has a lot to answer for. He gave us a sci-fi film franchise that fired our collective imaginations, and made us fantasise about flying amongst the stars in the Millennium Falcon. It was amazing, exciting and fun. And then he founded LucasArts - a studio responsible for some of the best games of the 80s and 90s.
No longer a game developer following the Disney buyout, LucasArts is now a publisher for other developers, which is a bit of a shame.
There once was a time, though, when they were one of the most exciting developers on the planet, and when the games they chose to publish didn’t rely solely on the bankable familiarity of a movie licence. I could spend many thousands...

Welcome to Sweden Review
NBC is rolling the dice on an idea that not only has long odds, it has the potential to alienate a large portion of the target demographic. That’s not quite as bad as it sounds, because the alienation only comes by way of a potential nepotism backlash, and the public is somewhat immune to paying attention to such things, unless someone stirs them up about it.
Welcome to Sweden is a sit-com that is ostensibly based on Greg Poehler’s real experience as a New Yorker who moves to Sweden to live with his girlfriend. Because his sister, Amy, makes several cameo appearances in the show, there’s every chance that the “the way to get a sit-com is to wait until your sister gets one…,” theory might not sit well with some audiences. Audiences are picky bastards, and are made up of members who...

The Electronic Entertainment Expo is one of gaming's biggest events of the year, but a lot of gamers don't have the opportunity to attend. To give fans a taste of the action, Nintendo has announced a partnership with Best Buy, essentially bringing Nintendo's E3 booth right to your local store.
Taking place exclusively at participating Best Buy locations in the United States and Canada, Nintendo's E3 demo stations will give fans the opportunity to check out some unreleased games that Nintendo plans on showing off at the event in Los Angeles.
Unsurprisingly, Nintendo is being pretty tight-lipped on what exactly will be on display at these Best Buy locations for the time being. However, the Big N has noted that details about specific Best Buy locations and the games on offer will be revealed in the coming weeks.

In addition to revealing "Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games," Nintendo and Sega announced a "worldwide partnership" on Sonic the Hedgehog games this morning, with the first title – "Sonic Lost World" – coming exclusively to Wii U and 3Ds.
"The onetime rivalry between Mario and Sonic has grown into a friendship that has never been closer," said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. "These announcements in conjunction with Sega demonstrate the commitment we have to bringing great games to the Wii U platform, and set the stage for our upcoming announcements at E3."
Details on "Sonic Lost World" are slim for now, but the title is being described as an action-adventure platforming game. Nintendo says they will have more information to share with eager gamers as we approach E3 2013 in June.

Nintendo has finally revealed a release date for the upcoming "New Super Luigi U," but the bigger surprises were the reveal of a new playable character coming to the Dlc pack, along with a standalone retail version that will be available shortly after the eShop version.
"New Super Luigi U" puts Mario's taller brother in the spotlight, removing the red-hatted plumber from the equation altogether. The retail version will deliver everything the downloadable version does, but it's aimed at players who do not own "New Super Mario Bros. U," allowing them to get in on the action without the original game.
Because Mario won't be present at all, Nintendo is introducing a new playable character in multiplayer modes. Nabbit, the devilish creature players chase down to retrieve items stolen from Toad Houses, will take Mario's place alongside Luigi and the Toads in multiplayer. Unlike the other characters, Nabbit can't be hurt by enemies,...

The creators of Cartoon Network's "Adventure Time" don't bury the series' 8-bit inspirations too deep: it's not uncommon for the series to play with the tropes of classic dungeon crawlers as animated hero Finn goes on whatever monster-slaying, treasure-hunting quest is set before him that week, set to a chiptune soundtrack. The season 5 episode "Mystery Dungeon" plays with these elements well, putting a mismatched group of the show's side characters together for an unexpected, stupid journey.
Anyway, that's all to say that D3 Publisher's announcement of their second "Adventure Time" game is a welcome one. Instead of going handheld as they did with the "Zelda II"-like "Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage?!," this fall's "Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don’T Know!" will be headed to consoles and the PC.

The "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" spin-off games have always served a very particular subsection of Nintendo fans - the ones that like puzzle platformers. The games were a mix between Mario's traditional genre of platformers, and Donkey Kong's old school arcade-style, with a twist of puzzle-based gameplay that set them apart from Nintendo's standard fare. After four games, "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" has set a certain standard for being one of Mario's more offbeat games, but the latest entry into the series "Minis on the Move," takes the series' signature puzzle-based formula and shatters it into pieces.
For this entry into the series, instead of players controlling Mario on a never-ending quest to save the miniature toy versions of himself from Donkey Kong, "Minis on the Move" challenges players to help the Minis escape on their own. By forgoing the platforming this time around, the development team at Nst has...

Of the three musical revivals that Encores! presents each season, the second is usually the one with the fustiest book or spottiest score or dimmest commercial prospects. Since 2009, this middle position has been filled by Music in the Air, Fanny, Lost in the Stars, and Pipe Dream, titles far less known or likely to be seen elsewhere than first- or third-position offerings like Finian’s Rainbow, Bells Are Ringing, and On the Town — let alone Chicago, which transferred to Broadway in 1996 and is still running. In a way, that makes the middle show the one that comes closest to the heart of the Encores! mission of exposing underexposed works; by the same token, it’s usually the one most at odds with the need to entertain a contemporary audience. Whether the series is best appreciated as an encyclopedic research archive of whatever strange musical theater works our culture has...

As I mentioned in the preface to the first part of my Wavelengths preview (the one focusing on the short films), there are significant changes afoot in 2012. Until last year, the festival had a section known as Visions, which was the primary home for formally challenging cinema that nevertheless conformed to the basic tenets of arthouse and/or “festival” cinema (actors, scripting, 70+minute running time, and, once upon a time, 35mm presentation). This year, Wavelengths is both its former self, and it also contains the sort of work that Visions most likely would have housed. While in some respects this can seem to result in a kind of split personality for the section, it also means that Wavelengths, which has often been described as a sort of “festival within the festival,” has moved front and center. Films that would’ve occupied single slots in the older avant-Wavelengths model, like the...

In “The Raven,” which opens nationwide on April 27, John Cusack stars as a fictionalized version of Edgar Allan Poe. And in this big-screen extravaganza, directed by James McTeigue (“V for Vendetta”), Poe isn’t just the famous – and famously sozzled – author of “The Raven” and “The Telltale Heart”; he’s also a surprisingly spry action hero, recruited by the police to help solve a series of grisly murders based on his own stories.
Last weekend, Cusack, a newly minted Hollywood Walk of Famer, and his close friend Mark Leyner, author of "The Sugar Frosted Nutsack," appeared at the La Times Festival of Books to talk about Poe, his legacy, the new movie, and the artistic imperative – felt by writers and actors alike – to brave the darkness in order to tell great stories. He also offers some insight into why he hasn't starred in a romantic comedy for a while. Here...

Over the course of her 16-year feature filmmaking career, award-winning writer/director Mary Harron ("American Psycho") has only made four films. Her latest, "The Moth Diaries" (opening this Friday via IFC Films, and currently available On Demand) is her first feature to hit screens since her saucy black-and-white biopic "The Notorious Bettie Page" opened back in 2005. One thing's for certain: this is one filmmaker who's selective about her projects. Since "Bettie Page" wrapped, Harron's been keeping busy writing and directing for TV (including for HBO's "Big Love"), and developing a punk film with her husband, writer/director John C. Walsh ("Pipe Dream") that will hopefully see the light of day soon. "The Moth Diaries" finds Harron dabbling in the horror genre for the first time, adapting the metaphorical vampire coming-of-age bestseller of the same name by Rachel Klein. Sarah...

PopCap Games launched a new publishing arm a few months ago with the goal of creating smaller titles with shorter development cycles (since most of PopCap's games take one to two years to create). That arm was 4th & Battery and their first game was "Unpleasant Horse," which was released for iOS a few weeks ago. While it wasn't nearly as spectacular or well-designed as most PopCap games, it was (and still is) totally free, so it's hard to argue. Seems that 4th & Battery is continuing on the free road, as they've just released a brand new game for iOS: "Candy Train."
"Candy Train" is based on, well, "Candy Train," a Flash game which was released on the PopCap site around 8 years ago. The company has since removed the Flash version, but that's fine, as the iOS version is far prettier.

Show-biz legends Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II wrote nine Broadway musicals. Or at least nine musicals are usually attributed to them -- Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific and The King and I being the most acclaimed; The Sound of Music perhaps the most universally known; and Allegro, Me and Juliet, Pipe Dream and Flower Drum Song acknowledged as their lesser achievements. There is a tenth Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, however, State Fair. Not that Dick or Oscar knew about it. State Fair was adapted to the stage from the movie musicals, which were adapted from Phil Stong's 1932 novel. The live-and-in-person treatment was introduced to the world in 1995, during the period when seemingly every movie ever had become grist for stage transfer. The folks at the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization figured that State Fair...

"Glee" star Mark Salling has announced the release of his debut album. The 27-year-old actor/singer, who plays jock Puck in the hit musical dramedy series, is set to release "Pipe Dreams" in October.

Kristen Stewart, the leading female actress of box office hit "Twilight", set tongue wagging as some photographs of her smoking what is claimed as "weed" have hit the net. TMZ is the first to report that matter, putting one of the pics under the title that read, "'Twilight' Star's Pipe Dream." TMZ, nevertheless, doesn't specify the substance that she smokes.
There are six photos that are obtained by TMZ. All of them are claimed to be taken a few days ago. They show Kristen sitting on the front steps of her L.A. house. She is seen in the pics holding some sort of a pipe in her hand. She is joined by an unidentified male companion and a dog.
At press time, there have yet words from Kristen herself or her people regarding the 'smoking weed' report. All the six pictures of Kristen smoking 'something' can be seen on TMZ.

Cult author Mark Leyner hit his stride in the '90s with meta-fictional novels ("Et Tu, Babe," "The Tetherballs of Bougainville") and short story collections ("My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist," "Tooth Imprints on a Corn Dog"), all hilariously overstimulated, fantastical parodies of mass culture and ephemeral trends both highbrow and low. He created and voiced the audio series "Wiretap" (about a 19-year-old's conversations with pal Kim Jong Il), had columns in magazines like Esquire and George, and co-wrote two books of answers to unusual medical questions with Dr. Billy Goldberg ("Why Do Men Have Nipples?", "Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Sex?"). It was only a matter of time before Leyner's peculiar sensibilities wiggled their way into cinema.
Co-scripted by Leyner, John Cusack and "Bulworth" screenwriter Jeremy Pikser, "War, Inc" is an absurdist Iraq war satire set in the fake country of Turaqistan, where a privatized war has...
