Used car fraud
chrisannjordan22 March 2022
I recently watched a episode where the plaintiff purchased a used car as is without test driving the vehicle. While that was a faulty decision, the plaintiff relied on the defendants honor and trustworthiness in liue of that action to make his decision. As such he bought the car which turned out to have a blown head gasket. This was a overtly fraudulent action on the defendants part which surely should have voided the transaction. I do not understand why this was not obvious to the judge, clearly obvious. I had a car that my daughter drove hot and the first thing that occurrs to every vehicle that is driven hot is the head gaskets crack or warp. The only difference in vehicles is how long it may take to do this damage. Some vehicles it may occur in 5 seconds of being hot, others may take 20 seconds but all vehicles will be damaged. This is what happened to the car in question and the seller most definitely tried to hide it. As for the mechanic assessment of this vehicle, a mechanic looks for signs of evidence of head gasket damage because a engine would need to be torn open to definately state the obvious. That's standard procedure in this field as the cost to tear engine open outways the results that are already clear. I am not a mechanic but I've had many used cars and have gained a great deal of knowledge. You really incorrectly judged this case and in the future you should not close your ears to the obvious.

Used to be great...
shannon_heard16 May 2022
I understand why they went online during the pandemic. That is basically over and most other shows have gone back to a regular format.

Also, the segments with her husband are super cringey. Did anyone ever ask for this?!

Marilyn Milian rocks!
chrbubb29 May 2004
Judge Judy used to be my favorite television judge, but that position has now been usurped by the very honorable - and very beautiful - Marilyn Milian. Pooh-pooh to you, pooh24, I don't know which court show you're watching, but I think Judge Milian is the exact opposite of what you make her out to be. Not only is she easily the most eye-friendly and photogenic judge on TV, she's also the most fair. She can be funny, wise and sarcastic when she wants to be, but she is also caring and compassionate toward her litigants. Unlike Judge Judy, she won't fly off the handle at someone who doesn't deserve it. When she does go a little ballistic, it's only because the litigant she's yelling at is acting like a jerk. And she sure is fun to watch when she does go ballistic - especially when the throws in some of the trademark Spanish phrases she's become known for. It's very nice to see a Hispanic television personality who isn't a Speedy Gonzales-esque stereotype or caricature and who is very proud of her heritage. Also, Judge Milian is not sexist in her judgments, at least not as sexist as Judge Judy can be. If the plantiff is a female and is obviously behaving like a jerk or taking advantage of the defendant (for example, a woman I saw the other day who sued her former friend, who had bestowed upon her all kinds of gifts, including a nose job, and was suing him for not paying for her trip to Texas - her case was dismissed, incidentally), she will tear into her as well as she would a male plaintiff. On top of it all, she's not as cold and businesslike as Judge Judy can be - she'll ham it up with the litigants sometimes, and once when disco singer Carol Douglas was on the show as a plaintiff, the judge had her sing a little of her biggest hit, "Doctor's Orders." Overall, she has made this a very fun show to watch. I'd bring a case before Judge Milian before I'd bring it in front of any other judge on TV. Ten out of ten stars!

Clarifying other comments
ktsfamily8 May 2007
The Peoples Court is definitely the best of the TV court shows. Just to clarify a point, the Peoples Court started in 1981 with Judge Joseph Wapner, not with Ed Koch. The reason why this show is the best, is because this show is mostly about the law, not the theatrics of the Judge. In most of the other TV courtroom shows, the judge humiliates the litigants and the decisions are not based on law but based on the entertainment value of the decision. Not only is Marilyn Milian fair, but she treats the litigants with respect. She also explains in full detail why the judgement is made and also explains what type of paperwork and actions should have taken place and accompanied them. She will at times show her wit with the litigants, but without humiliating them.

A bit annoying
aikidoronin-3962426 July 2017
The format has been well established but judge Milan's sometimes caustic approach can ruin it. First annoying fact: The website spins it as; "she's Confident, sassy and empathetic". What actually happens on each show is that she begins each case in a fairly calm manner but often she regresses into actually yelling at the litigants. I realize that there are some really exasperating transactions going on but she is supposed to at least try deciding cases with a clear, calm mind. Secondly she talks over people almost constantly. She will ask a question then after a few seconds will interrupt. Also she sometimes interjects other questions before the first answer is even said. She does most of the talking even though there are two parties in front of her giving testimony. Yelling and talking over the litigants shows a degree of patronizing the litigants.

Road Rage X-Cop vs. Biker
rarintogo2 August 2022
It was a road rage case with a biker(plaintiff) vs. X-cop(defendant). Now during the cross exam by the ever lovely Judge Milian, she was able to see thru the defendants lies as to how many times he punched the biker according to the plaintiffs injuries. The plaintiff summed it up so succinctly. He said in these times of social strife where the police need our public support, it will never happen when an x-cop blatantly lies in a court of law. Judge found in favor of biker for 3K. Thanks for many years of righteous justice Judge Miliani.

Too much
boobren7 February 2018
I Love this show, but when do we draw the line for ratings, puffed up. She talks too fast and I feel bad for older persons. She starts off all smiley and nice, then yells at them. When asked a question she rarely lets them answer it before hitting them with either another question or a comment. I know they have talk to the audience, but even the expression on their faces say a lot. These people really must want a free trip bad or that little bit of money. America there's got to be a better way, bring back, respect, honor and just simply, I treat you the way I want to be treated. I wouldn't with a conscious tell my kids, its just TV, because someone is taking it to heart no matter what they agreed to.

Curt, Curt, Curt...
divamagenta28 January 2009
I enjoy People's Court, although I prefer Judge Judy's no-nonsense approach to the foolishness of so many of the litigants.

So glad to see others commenting on Curt's behavior. I haven't really noticed the touching, but his ridiculous smart-alecky comments, akin to the old no-win question "So, have you stopped beating your wife?," are just childish and way beyond irritating. He's practically making faces and saying "I know you are but what am I?" like an eight-year old on the playground. Harvey's comments, while silly at times, at least have some measure of thought and truth behind them.

It's absolutely jarring to go from Judge Milian's classy, professional courtroom session to the buffoonish antics out in the hallway. It cheapens the whole show, and he adds nothing at all to it. The show should follow the example of Judge Judy and Divorce Court - let the people make their own comments afterward. As we see every day, they make better fools out of themselves just by opening their mouths than Curt's curt comments ever could. The only one he makes look bad is himself.

THE NEW FORMAT IS ALMOST UNWATCHABLE
rodriguez-2656829 September 2020
Don't know who made the decision to change the show so drastically, but its almost unwatchable. Judge Judy and The People's Court are in the same timeslot in Phoenix, and I've almost always chosen to watch People's Court, but have now started watching Judy, mostly because of the way the show has changed. Absolutely no reason to have the litigants and Millian not in the court room. And her talking with her husband about the case adds absolutely nothing to the show, and actually takes away a case from t bgg e program. Looks like she just figured out a way to get her husband an extra paycheck. Judge Judy is in the courtroom with the litigants, and without an audience, and seems to be working without a hitch. GO BACK TO BASICS!!! I really prefer People's Court over Judge Judy, but NOT in its current presentation.

Marilyn is the Best
goats114 May 2001
Of all the judge shows this one is the best going today. Judge Marilyn really adds drama and a quick pace to the show. She is a lot more likable than Judge Judy. She is also quite a looker in my opinion. She is much more self assured of herself, and doesnt have the aura of false celebrity.

Stop berating the Judge
emlivh19 October 2022
For those who insist on berating the Judge yes, she does have a clue and knows her geography. Just because things are done doesn't necessarily mean that it's the law. . She studies the law in the state that the litigants come from to be accurate. She sometimes has to be curt with litigants because they are disrespectful. I know they wouldn't be that way in a regular courtroom because they would be charged with contempt. People will not always agree but then again people don't always know the laws just because you have always done it doesn't make it right in the eyes of the law. For example speeding.

I don't care about her and her husbands personal life.
paulvs8 September 2021
Why, why, why would they add the snipits of the judge and her husband talking about themselves? At first they were commenting on the case and it was mildly interesting but now they have sunken to talking about who picks out Johns clothes and what they do on "date night". Who cares? This is a court show, people watch it for the real court cases. I have no idea why they thought this was a good idea.

Funniest show on TV. You can't write this stuff. Just saw the one about the lady who sue'd her neighbor for $2000.00 for not returning her $3.99 copy of "Essence" Magazine! What!!!! Then she called child protective servicing on the woman 2 days before court because she as crying too much. It was also the first time I'd ever scene Judge Millian award damages for defamation.

Judge Millian called her crazy to her face. Sad thing was the woman admitted suffering from a Bipolar disorder.

Still funny show though.

With all of the other scripted and unscripted garbage, this at least allows you to learn something about the law AND human nature.

I used to admire her style but producers must have told her to add some flavor. Sh is so obnoxious!!? She talks over people, yells disrespectfully and in most cases the participants never get to plead or defend her court. Please stop judge it's not a good look

The CASE is the only part worth watching!
ettal-5421829 July 2017
I truly love this court show. I believe the judge is the best of all of the court TV shows. I don't always agree with her decisions, but I have no knowledge of the law, so my opinion of her decisions is unnecessary. THE MAIN PROBLEM with the show is the reason I have to DVR it before watching. I cannot stand the commentary with the people "on the street". It it never intelligent or funny. It is a complete waste of the viewers' time. A second problem is the foolish interviews in the hall after the decision. They are just silly. I fast forward through both of those annoyances ( and the ads, of course). Judge Milian is a wonderful, genuine person.

Best Court Show on T.V.
Movie-Guru19 June 2002
I think this is the best court show on television. Judge Jerry Sheindlin was a good judge, but for some reason I seem to enjoy Judge Milian more (I guess it's because she is a woman, though I hope that doesn't make me sexist). Judge Judy is too annoying and rants off too much, so if you want to see a GOOD female judge, watch The People's Court.

Needs A Far Better Judge
luft-8548112 June 2020
I do watch the show but I am getting to the point where I think I might have to stop. I just get so aggravated with Judge Milan. She never completes a sentence. She constantly interrupts the litigants when they are trying to explain their complaint. And if she asks a question she interrupts and then gets upset if they don't answer her. I think she's either too full of herself or she's just very rude and impatient.

Horrible Judge
lil_cookie87787 June 2018
Judge Milian is impatient, rude, and unfair. She is always interrupting the litigants which isn't very professional and not very productive towards establishing facts. She yells and screams all the time and even resorts to name calling. She also seems sexist at times. She holds men and woman to different standards. For example... and older woman in her courtroom suing a younger boyfriend she's like, "you go girl". And older man in court with a younger woman and he's vilified. A man calls her ma'am, "don't call me ma'am!" A man calls her sweetie (which is wrong), " don't call me sweetie!" Then the next show, she'll call someone sweetie, or baby, or honey. I even remember once a young man, after being interrupted by her several times, began a sentence with "with all due respect your honor" and she just about lost it! She tried to suggest that started of a sentence with that phrase indicates you're attempting to deceive or disrespect her!?!? Additionally, often when I watch the show, you already know who's gonna win in the first few minutes of the testimony. Her body language says it all. The cases are interesting and that's why I watch. NOT because of Judge Milian.

I Love Judge Marilyn Milian!
rickmcq4 September 2009
She's cute, she's funny, she's sassy, and she's getting better every day! She has 1000 expressions and they're all cute. Scripted TV cannot beat her natural talent. I love it when she gets mad. Just let it all out and be yourself, Marilyn!

I will agree that sometimes she doesn't hear the arguments and sometimes she seems to make judgments based on her own prejudices. But ... it's small claims court, so what can you do? She's not perfect, but she's great.

I learned a lot about basic law from watching Joseph Wapner back in the 80's. Get it in writing. Preponderance of evidence. Making you whole. Who's the liar? Get three bids. Dogs must be leashed. Etc. etc. etc.

Marilyn is just as informative as Joe and a LOT hotter!

I would love to see a "Best of People's Court". It would rock! I'm compiling a few myself. If you ever saw the case with Alana Sheridan trying to date the wanna-be wise guy -- it was a scream!!! Or the guy who wanted his garage demo'd, so he hired the job to a guy who sold it to get rid of it. Or the woman who set her apartment on fire, then sued her landlord. Fantastic!

I wish the show would come back to southern California. New York people are interesting but I want to see MY PEEPS in court again!

Homeless Woman, 2/8/2017
deborahevans-008698 February 2017
How is it that the homeless woman is suing for the cost of a car that she claims couldn't pass inspection ends up loosing the case, but the defendant gets to keep the money & the car ? Shouldn't the homeless woman get the car back ? At the end the defendant said she gave the car to her son. I thought the defendant couldn't get the car & the money. The state the homeless woman lived in allows a person to get their money back if the car does not pass inspection. The woman didn't have an inspection report. Couldn't Judge Million have dismissed the case without prejudice to give her a chance to get the inspection report. I just don't see how the defendant can keep the money & the car. I love this show. But this is the first time I really didn't agree. I thought you couldn't end up better than you started.

Enjoyable program.
sonya9002814 July 2011
This show has it all, for a court TV show. It has audience participation, interesting cases, and Judge Marylin Milian, who's gorgeous, but carries a big Gavel. This show gets my vote. For those of us who are stuck at home on week-days, watching The People's Court, is an enjoyable wait to be entertained.

It's also goo, because Harvey Lrevin, the guy who interviews people outside the courtroom, gives legal advice regarding the court cases. Judge Milian is usually pleasant and even-tempered. But she does go off once in a while, when she's particularly exasperated with a litigant. This court TV show, is definitely wroth your while.
