  • This movie came out months after Norm MacDonald was fired from _"NBC's Saturday Night" (1975)_. When it was out in theaters, none of the shows on NBC were allowed to advertise it.

  • Chris Farley's last film

  • This is Artie Lange's first appearance in a film but not his first time filming one. Lange had a role in 'Jerry Maguire' but his scenes were edited out.

  • In the scene where Mitch and Sam are getting berated by Mr. Hamilton, Don Rickles couldn't remember his lines so he started ad-libbing insults. At one point, Don Rickles started insulting Norm McDonald and not his Mitch Weaver character. This, of course, didn't make it into the film but the "baby gorilla" line directed towards Artie Lange was used.

  • The fitness show Pops was watching on TV was ":20 Minute Workout" (1982).

  • 'Howard Stern' was offered a cameo appearance as Satan but turned it down. Adam Sandler ended up with the role.

  • On co-star Artie Lange's stand-up comedy DVD, "It's The Whiskey Talkin'," an audience member asks him to sign his copy of Dirty Work, he does so and then gives the fan ten dollars, saying "you don't see Ben Affleck doing that for 'Gigli'!" Lange then mentions that the review in his home town paper, The Star Ledger, said that he "had all the charm of a date rapist," to which MacDonald replied (in a sincere attempt to cheer him up) "that's a lot better than saying you look like a regular rapist!"
