If you like the book, you will like the movie.

Set in 1930s Antioch during the last days of French Mandate of Syria, Please Don't Leave is the story of Triyandafilis (Olivia Bonamy), a fifteen year old, mentally disabled daughter of a French merchant named Antoin. (Fikret Hakan) Triyandafilis has developmental delay, she has the intelligence of a seven year old kid. Not having much freedom because of her situation she spends most of her time locked up in the mansion. Since her mother is not exactly a caring mother, Triyandafilis's closest friend is actually Sultan (Işık Yenersu), the wife of the caretaker in the mansion. Will locking Triyafandalis up in a mansion be enough to protect her from the evil of the world? Based on the book of the same name, this is the story which will answer the above-mentioned question. Olivia Bonamy, as the naive, unsophisticated but gorgeous teenager gives a superb performance. Işık Yenersu, as the caring motherly confidante is totally great too. The fabulous chemistry between them is actually what gives this movie the power it has on you. I wish such a a story would have better soundtracks, though. It seems to me almost every Turkish movie made before 2000s has these tediously repetitious scores that drone on and on. Though it may look like a slow-paced, stereotypical story to some, you will probably like this movie if you like the book.
