Italy’s Adler Entertainment and 39Films have teamed up on an innovative IP incubator called Writing Box that will bring together Italian and global screenwriters with the goal of germinating feature films, TV series and docs for the international market.
The initiative – being launched at Rome’s Mia market next week – is the brainchild of Adler’s Marco Colombo, Mattia della Puppa and Italy-based Argentinian producer Alfredo Federico, founder of Italy’s 39Films. Federico’s credits in the Latin American movie milieu include 2008 Berlin Golden Bear winner “Tropa de Elite” and Guillermo Arriaga’s “The Burning Plain.”
Adler Entertainment is a Milan-based distributor of indie titles such as Sydney Sweeney-starrer “Immaculate” that has branched out into production in recent years. Their productions include “Mogwai: If the Stars Had a Sound,” the doc about cult Scottish band Mogwai that has travelled widely on the fest circuit this year.

Jodie Foster has won her first Emmy.
Foster, who won two Oscars for Best Actress for The Accused and The Silence of the Lambs, has finally triumphed at the primetime TV awards on the fifth time of asking in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Anthology Series or Movie category.
Foster, who won the award for her role as Chief Liz Danvers in HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, said, “This is an incredibly emotional moment for me, because True Detective: Night Country was just a magical experience, and it all comes from the top, the beautiful, wonderful, talented Issa Lopez.”
She also thanked the show’s Icelandic crew as well as her “partner in crime” Kali Reis.
“Mostly the Indigenous people and Inuit people of Northern Alaska, they just told us their stories, and they allowed us to listen. That was just a blessing. It was love,...

Matthew McConaughey couldn’t do it. Woody Harrelson couldn’t do it. Even Mahershala Ali — a two-time Oscar winner himself — couldn’t win an Emmy for “True Detective.” But Jodie Foster has put an end to the franchise’s losing streak, winning the Best Actress in a Limited Series Emmy Award for her lead performance in “True Detective: Night Country.” This marks Foster’s first Emmy win, as well as the first time an actor has won for their work in “True Detective.”
Foster is also a two-time Oscar winner, but Sunday night’s victory also put an end to her (very minor) personal losing streak at the Emmys. In 1999, she earned her first nomination as a producer of “The Baby Dance,” which was nominated for Best TV Movie and lost to “A Lesson Before Dying.” Fifteen years later, Foster was nominated for Best Director of a Comedy Series for “Orange Is the New Black,...

As of this writing, a leading 12 out of our 18 Emmy Experts predict a victory for Foster for “True Detective: Night Country”: Christopher Rosen (Gold Derby), Clayton Davis (Variety), Dave Nemetz (TVLine), Eric Deggans (NPR), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Keith Simanton (IMDb), Kelly Lawler (USA Today), Matt Roush (TV Guide Magazine), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily), Susan King (Gold Derby), Thelma Adams (Gold Derby) and...

She has two Best Actress Oscars and five nominations including one most recently for 2023’s Nyad. She received her first for 1976’s Taxi Driver when she was only 14. Add to these impressive accomplishments, three BAFTA awards, three Golden Globes, and an Honorary Palme d’Or among other accolades and honors. Still it is surprising to note she has never once been nominated for an Emmy for any acting role.
She does have two previous Emmys nominations behind the scenes, one for directing an episode of Orange Is The New Black, and one as a producer on the TV movie, The Baby Dance, but Foster is definitely overdue to jump into the Emmy race.
Well, folks the time has come and she is certainly one of the front runners, not only to get a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series, Television Movie, or Anthology, but also possible to even win.

Jodie Foster is having a good year. The two-time Oscar winner returned to the attention of the academy for the first time since 1995 with a nomination for “Nyad.” Now, she and showrunner Issa López have revamped HBO’s flagging “True Detective” with the best entry since the show’s first season.
“True Detective: Night Country” stars Foster as an acid-tongue, spiky police chief who is tasked with investigating the disappearance of eight men in the spooky, fictional town of Ennis, Alaska. Playing a detective will naturally harken viewers’ minds back to her turn as Clarice Starling in “The Silence of the Lambs,” the film for which she won her second Best Actress Oscar (“The Accused” being the other). It’s her meatiest role in years and Foster devours it.
Brian Tallerico (Roger Ebert) observed: “Our unsteady guiding hand through this darkness is Liz Danvers, played with icy perfection by Jodie Foster.

Marvel has reportedly created a new writing team to pen the script for the highly-anticipated Captain Marvel solo film, consisting of Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman and Inside Out co-writer Meg LeFauve.
The news comes from THR, who state that while Perlman and LeFavue have yet to work together, they both gave separate but impressive Captain Marvel pitches to studio head Kevin Feige, who thought it best to simply “combine the two for sensational results.”
Perlman is a veteran of Marvel Studios’ early screenwriting program, which accepted drafts and pitches from various writers in the hopes of finding talented scribes to pen the screenplays for future films. Perlman’s take on the little-known Guardians of the Galaxy comic got the greenlight and was expanded upon by James Gunn, becoming one of the studio’s biggest films to date. So, it makes sense that Marvel would opt to keep...

"Weeds" is coming to a close at the end of its current season and "The Big C" is getting four episodes to wrap up in 2013, so Showtime's in the market for a new edgy, female-led drama. And according to the Hollywood Reporter, the premium channel's now developing one with Jodie Foster. The Oscar-winning actress is attached to direct and executive produce crime series "Angie's Body," which is described as a "'Sopranos'-like drama" that "centers on a shrewd and lethal woman who runs a family-based crime syndicate." Rob Fresco (of "Heroes" and "Jericho") wrote the script. If picked up to series, "Angie's Body" will be Foster's second project with Showtime -- she produced the 1998 movie "The Baby Dance" for the network, with Stockard Channing and Laura Dern in the lead roles. Showtime's got two new series set for next year...

Jodie Foster will direct and produce an upcoming drama pilot for Showtime. The project, called "Angie's Body," focuses on a sexy and dangerous woman who leads a family crime syndicate.
The project is Foster's first directorial effort for TV, Deadline reports.
Foster will executive produce the project along with writer Rob Fresco ("Touch," "Heroes") and Russ Krasnoff ("Community").
A two-time Oscar winner for acting, Foster has put much of her focus on behind-the-scenes roles over the past several years. She has directed three feature films: "Little Man Tate," "Home for the Holidays" and "The Beaver." Foster also produced several movies, including "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys," "Waking the Dead" and "Nell" (in which she also starred).
Foster has much less experience with television directing and producing. Her only previous TV directing credit was for an episode of "Tales from the Darkside" in 1988. In 1998, she returned to an off-screen television...

Though her film career has been trundling along nicely, Jodie Foster is itching to get back behind the camera and into more television. To make that happen, she’s signed a deal with Us channel Showtime to direct and executive produce and direct mob drama project Angie’s Body. With a script from Heroes / Touch veteran Rob Fresco, the series focuses on a woman who is the head of an organized crime outfit. She's the female equivalent of Tony Soprano, who deals with the various family (and Family) issues that crop up in her line of work. It’s not Foster’s first telly producing credit, nor her first time with the channel, as she worked on 1998 TV movie The Baby Dance. For this one, she apparently intends to stay behind the camera rather than taking what sounds like a solid leading lady role.Currently, it’s all just at...

It looks like Jodie Foster wasn't kidding when she said she was looking at cable TV. According to Deadline, Foster will direct and produce a mob drama for Showtime.
The project, "Angie's Body," will be written by Rob Fresco and follows a woman who runs her family's crime syndicate. Foster and Fresco will executive produce the project.
"I think I may spend some time on cable," Foster told the Associated Press in July.
Foster's previous TV producer credit is on "The Baby Dance," a TV movie. The veteran actress, who has numerous small screen acting credits, also directed an episode of "Tales from the Darkside."
Foster said cable is a good place for her craft. "What I do are personal stories and, in some ways, usually involve family and they have equal amounts of comedy and drama, sometimes an absurdist twist, and they're very verbal," she told the AP. "And...
