"Shounen Keniya", also called "Kenya Boy", is an 1984 Adventure-Anime directed by Tetsuo Imazawa and Nobuhiko Ôbayashi, and produced by Toei Animation.

Basic plot: Set in 1941, an young boy named Wataru Murakami goes to Kenya together with his father Daisuke. While in Kenya, they barely manage to escape from a couple of British soldiers, but end up getting separated from each other due to getting attacked by a rhino.

During his desperate search for his father, Wataru saves an old man from dying by sickness. The old man reveals himself as Zega, the chief of Masai Tribe. And together they sets out to find Wataru's missing father, even though they have to struggle through whatever danger they encounter, as well as meeting up with a pretty girl named Kate who claims to be a goddess. But the question is, will Wataru and his father ever get to see each other again...?

Having recently watched this anime feature not many minutes ago, I have to say: This film is just as amazing as it can get. The animation, and how Kenya is portrayed is wonderful. And throughout, this anime movie is pretty action-packed as it shows us various attacks performed by various animals and different violent tribes.

Also great with this movie is the fact this film seems to give us some lessons about having courage to overcome whatever wilderness dangers which are to be encountered. It even gives us, the audience, hope for Wataru, Zega, Kate and Daisuke's survival. Even I was hoping for said characters' survival.

Just to bad this film just don't seem to even exist in Norway. But still, I recommend this film to anyone who likes to watch adventure/action-packed animated movies in general. My overall rating: Simply a good 9/10.

I only had some anime recorded on a videotapes and watched it over and over again it was one of my favourites.

I lived in Soviet union back then and this short collection of anime moves must have been smuggled in and then we had it playing over and over again in daycare after primary school.

After i grew up I forgot the name and couldn't find it until someone helped me with the title some 35 year later .. need to watch again but i loved the movie so much I'm sure i will enjoy.

It's a beautifully made anime where a boy is having series of crazy adventures in the African jungle. Some are scary and dark. He meets new friends and guides and of course love. They together fight and travel and have fun.

I don't want to spoil the story. I think it is worth seeing.

Kenya Boy is weird...even for Ôbayashi - and that's okay. This movie will take you for a wild ride. I don't want to say much about the plot or story, that would ruin the fun - plus, I honestly still do not exactly understand what was going on about 3/4ths the way through.
