The Best of the Best !!!!

There never will be enough space to write about this movie. The writer/director had done well to create a perfect movie.

Star-crossed lovers is not a new concept. We have Heer Ranjha, Laila M, Romeo J and a dozen other. But what makes this stand out is the novel concept and its treatment.

The Telugu ear had never heard such music before. And lapped it up. Plus two heroines. One, the out-going and bubbly Sarita and he other Madhavi, a brooding dancer.

And dont forget Kamalhassan.

Set in the picturesque locale of vizag, this bw movie is not to be missed.

An Epic of Cross-Cultural Romance and Enduring Legacy
best-review9 November 2023
"Maro Charitra," meaning "Another History," stands as a testament to cinematic brilliance in the realm of Indian cinema. This 1978 Telugu-language romantic tragedy, meticulously penned and directed by K. Balachander, unfolds a poignant narrative of cross-cultural love, encapsulating the hearts of audiences with the stellar performances of Kamal Haasan and Saritha, complemented by the notable presence of Madhavi.

The film, a nuanced exploration of love transcending cultural boundaries, achieved not only commercial success but also attained the revered status of a cult classic. Its impact extended beyond Andhra Pradesh, as it ventured into neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, retaining its original language and resonating with audiences without the need for dubbing. "Maro Charitra" etched its name in history, holding the record as the longest-running Telugu film in theatres across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, boasting an uninterrupted theatrical run of two and a half years in Bangalore.

The musical landscape of the film, orchestrated by the maestro M. S. Viswanathan and lyrically adorned by Aatreya, stands as a testament to its enduring charm. Every song, including the English portions of the duet meticulously crafted by Randor Guy, emerged as chartbusters, further enhancing the film's cultural impact.

Kamal Haasan and Saritha, in their lead roles, delivered performances that transcended mere acting, earning widespread critical acclaim. The directorial finesse of K. Balachander played a pivotal role in shaping the narrative, guiding the film to its well-deserved recognition.

"Maro Charitra" remains not only a cinematic masterpiece but a saga of love and tragedy that resonates through time. Its enduring legacy is a testament to the seamless blend of captivating storytelling, musical excellence, and stellar performances, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of cinephiles. As the echoes of its cross-cultural romance reverberate, the film stands as an immortal chapter in the history of Telugu cinema.

A mesmerising tale of Balu and swapna

This movie Proves that love and love stories has no expiry. K balachander sir writing in this movie amazes you. For example There is A scene where Sarikas Mom Burns the Photograph of Kamal hassan & asks her to forget kamal hassan. immediately sarika drinks the ashes of that photo By mixing it In a coffe an asks her in return to seperate His photo graph now from her. For another makers it takes A bunch of conversation to argue with her mom and explain to her mom about her love to convey the emotion in this but balachander sir Just Conveyed in a part of action and its his masterpiece of writing. In this Film Every character respectively represents a Specific emotion In love . Character of sarika Represents the patience where as Kamal hassan represents the Fearlessness And role played by madhavi represents the Sacrifice Which all The 3 elements love need the most.

On the whole this is a Story oF couple Who Starts their love with Beautiful moments in thier life to recollecting the Memories when they are seperated One year by their parents and Sacrificing themselves By becoming a History (Charitra)

Balachander sir 🙏 thank you
