It worked for me.
mmunier5 April 2007
I'll repeat what I felt was so true from one of the comments. "The whole of it is better that the sum of it's parts" I only caught the last 3/4 of it (I guess), as it was screened on good Friday in Sydney whilst having a little lunch. I had a good time with it and it did not spoil my sandwiches. Fast paced, no nonsense about its nonsense because it's there purposely, it's simple and everyone do their bit to make it work smoothly. Unpretentious just there to entertain and if you don't mind, to think a little as well. So gross you have to be blind no to see the deliberation in it. Yet as said before it works and judging from the comment The "Yes" take it from the "No" I understand it's not compulsory to make people to like it, but what puzzles me it why on earth some people disliked it so much, presumably watched the whole thing, and even took the trouble to put a comment, but not the trouble to look at Kirstie Alley name to write it correctly. (Not that I am an expert speller and did double check my own spelling for the exercise). If you're not obsessed with reality and don't mind a little dream and fun and light entertainment - go for it. mm

Good Comedy
dewerte17 May 2005
This movie was a great show of Kristy ally's personality. I loved how she played her character. OK so i might let a bit of the story out in this, but i feel that if you want to see it badly enough the bits i give out will just inspire you to view the movie. It is a great Comedy as well as a movie that pulls at the heart strings. It shows how a woman has to come to grips with things she has put aside because of her career and realizes that love is possible. Through the multiple children and the parents she interacts with it shows her the lesson she was meant to learn. I think it was a great movie. I highly recommend this to mothers and daughters to watch, together.

An Adorable Movie
majorhist4 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Kirstie Alley Stars in this adorable funny young person's movie. Kirstie Alley plays a dentist. She is killed an goes to an area called LIMBO where her supervisor, Lynn Redgrave, guides her like a Marine Corps Drill Instructor in her job as a Tooth Fairy.

She is like the Greatest American Hero from old TV days; She never gets the hang of flying and landing.

She befriends one young man, and by doing this becomes popular with many of his classmates, which at the same time gets Kirstie in trouble with the bosses in LIMBO.

In the end, Kirstie learns how important love is as a prerequisite to getting into heaven.

Great "Feel Good" Flick
gengar_3622 December 2000
This film is really uplifting and a great kids film. The little tune that the tooth fairy sings sticks in your head for ours after you watch it. Dah Dah, Dah da da da, Dah Dah. She has been sent to limbo to be the tooth fairy and in the usual Kirsty Allie Style, adds zest and humor to the job. I give it 8/10 generally and for a kids film, 9.5/10. Go rent it now!!!

Not good at all
bigbearseviltwin6 April 2006
This movie is so bad that it wasn't released, it escaped. I did not think that Kristy Allie could do any thing worse than "Look Who's Talking". I stand corrected. Heck, even her commercials for diet food and imported knick knacks are better. Those were at lest funny. I dislike being negative, but after watching this horrible piece of celluloid trash, I just can't help myself. Some movies are there own reason for being, others tell a necessary story, others are just for fun. This is none of those. To tell you the truth the only reason I did watch this movie was because I was babysitting some of my brother's kids. They seemed to like it but it was pure torment for me.

Worst movie ever contender?
amy-4913 February 2007
With abominable direction, surreal close ups, nasty camera work that has direct shots of the sun, this is surely a contender for the worst movie ever.

So bad its painful, its no excuse that its a Disney film, or a film for kids, even they have some taste.

Its a shame that 2 reasonable stars got caught up in this disaster, Lynn Redgrave does her best amid the surreal camera panning, but its still a train wreck.

Kirstie Alley seems to bumble through it as best as she can, though she does seem uncomfortable at times.

It has to be said, this film is worse than toothache.

Toothless is a movie for everyone
rsaazook22 August 2005
This movie is really not one of the greatest movies around...but it can really grab a hold of ya, has a wonderful lesson that WE ALL can learn from, is very funny...yet at the same time there are some serious moments.

Its enough to bring out anyones inner child! One minute I was laughing hysterically...the next a tear ran down my cheek.

It has a mix of emotions! Ill put it this way...it will have you thinking afterwords.

Language for this movie is pretty good. I would say kids of all ages can watch this movie.

An insult to dentists
roald-127 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
It is remarkable that Disney wants to teach American children that dentists will be punished after death for the pain they have inflicted on their patients. Don't they use anesthesia in the U.S.? I think the American Dentists' Association should demand that Disney withdraw this film from the market. It is often shown on TV channels in Europe, where it is all the more grotesque because we do not teach our children silly lies like the tooth fairy.

What about surgeons? Or ear doctors? Or the personnel performing colonoscopy? Or the IRS employees? Don't they deserve some punishment after death, too? In addition, the film is charmless and Alley really unsympathetic.

The cutest movie ever made....
criscowhite20039 November 2003
I have not seen this movie since it came out. It was a movie that has been stuck in my mind for six years. I am going to buy this one for my kids on Christmas. (bump, bump, badada, bump, bump) Kristy Alley was the best toothfairy yet. And you cant forget about the easter bunny and cupid either. It is a great movie to boost imaginations. And will be in my family for a long time..

excellent diversion film
rockpanrecords5 August 2003
a great concept, the acting of the characters is very well done. kristie alley is especially lovable in this role, as we all know someone exactly like her, usually ourselves. this film will allow the viewer to divert himself from whatever ails him at the time. excellent film, well done.

Why does this film work?
gee-1521 October 2003
It shouldn't. The plot has huge gaping holes in it. The special effects are definitely substandard. Most of the characters border on caricature. But somehow the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

A dentist (Kirstie Alley) who has never really gotten involved with life dies and goes, not to heaven, but Limbo and there, while awaiting judgment, must perform community service. She inadvertently signs up to be the Tooth Fairy and, oh, what a grumpy fairy she is! However, during her time as the Tooth Fairy she develops a relationship with a young boy mourning the loss of his mother and finds, to her surprise, a capacity to love and sacrifice that she didn't know she had.

Ms. Alley carries the film with her exuberant and funny performance tinged with a bit of sadness that comes through in a few crucial scenes. However, most of it is just wacky fun. Her scene where she chews out the Easter Bunny is a hoot and I laugh out loud every time I watch her histrionics during her judgment.

Don't expect a great film but rather an enjoyable one. (After all some of the "great" films aren't really that much fun to watch)

Actually pretty good
domino10032 March 2004
Pretty good movie in which a self-absorbed dentist(Kirstie Alley)who ends up in Limbo after being hit by a car. While waiting in Limbo, she has to work as The Tooth Fairy. She hates her job at first, but ends up getting involved in the lives of the kids. This is a big no-no, because it's against the rules to meddle, and her boss (Played wickedly by Lynn Redgrave)is just itching to have her punished. The Punishment? A one way trip to Hell (In a Hellivator, I guess). In the end, Alley learns to care for others and to allow herself to love. This was actually better than I thought it would be and is fun for all ages. Worth a rental or to add to your collection. Great performances by pretty much everyone and a great directing job by Melanie Mayron.

Brace yourself for a wonderful family film!
inkblot1126 January 2007
Catherine (Kirstie Alley) was born to follow in her dentist-father's footsteps. She does become a dentist and establishes a successful practice. However, she only has a few close friends and does not pursue the men who might glance her way. Catherine is more likely to spend an evening watching videos and eating popcorn than on a date. One day, she becomes the victim in a serious auto accident and ends up "in limbo", that is in a halfway station between heaven and hell! She is given the job of Tooth Fairy in order for heaven's authorities to make a further determination about which direction she should go. As Tooth Fairy, she not only learns to do a good job but also begins to realize what she missed out on in life. What will be her final destination? This is a darling family film. Alley is one fine comic performer and a lovely one at that. She looks beautiful in her fairy outfit and dances her way through the heavens to find her young charges. The plot is fun and the supporting actors, especially child-actor Ross M., are very fine. If you want to sit your family down to a film that will entertain both children and adults, in grand fashion, this is an outstanding choice. It has humor and good messages, with bite, that will put every viewer in a good, good mood indefinitely.

Excellent
pretty_in_pink9124 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen! Kirstie Alley does a great job portraying the role of a tooth fairy. It is a great movie reminding everyone that you are never too old to believe in the unbelievable. It is one of those movies that could be a tear-dripper towards the end, but is still good. One of my favorite parts in the move (probably my favorite part) was when Katherine is put into the Hellevator and shows flashbacks of her life, then she wakes up in the street. I also love the part where she re-unites with Bobby at the end. It is sad she pulls his last baby tooth before she can finish thanking him and he forgets everything. I believe anyone should see this movie. It is very good, I just wish there would of been a Toothless 2!

childhood memories :)
mihaelaignat25 January 2006
I know exactly how you feel about it,criscowhite2003. I have a nephew from a cousin that ask me this movie for about 2 years now, continuously every time he sees me. I talked to every DVD/VHS rentals in my country, I've written to televisions and nothing. They only had the right to display the movie once ... And finally I've spoke with a friend my age and she wanted to see the movie again someday too! She suggested me the internet.

Unfortunately my country isn't listed in paypal and paypal will never be in Romania from what I've heard...and check is complicated :(

I just can't believe the grade is so low and everyone seems to remember it for years as being the movie of his/her childhood.

A Wonderful movie with laughter and to give you a new look on life.
reahgirl22 August 2005
the movie was great i just watched it on the Disney channel. It was funny cute and clever but also heartwarming it was a really, good movie Kristie Alley and Raul(forgot his real name) where really funny and over the top but in a good way they made the movie more exciting, some of the kids weren't the best actors but hey there kids the main one booby was good along with his dad the story was upsetting it might bring you a tear or two but of joy at the end, i think this movie is definitely a great family movie or even a movie for a adult to watch because it gives you a different look on life to be more optimistic and take a chance while you still can and mostly have love and fun otherwise before you know it you waisted your hole life i recommend this movie for anyone any age. :)

This movie is what you would expect from a a Disney movie. Toothless was a good movie if you like Kirstie Alley. The end sort of was a tear jerker. It was a good movie to watch with kids.

Charming
curly99924 May 2011
This is not a movie that I would have rented, but my sister brought it over for my kids to see when they were young. I think it was right after my little one had lost a tooth, so it was an exciting day.

I was very surprised how much we liked it. Kirstie Alley made it so enjoyable and entertaining with her comedy and timing. Love the little tune and the funny characters, too. In fact, we bought a copy of the movie for ourselves and watched it nearly every time one of the kids lost a tooth.

There is a good moral to this story and we can all relate to it.

Ah, yes ... very good memories of this for years to come!

Feel Good Movie!
dbe7464 April 2005
Okay so the acting is sketchy and the special effects could have been SO much better! But you know what? This movie has so much going for it. Kirstie Alley is outstanding in the lead role. She really shines as a comedic actress. My favorite scene is towards the end, when she has to "let down her guard". This movie will make you laugh and it will make you cry. Then at the end, you'll dance a little. It's a cutesy first date movie, and a great movie for the kids! For those who want to know - - the song that Kirstie hums throughout the movie and you that you hear at the end of the movie is "It's Alright" by Huey Lewis & the News.

Great kids movie!
Lynx142417 October 2000
What a delightful movie. Just as I imagined Limbo to be. Cool locations, great actors. In fact this is one of those movies where you think, now I know that person... where have I seen them before? This is a movie I'd show my kids. In fact, unlike a lot of Disney, I'd watch this one, too. I checked it out from the library, and now I'm headed over to amazon.com to buy it. I very much enjoyed it. Great sound track, too.

Dentist dies; turns into tooth fairy. Is this all Allie can manage to star in these days?
MovieAddict201620 July 2004
This is one of those awful made-for-TV (Disney Channel/ABC Disney Sunday Night Special) programs that is both corny and poorly acted. Not wanting to wander from routine, this is indeed a corny and poorly acted movie. Allie looks tired as the dentist who dies and is sent to a sort of limbo where she is given the opportunity of becoming THE tooth fairy (yes, that's right).

This movie is so poor and below-average that I started to think I was watching that Martin Short film about the fairy godmother all over again. If Disney keeps recycling the same material and giving second-rate actors the opportunity to embarrass themselves in measly productions with zilch quality, will the earth suddenly implode? I don't know but my brain hurts from watching this movie too much. In fact I don't even remember writing everything I've written up to this point. Where was I?

Toothless is a horrible little film and I hope Disney (the company, that is) rots for ever producing such a grating project.

TRUTHLESS
Icee_0719 October 2002
The movie has no point in it-just the fact that some dumb kids do dumb things to loose their teeth and meet a tooth fairy. It is completely insane, the roles were poorly played and there is no moral next to it. The movie is Dumb with a touch of Duh.
