Harmless Fun

Andy is tempted by the Devil to cross a fence to eat apples in an orchard. An angel appears to remind him of what might happen if he follows the devil. Good and Evil clash a couple of times. After an apple sings "The Devil In The White Nightgown," Andy has a major nightmare after having eaten a load of green apples, spray-painted red by the devil!

In the end, good triumphs.

Darrell Caulker wrote a good jazzy music score for this cartoon. It's worth seeing for this.

I worked in a Christian TV station many years ago that refused to play this cartoon! I just had to see it after that! Turns out that it is a harmless well-made Walter Lantz cartoon. Highly recommended.

Someone once remarked that "An apple a day . . . "

" . . . Keeps the coroner away," but this misnamed folk wisdom disrespects the role of medical examiners in Society. When somebody buys the farm for no obvious reason, do we REALLY want to plant them immediately, no questions asked? Isn't it better to have an expert on forensic files nose around a little to determine WHO is benefiting from the interment, and if they have a solid alibi? APPLE ANDY puts the panda in the thick of such considerations, as Satan is pictured filling Andy's head with all sorts of murderous thoughts. This sobering tale suggests that Andy's panda homeland is rotten to the core, as illustrated by a "Core-Us" line of topless apple remnants mocking that beloved American institution, The Rock-Tests.
