love, love, love (don't worry you'll get the reference when you see the film)

Uranis pictures is going out of business and is in dire need of a hit, so they come up with an idea to make a combination of Jaws and Deep Throat called Deep Jaws, a film about insastable mermaids. That's it plot-wise, the humor is all right, but there's only so many jokes one can listen to playing on the name of the studio and Richard Nation's character of Junior is particularly unbearable. All the girls in the film are hot enough, save for one that seems to have abnormal nipples. Also while it's always cool to see the late great B-movie mainstay Geore 'buck' Flowers, he doesn't really have anything to do in this film.

Something Weird DVD Extras: 15 minute Gallery of Exploitation art with accompanying music; Trailers for "the All-American Girl", "Teaser", "the Damish Connection", "Terror at orgy Castle", & "Evil Come, Evil go"; and Theatrical trailers for this film and "The Dicktator" (which is also on the DVD)

Eye Candy: Every female in this movie bares it all, with the exception of Roxanne Brewer, 'lady diana', and Candy Samples who only get topless (but with as much top heavy talent as those girls possess it's still ALL good)

Only Could Have Been Made in the 70's

Ah! The 1970's when disaster films and sex films were hot, and independent directors and producers made whatever they felt like. Deep Jaws is a softcore sex film about a movie company gone bankrupt that jumps(no pun intended) on the bandwagon and makes pornography in order to stay afloat. They decide to make a film about "hungry" mermaids, thus combining the two genres in one film. You basically get what you would expect in a film like this: lots of sexual situations, plenty of nude women, adolescent, vulgar humour, weird folks, and even foul language. The girls are very attractive and their actions are photographed well. The acting is typically abysmal. The humour is very, very dated and the film contains all kinds of references to things going on at that time like the release of Jaws and movies like Deep Throat(hence the name Deep Jaws...get it?..Boy, someone must have worked overtime for that gem of an idea!). The direction, sets, costumes, etc... are all very low budget and the soundtrack is definitely from that era. Candy Samples plays the wife of the owner of the studio, and my biggest objection is we see all too little of her and her assets and talents. I cannot recommend the film for more than anything other than voyueristic curiosity.

Woof!

Here's another Something Weird Video double feature release complete with lots of trailers (often times the best part of the disc). This film is the first of the double feature followed by THE DICKTATOR.

What a snoozer. Yeah, it's got Candy Samples (barely) and Kitten Natividad (both known for their very nice jungle drums) but, for me, that's about the only thing I can see as an asset. There is one performance that stood out above all others and that is from George "Buck" Flower. He's HYSTERICAL and is worth watching just for him.

I've rated this a 3, one for each of the afore-mentioned actors. If you like soft-core, lame, over-the-top comedies that aren't funny and bad acting that isn't funny, with lots of nudity (for what it's worth the women are very attractive (surprisingly) and the guys are not (one is so dark and hairy it looks as if he's wearing a body sweater)) and you have a penchant for staring at the TV for no apparent reason then this movie is a must-see. If not, then move along 'cause there's nothing to see here.

Soft core sex film within a film about nympho mermaids.
Richard-Nathan30 June 2001
Nearly bankrupt studio tries to get on its feet by making an exploitation film about nympho mermaids (shot in a swimming pool). A terrible film. When it was made, it was definitely soft core. Was there a hard core version with explicit footage inserted?

how not to make a sex film?

Roxanne Brewer and Candy Samples in the same film! I must be dreaming or in Heaven! That said, neither Roxanne or Candy really have a lot of screen time here which is unfortunate.

For Roxy fans, you can see her to much better advantage in FEMALE CHAUVINISTS. Candy Samples, on the other hand, has made so many films, it is difficult to decide just which one is her best one (the one where she actually stars in it and has the most screen time).

Again most of the men in the film leave a lot to be desired in the looks department. The best looking one of the bunch is Harry Reems from DEEP THROAT fame. That should tell you something right there.
