The Three Indian Musketeers
Peter_Young15 August 2009
Jagir is an extremely entertaining Hindi film. It is a lighthearted story about three guys, one of whom (Dharmendra) is heir to the throne of the murdered King Maharaja. He disappeared in childhood, and the king's extremely loyal assistant (Pran) still looks for him, as much as he does for his own son (Mithun) who disappeared on that same day and who happens to be one of the trio. Well, the film follows the story of the three guys (the third being Danny, by the way), their stories, their struggles and their romances. Amrish Puri plays the typical villain who killed Maharaja and who is also the father of Mithun's love interest Usha. Well it will not look that complicated when you see the film as much as it sounds now. The story is refreshing, well-narrated and interesting. It's essentially an action film but has its substantial share of drama and romance. The visuals are great - there's buried treasure, underground houses (located under a cemetery!), the cinematography is good, and the film is set in modern-day Calcutta (well it's 1982 of course). The actors do a good job. The three guys are great, the two girls (Zeenat Aman and Shoma Anand) look good. Pran and Amrish Puri are as always terrific in their respective roles and actually those whom I liked the most in this film. The best thing about the film is in my view R.D. Burman's exceptional soundtrack. The songs are fantastic - and I must note "Aaj Ki Raat" and "Chor Tera Naam Hai" which are my favourite. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and I recommend this to those who enjoy Hindi commercial flicks.

The 3 Musketeers reborn in India

Warning: Spoilers
Saw this film and loved it! Dharmendra! Mithun! Danny! Its a perfect combo! And with Amrish Puri as the bad guy along with underground houses, buried treasure, cabaret dances and sexy girls (Zeenat Aman and Shoma Anand) you know you're expecting a blast of a commercial flick

The film follows Dharmendra's dad being killed by Amrish Puri and Mithun being hurt by swords and thrown out the castle. Later the pair grow up and meet Danny who lost his wife to Ranjeet, Amrish Puri's supposed son

The henchman Django D'Costa reminds me of Jaws from the James Bond films THE SPY WHO LOVED ME(1977) and MOONRAKER(1979)
