Tio Paloma : Alfredo Mayo, and his son Tono : Manuel Tejada live and work at the Albufera by fishing . Toni has a child Tonet who befriends a beautiful little girl called Neleta : Nuria Gallardo , once grown-up Tonet : Luis Suarez, is a rebel young who doesn't want to work . Tonet lives an intense romance with Neleta : Victoria Vera whom he has known from infancy , but then he will be forced to abandon the Valencian Albufera to be enlisted in the Independence war in Cuba . Upon the return of the war , Neleta to avoid her poorness , looks for other suitors, and eventually , she meets a rich owner .
