- The Blu-ray release adds some extra music cues to the score. For example, when Donkey sings "You Gotta Have Friends" to Shrek, an instrumental that wasn't there before is heard in the background.
- The Freeform print and the Ultra HD Blu-ray release has the 2013 Universal Pictures logo before the film.
- On Nickelodeon's airings of the film, all instances of ass/jackass are replaced with "Donkey!".
- Original theatrical prints of the film contains a notice from THX's Theater Alignment Program and the MPAA rating card at the end after the DreamWorks logo. This was later cut in home media releases.
- Scenes storyboarded but not filmed (available as "Deleted Scenes" on the DVD): "Fiona Gets Them Lost" where Fiona causes a cave-in when she finds out Shrek is only acting on Farquaad's behalf. They go through tunnels and briefly glimpse various Disneyland characters. "The Deal": Farquaad makes the bargain with Shrek whereby Shrek will rescue Princess Fiona in exchange for the deed to the swamp "Fiona's Backstory": Fiona escapes her prison and meets Bib Fortuna, who offers her a choice of potions; one to give her beauty or one to give her happy-ever-after. She chooses beauty thinking this will lead to happiness (see also trivia).
- Mike Myers originally recorded Shrek's lines without a Scottish accent, and only later convinced the producers to let him go back and re-recorded the character with the accent. Examples of his original, unaccented dialogue can be heard during the technical goofs feature on the DVD.
- In the version showed in Cinecanal Latina, there are no actors names at the beginning. The start of the movie is the same but in the sequences where the names are displayed, they are not. You just see the water, or the worms, etc.
