No budget at all
Leofwine_draca20 January 2022
A really low budget science fiction thriller, seemingly a riff on the fun Christopher Lambert B-movie FORTRESS. This time we get Gary Daniels sent to a space prison for a crime he didn't commit before vowing to escape. Very dark, very ordinary and middling, with ham acting from the supporting players and a dearth of action, so little to recommend it. Meg Foster and Jeffrey Combs are entirely wasted in tiny roles.

NOT A BAD LITTLE LOW BUDGET SCI-FI FILM
SILVERBEUWULF11 December 2001
The special effects when they come are handled well enough when they finaly come. The acting is very poor and in places makes you cringe. The idea is kinda like Demolition Man crossed with Blade Runner. Its not the worst sci-fi low budget movie out there, could have been much better if handled with a bit of care.Id give it 5/10.

the most painful movie I have ever seen - spoiler included
terevaune1 September 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I want you to imagine for a moment. Imagine you are coming home from an evening out on the town with a friend, after having a few drinks together. As you're coming around the corner, You see a person carrying a child and walking a dog. You hit the brakes and try to swerve the car, but you end up hitting him/her anyway, then going off the road and ramming a telephone pole. You wake up hours later where you learn that the person was your spouse and the child was your child, and the dog was your dog. Then you learn that not only did your best friend go through the windshield and die, but he had advanced AIDS and since he bled all over you, now you do too. And to top it all off, they've had to amputate both your arms. Then a Man walks up to you and says "I can make it all better, I'll let you have another chance. I'll give you back your family, your dog, your friend, your car. I'll take away the memory of this evening, and the disease as well. I'll even cure your friend. And All you have to do for me is watch Spoiler." It's not worth it. Say no and walk away.

Spoiler is hands down the worst movie I have ever seen. I've sat through Manos, The hands of Fate, I've sat through Monster a Go Go, I've watched Red zone Cuba twice, I've seen every move Steven Seagal has ever made. I saw street fighter, Armageddon, Clockstoppers, the Core and the Day after Tomorrow in theaters and spoiler is still the only movie I've actually almost passed out from watching. It's also a landmark movie in it's use of time compression technology, as it makes each minute feel like you've just watched between 6 minutes and 4 months of nothing happening. My Friend and I Actually looked at each other after it was over and said that it was the longest 7 hours of our lives. Then we looked at a clock and realized it had only been 90 minutes. (Then we promptly pulled the tape out of the cassette, snipped it in a few places and threw it into a dumpster off a fifth story balcony).

Spoiler___________________________________________

In the end, your expecting them to build up something climactic, and the surprise is that nothing happens and the movie ends, and no one cares. The best part of this movie is when they drag the main character in and beat him with clubs. If only they would do that to the director too.

Strange film
alexmatt-0236718 January 2023
The main character, choices are just plain stupid. He makes so many mistakes not wanting the shot after his second awakening is probably so stupid, he'd rather be in pain . Not much of a back story, he seems to be like being incarcerated. At least he gets to show off his muscles. Can't really think how to fill 500 words on this review, accept to say, you'll never get back the 1 and half hours you've lost watching this movie. One of those films that you start to watch, and watch to the end, as you can't believe what your seeing. Finally as with the film, I've managed to ramble on for 500 words, and bored you must be.

Sh*-Fi
jaffacountess9 April 2003
The film chooses to be sci-fi and then it chooses to have melodrama as well? Doesn't work when there is little attention to acting, and the script is poor. There is one scene in particular that goes on too long and you just can't take it seriously, but let's have your viewing ruin it for you!

Reach out for a shiny new tomorrow!

Warning: Spoilers
Gary Daniels stars as a spoiler, an escaped convict in a prison system that freezes it's criminals for years on end while bounty hunters and police are always two inches behind our wrongfully accused hero. Gary Daniels is rather impressive and the movie far exceeds the expectations you have of it. One of the main reasons Spoiler works so well is that it relies more on the conflict between Daniels' personal tragedy instead of action. The action sequences (Especially the one on one between G.Daniels and Brian Genesse) are poorly staged but the story holds so much interest and the special effects are good (Especially considering the budget) that one is more inclined to go with the flow of the film and enjoy the movie's melodrama as Gary Daniels searches for his daughter. Indeed the movie ends on a depressing note and it becomes one of the few B.movies that actually leave an effect on you. Although the movie should not be taken seriously on its politics, it is admirable that the movie's real entertainment comes from the stylish directing and good acting from the cast.

One of the best movies I've seen!

Warning: Spoilers
It's a pretty sad to see a man wasting all those years and almost never able to see his daughter. But at least he gets to see her, even if she was old enough to be his mother. In a way the tagline of Mason trying to see his daughter before it was to late was good.

Nice Change For Daniels.
mvilla12 February 2001
Although made on a low budget, this movie manages to have some good effects and suspenseful escape scenes. Daniels gets few chances to show off his awesome fighting skills, instead focusing on his performance. He gives a excellent performance, proving he can do more than fight. You actually feel sorry for Roger Mason and understand why he makes the choices he does. 6 out of 10.

Made me cry.

Warning: Spoilers
Great movie, one of the few I bought to keep at home, shouldn't be underestimated just because it's a B-movie.

It has enough action and sci-fi to satisfy most viewers, but the plot thickens as we see the revolving drama around Roger Mason's successive arrests, and witnessing his family dying as he stays young preserved in the cryogenic prison. It purely portraits the despair of a family man, for whom life is nothing without his wife and daughter, and in the end is "saved" by them, who call him to paradise as he is gunned down by the police.

Gary Daniels portrayed the character's suffering and despair perfectly, 5 star to his performance.

not worth a rental
Bob729 October 1999
Why didn't one of the 8 voters post a review so I could have avoided this one. Billed as a sci-fi flick about an escape artist, there's not much clever escape stuff, not much acting, not much plot, and lots of big holes in it anyway. It's over-rated at 5, I'd give it a 3, about equal to the bummer Solders of Fortune, maybe on a par with Counter Measures. I can't see it appealing to anyone, it's even short on action. -Bob

"You May Experience Some Slight Discomfort!"...
azathothpwiggins18 November 2021
In a dystopian future, a prisoner named Mason (Gary Daniels) keeps escaping and suffering the same consequences- being frozen in cryo-sleep for years at a time, then experiencing the loss, or advancing age of his loved ones.

SPOILER is a low-budget film with grand aspirations. It's also bleak and rather depressing. If you're in desperate need of a "feel good" movie, then this one might make you jump out of a high window!

It's always good to see Meg Foster and Jeffrey Combs. But they're sort of wasted here...
