Devanand's last blockbuster
mayank_78219 September 2014
This was Devanand's last blockbuster film at the box office. This film deals with the issue of illegal immigration which was quite a burning issue back in the 70s. It also serves to introduce Tina Munim on the silver screen.

Devanand, though growing old, still manages to give a capable performance aided well by the debutante Tina Munim and Prem Chopra.

Songs are good to listen to and some are beautifully choreographed like "Nazrana Laya Hai pyaar ka".

Though this film is not the best of Devanand's films, still it is one of the better ones.

I was Sound Recordist for the film.

Des Pardes was one of the better films by Mr. Dev Anand, as a director. I worked with him for from 1973-85 and did 9 films, as a Sound Recordist. This film had good content and the script was executed well. It was leading lady, Tina Munim's first film. She was fun to work with and later turned out to be a very popular star in Hindi movies. Amjad Khan adopted a different mannerism and was excellent in the film, so were senior actors like Prem Chopra and Pran. The film had the set of a pub called 'Sam & Nam', which was used for shooting for nearly 45 days. It used to be filled with smoke for the ambience and due to this some workers complained of getting bad throat. So, a doctor was called on the set and entire unit was given a medical checkup regularly. This was first major film as cinematographer by Mr. D. K. Prabhakar, who was assistant to a very senior cinematographer, Mr. Fali Mistry. Music played an important part in the popularity of the film. The songs were very good to listen to, and were picturised well too. The film did fairly well on the box office.

Beautiful movie
rajnikantuniyal1 April 2008
Its a well made movie, Dev Anand's last such movie. It shows the plight of the illegal immigrants and was well ahead of its times. Dev Anand was superb in this movie, especially in the scene where he tries to convince the Asian immigrants that he is one for them by putting his hand on the lamp. The filming of the beautiful song "TOO pee " is one of the best choreographed songs ever in Bollywood. The camera angles in a crowded pub were just incredibly brilliant. It was Tina Munims debut also and what a debut it was! she looks beautiful and competent in this movie> Pran and Ajit also acquit themselves well by giving competent performances.

A must see for all

Execllent Film

Des Pardes is undoubtedly one of the best by Dev Anand . According to Box Office this was NavKetan's last hit film . Set in London and in a small village of India , this film was much ahead of its time .

Beautifully picturised songs , innovative screenplay and direction and an excellent style of story - telling . This film is centered around illegal immigration and exploitation of innocent villagers .

I recommend this film to all Dev Anand's fans and even to those people who have a taste of sensible films .

Most of the DVDs and VCDs released lately have cut many sequences from the film ( some important too) and have twisted the story a bit . But don't get disappointed , the film on DVD and VCD is great too.

Overall - My rating is 9 out of 10 . Dev Anand was superb ; Tina Munim - Great debut ; Prem Chopra , Ajit , Amjad Khan and Bindu - Too Good ; Mehmood and Pran - Good support . Rest of the cast was reasonably well
