Funny and weird
CharlesD-229 May 1999
This is a funny and rather odd film with many 70s pop culture parodies. The acting is bad, the plot is typical, the theme is a parody of "Staying Alive". Starring Carol Conners the high-voiced innocent bimbo, this is dramatic cautionary tale of those seeking their fortune in Hollywood. Puts Ghandi to shame.

Gong and Dong
Prismark1011 February 2017
Carol Connors returns as the ditsy, goofy blond with two big assets walking down the Hollywood walk of fame while the soundtrack rips off the Bee Gees 'Stayin Alive.'

Written and directed by Gail Palmer, one of the few female directors working in the porn business in the 1970s and 80s it is a fluffy sex comedy that parodies those young vacuous women who come to Hollywood seeking fame and fortune.

On the corner of Hollywood and Vine she meets sleazy Johnny Dooropener (John Leslie) who promises to make her a star and then promptly hypnotises her to suck him off by making her think she is licking ice cream.

Dooropener get Candy a gig as a singing act in The Dong Show hosted by Chuck Bareass where we also get a glimpse of the ping pong ball routine from another contestant (Wendy O. Williams.) Candy wins the show and Bareass gives her his prize from behind the curtain.

Dooropener keeps her money and continues to open doors such as a encounter with talk show host Johnny Farson and then a private audition with a Hollywood producer and all the time Candy always gives willingly as she is routinely told of traditional ways of greeting each other in Hollywood.

It all ends with a big orgy popular in sex films of the period, featuring a Sly Stallone and Farrah Fawcett lookalike and Dooropener gets his comeuppance for being a sleazeball and Candy realises she is not up to the cut and thrust of Hollywood.

John Leslie who with Jamie Gillies was one of the stronger actors in the golden age of porn is just having a great time as Dooropener by showing off his acting and comedy skills. Connors is adorable and bubbly as Candy and although it is hard core porn it has a silliness with its comedic parody of the entertainment business.

good humoured enough
christopher-underwood11 January 2007
The whole thrust, as it were, of this is not really to my liking. Carol Connors has to play the dumb, blonde and innocent hopeful whilst various ragamuffins take advantage as she thinks she becomes a star. It is good humoured enough and if most of the sex is with wide eyes, pigtails and, 'Will this really help me become a star?' type dialogue it's hard to take violently against it. What saves the film entirely, however, is a rather spunky orgy at the end. Difficult things at the best of times this is really rather well done with none of the preceding 50 minutes or so faux innocence, this is fully bloodied and revels in the open enthusiasm of the participants.

Candy Does Hollywood With Minimal Performance Quality
CharlesPeterWatson7 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Upon arriving in Hollywood, Candy has somehow set her sights on fame while her new soon-to-be manager Johnny Dooropener scopes her out. Dooropener's mix of hypnotism and tonsil hockey on Candy has convinced her she can sing. Candy, in turn, is arranged a scheduled performance showing her new singing skills and sensuality to "The Dong Show" television audience. Host Chuck Bareass returns a favor backstage to the winner, showing her the audience reaction while giving his to her behind the curtain. Johnny Farson's show is the next visit and she holds up Johnny backstage.

The rest of the movie is set to make out Candy's fame and personality a green light to bedding her at her most naive moments. The filmmakers wanted to use the ditsy blond motif, despite Connors not being a real blond or ditsy. Dooropener's career get ruined by the end when Candy decides to go to Washington D.C. and another sequel.

I want Candy!
Pope-113 June 1999
"Candy Goes to Hollywood" is a fun movie about Hollywood hopeful Candy Christian who gets caught in the tangled web of Hollywood. Candy appears on "The Dong Show" and even scores a spot "The Last Night Show" with Johnny Farson. This movie is as funny as it is stimulating, and damn this is stimulating. A fun movie, Carol Connors is great, highly recommended.

A XXX Classic!
tiekbane2 December 2002
Never mind the Gong Show parodies (which is hilarious and separates this porno from most pornos). This skin flick is notable for 2 reasons: Carol Connors was actually on the Gong show on TV (she couldn't act on TV and she certainly can't act in adult movies, but at least she didn't have to act in adult movies), and The Plasmatics's Wendy O'Williams plays a contestant on the 'Dong Show.' I won't spoil the scene but I will say she is very talented with ping pong balls.

Get this classic XXX movie at any cost.

Funny sequel to the enjoyable original
Woodyanders18 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Busty bubblehead Candy Christian (an endearingly ditsy portrayal by buxom blonde bombshell Carol Connors) goes to Hollywood seeking fame and fortune. Libidinous low-rent agent Johnny Dooropener (robustly played to the sleazy hilt by John Leslie) helps Candy achieve her goal by getting her a spot on the popular TV series "The Dong Show." Writer/director Gail Palmer relates the entertainingly inane story at a speedy pace, maintains an engaging good-natured screwball tone throughout, and elicits lots of laughs from the amusing sense of cheerfully lowbrow humor. Connors's winning bubbly persona and stupendously voluptuous body supply a wealth of bounce in more ways than one. Moreover, it's acted with zest by an enthusiastic cast, with especially lively contributions from Howie Gordon as energetic game show host Chuck Bareass, Turk Lyon as the vain Samuel Goldicker, Gary Grime as the smarmy Johnny Farson, Phaery Burd as the raucous J.P. Organ, and Rhonda Jo Petty as major starlet Sarah Dawcett. Tasty brunette and former Miss Nude World Shadow Nova struts her sizzling stuff as a stripper. Best of all, legendary punk rocker Wendy Williams does a spectacular routine in which she shoots Ping-Pong balls out of her vagina (!). The climactic orgy seriously smokes. Leo Del's funky-throbbing score and the "Stayin' Alive" sound alike theme song both hit the get-down groovy spot. Bob Lazar's bright cinematography provides an attractive sparkling look. A real hoot.

good.
robertofuiano30 November 2009
Good movie, very 80s, you can not expect much from a film like this,, Sirpa Lane is an actress of erotic films, a nice body but nothing exceptional savant to a pornographic actress from the body disappears, but the '70s were characterized a small breasts and a simple eroticism. Not demand a lot from these films are light years away from the movies today, the world has changed incredibly. The plot is simple and the actors not extraordinary. And the brunette actress has a single body, has one breast slightly bigger. Be satisfied. Papaya also is not great but at least these films have a certain charm ... Download them again but then again who knows what you pretend not to them.

Now for part 2
mmcgee28211 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In this sequel she now is taking the bus to go to Hollywood for her fame and fortune. This me means it was shot in L. A. and Gail had to be careful where she was shooting since it was illegal at the time. I remember seeing it in the censored version at the Capri. Later a horrible uncut print. Fortunately , Vinegar Syndrome print is restored and in it's widescreen and sharper on Blu- Ray. Once again Candy is being taken advantage of . When John Leslie spots her and makes a false promises to make her a star. He sends her to the take off of the gong show where you see Wendy O Williams showing her skills with Tennis balls. Richard Pacheco portrays Chuck Barry take off. Where Carrol sings poorly ,but, never less wins ,when he takes advantage of her. It looks like they might of used a stunt ,instead of Pacheco's . Then she is taken advantage from the take off of the Carson show played by Gary Grime. Of all the sex scenes Turk Lyon playing a movie star , Samuel Goldicker , tricking Candy under the disguise of using Marlyn Monroe script ,later Doris Day, "Something got to give". Sharon Cain shows up as one of the starlets who is being taken advantage of by John Leslie. By the time the Hollywood party starts all the starlets, who were taken advantage of ,beat Leslie up then it's Candy goes to Washington DC .You then got Gail Palmer anounceing her new movies. Now back to part one ," The erotic adventures of Candy. 09/ 10 / 19
