So what can be said about Andy Dick that the paparazzi and nearly every Judge from West Virginia to Los Angeles hasn’t already said? He was once a rising star in the comedy world with lovably nerdy characters on hit TV series before his demons grabbed a hold of him and took him down an over 25 year path of endless headlines with his name often times preceding the word “arrested.” In those years, he has compiled more Mug Shots than Head Shots and went from Star on the Rise to Registered Sex Offender. Yeah, I don’t know how else to say this other than: Wtf Happened to Andy Dick?!
But as always we must begin at the beginning and the beginning began on his birthday, December 21, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating high school in the suburbs of Illinois, Andy would study at the famed Second City and...

The CW knows what’s up. It was just announced that the network has renewed seven of its current original scripted dramas for the upcoming 2022-23 season and let’s just say, it’s about damn time. We have been waiting for word on some of these shows for too long. Making the cut this go-’round are third seasons for Superman & Lois, Walker, and Kung Fu; a fourth season for the better-than-ever Nancy Drew; a fifth for All American; a seventh for the newly supernatural Riverdale; and Arrowverse-record ninth season for The Flash. These early renewals are in addition to the previously announced alternative series renewals of Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Masters of Illusion, and World’s Funniest Animals. The renewals for Drew and Walker also give us hope for their in-the-works spinoffs, Tom Swift and Walker: Independence. But where are Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow?...

Katherine McNamara is staying inside the CW family (if not the Arrowverse): The former Arrow cast member has signed on to star opposite Matt Barr in the spinoff pilot Walker: Independence, our sister site Deadline reports.
In the 1800s-set prequel, McNamara will play Abby Walker, presumably an ancestor of Jared Padalecki’s Cordell Walker from the flagship series. After her husband is murdered by a horse thief, Abby crosses paths with Barr’s Hoyt Rawlins and sets out for the town of Independence, Texas. “Our newfound family will struggle with the changing world around them, while becoming agents of...

Walker: Independence has found its lead.
Deadline reports that Matt Barr, who recurred on the CW drama as Hoyt Rawlins, is set to star in the pilot for the spinoff.
What's more, Barr is set to play 1800s Hoyt Rawlins in the series set over 200 years before the Jared Padalecki-fronted drama.
The 1800s iteration of Hoyt Rawlins is a cocky and brash gambler and outlaw who wants to lay low in Independence.
However, he finds himself getting close to straight-shooter Abby, whom he sees as “someone who might help him step away from the life of an outlaw, taking a side for change to fight for truth, justice and the Texan way.”
Walker: Independence was announced in December, and will follow Abby Walker, “an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West," according to the description from Deadline.

The spirit of the blockbuster has changed slowly but noticeably since Roland Emmerich’s filmography peaked with Independence Day in 1996. Fortunately for him, the typical structure and stylings that have become mainstream suit his tendencies perfectly. Unfortunately for us, they’re his worst tendencies. Ensembles from all over the country are still in, but for some reason traits of being distinctive and charismatic are out. City-destroying action is in; practical effects are out. One-liners are in; any morsel of earnestness or good humor is out. And so on.
It is in this rhythm that Moonfall becomes an exactly-what-you’d-expect, darkest timeline version of how an Emmerich blockbuster would play if stripped of any genuine effort or care and handed over to a studio algorithm. The genre itself is not void of quality (even in recent years), nor are his previous films, which is why watching Moonfall was often such a frustrating,...

Speaking to David Arnold may just be one of our very favourite interviews we’ve done this year (and our readers will know we do a fair few every week). The composer, who is premiering a ten-part orchestra based on the history of the Royal Albert Hall, is doing so to mark a landmark birthday on July 19th, as the Rah turns 150. His composition, A Circle of Sound, will be performing by a collective of talented young musicians and performers.
We were thrilled to be able to speak to Arnold to look ahead at what’s in store, but also to look back, over a remarkable career that has seen him compose familiar scores to the likes of Independence Day and 007, all the way to Little Britain and The InBetweeners – and in this lengthy, but fascinating chat, we discuss it all.

Summer of 1996. The booming ’90s cinematic box 0ffice was graced with the arrival of extraterrestrial beings in hovering unidentified flying objects that lingered over large cities across planet Earth. Independence Day took ideas of science fiction classics like War of the Worlds, Alien, and E.T. and combined them together for a popcorn movie that helped reimagine what stories of invaders from outer space could look and feel like. It’s a big, loud, fun science fiction spectacle.
Summer of 2020. Science fiction films have evolved. Stories of alien beings have morphed into manifestations of comic book characters or the reemergence of the Star Wars cinematic galaxy in popular culture. We’ve seen brand new films in the Alien and Predator movie galaxy, more Cloverfield alien monsters, and another journey 20 years after the original film release with Independence Day: Resurgence. Aliens are everywhere.

In the 1996 film Independence Day, President Thomas J. Whitmore, aka actor Bill Pullman, tried to rally his ragtag troops against an alien invasion.
On Independence Day 2020, he’s at it again. But this time, he’s hoping to inspire a battle against an invisible enemy by using masks instead of fighter planes.
Pullman appeared in an online Alamo Drafthouse PSA video asking people to please wear what he termed “freedom masks” when they’re out in public. The masks are seen by him as a way to limit new Covid-19 cases and get us all back to the freedom of going to bars, restaurants, schools, and, of course, movie theaters.
“I may not be your President anymore,” Pullman says. “But I gotta tell you, the 4th of July is still my favorite holiday and always will be. I’m going to be wearing my freedom mask every time I go into public places.

The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic that has left millions of people around the world essentially confined to their homes has left an awful lot of folks with more time on their hands than they’ve ever been used to. After the movie industry was forced into a virtual shutdown as theaters across the planet locked their doors, some studios were kind enough to accelerate the release of their latest films to home video, in an effort to appease those fans left devastated by the months-long delays faced by nearly every high-profile effort on the calendar.

"And when we asked our experienced team which celebrity has the 'best hair'—Howard Stern won the majority of the votes." So what Hollywood hunks lost the crown to Stern? Bradley Cooper came in at the...

There are many things we do on a regular basis that we don’t even give a second thought to; but if we did, we’d probably marvel at how objectively bizarre they are. These are traditions – customs, practices, manners – that have been passed down through generations and generations, to the point where nobody thinks to question why it is that pretty much everyone does these random, pointless things.
Like a historical game of telephone, these commonplace traditions made sense when they were first conceived, but, through the years, became more and more distorted until only a version of the action, without the actual significance, remained. Fast-forward to today, where we have a whole world of humans with some pretty strange habits and with little knowledge of the odd and borderline sinister ways that they came to be known to us. For those of us of a more inquisitive sort,...

Modern Family Season 4, Episode 18: “The Wow Factor”
Written by Ben Karlin
Directed by Steven Levitan
Airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC
This week we see the return of Modern Family and it’s back on top form. Leaving behind the new, experimental elements of episodes “Best Men” and “Bad Hair Day“, the Dunphy/Pritchett clan are back to their old, entertaining ways. Cam acts like a drama queen, Jay tries to get out of one of Manny’s artsy events, and Phil gets in over his head.
We return to the house-flipping plot this week as Cam and Claire play each other when working on the renovation. Cam “Trojan horses” Claire where he shows her an extravagant design option with a hefty sum so the compromise is the option he actually wants. Claire has her own game called ‘The Number Dump’ where she deliberately talks about percentages and...

Modern Family Season 4, Episode 17: “Best Men”
Written by Dan O’Shannon, Abraham Higginbotham and Bianca Douglas
Directed by Steven Levitan
Airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC
This week we see the return of Sal, played brilliantly by none other than Elizabeth Banks, and this time she’s getting married. Barging in late at night, Sal announces that she wants Mitch and Cam to be her “Best Men”. The last minute announcement leads to a last minute hen party where Sal temporarily gets cold feet and makes out with a bar tender. Sal is a great character and Elizabeth Banks does crazy well, but the outcome feels a little disappointing. The episode is set out in a way that makes the audience expect, or hope, that Cam and Mitch end up getting married but the writers are probably saving this for a season finale. Lily is hilarious as always.

Mitch and Cam's former Bff (the faboo Elizabeth Banks) announces she's getting married, and wants them to be her Best Men, but they ... question her commitment. Meanwhile, Gloria has trust issues with the new nanny, Claire has a rare bonding moment with Haley, and Phil helps Luke with a girl he likes
Favorite Moments:
Once again, the kids steal the show, especially Mvp Lily, who has the funniest bit of the episode in the closing minute. Sal: "Sorry you couldn't come to the wedding, but it was no kids." Lily: "That's okay, I'll go to your next one." Mitch: "She just means when she's not a kid anymore." Lily: "She knows what I mean." Sal: "I don't like you." Lily (whispering): "I'll get over it." Phil: "What are you hiding?" Luke: "Porn." Phil: "Don't lie to me!" Haley: "I agreed to dinner, not tickets to the Electric Light Dorkestra.

Elizabeth Banks is back and Gloria's showing off her rack! Sorry. I couldn't resist the rhyme. Yes, it's true, Banks returned this week as wild Sal on Modern Family.
Also in "Best Men," Jay wasn't pleased with how much Gloria is exposing of herself when breastfeeding Joe.
It's not so much a breastfeeding issue as it is the fact that Sofia Vergara is Hot and her breasts cause a bit of a commotion. As Jay said, Phil almost ate a candle when she whipped them out at dinner. While breastfeeding is a natural and healthy thing to do, I think Gloria might just be causing a lot of extra stares because, well...she's Gloria.
When Manny's art teacher calls Jay and Gloria into school to discuss Manny's latest fascination with drawing the female anatomy, it's brought to their attention that it might be time for Gloria to cover up. While I,...

It’s quite ironic that A Few Best Men is set at a wedding…because, quite frankly, I’ve been to funnier funerals.
Promoted as the “British version of The Hangover”, A Few Best Men follows the exploits of David Locking (Xavier Samuel), an orphaned individual who finds love on the remotest of islands courtesy of Australian native Mia Ramme (Laura Brent). After a week-long romance, David proposes to Mia and plans are made for them to wed within the confides of Mia’s rather scenic home back in Australia. After informing his friends, David and his ‘Best Men’ – Tom (Kris Marshall), Graham (Kevin Bishop) and Luke (Tim Draxl) – travel across to Australia to celebrate the upcoming nuptials, unaware of the influence or importance of Mia’s family, the Rammes.
Of course, in true Hangover style, things don’t quite go to plan – a combination of drugs, drink and one...

After an action-packed "Bachelorette" premiere that included a masked Phantom of the Mansion and a guy who got so drunk they had to pour him in a cab and send him home, we are back with the episodes where the dates start. Fun stuff.
William's Date
Blonde-haired, blue-eyed hunk William gets the first one-on-one, which whisks him and Ashley off to Las Vegas. Their first stop is a wedding cake shop, where they smush cake on each other's faces. They then go pick out rings. William does not know what is happening and neither do I. Ashley is cracking herself up as she walks him through all these Vegas-wedding activities and William starts playing along - until a minister at a chapel is there and ready to go, then William starts to get a wee bit nervous.
Ashley comes into the chapel in her white mini-dress and the minister begins.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will invite 100 members of the public to their wedding via a random draw. The couple, who will tie the knot in a lavish ceremony at London's Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, want the British people to be deeply involved in the celebrations and are delighted their plan of inviting a selection of ordinary citizens has been approved.
"William and Kate wanted the British people involved at a deeper level than simply holding street parties," a source involved with the St James's Palace planning committee revealed. "They were crystal clear on this from the outset and were delighted when the idea of a random selection was mooted."
"Those lucky enough to land an invitation will only find out when it drops on their door mat. Can you imagine? It's like winning a Willy Wonka Golden Ticket for your front-row seat in history."

Tamra Davis Last week, I saw two of the best films I have seen all summer. One was Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, a film I beg you all to see before it gets shunted out of theaters in the next two or three weeks. The other film was Tamra Davis's new doc Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child.
Radiant Child is one of those films that often flies under the radar during this crowded summer season that deserves more attention than it is currently getting. It debuted earlier this year at Sundance along with the much more hyped Banksy film Exit Through The Gift Shop, and the comparisons are obvious. Jean-Michel Basquiat is the blueprint for an artist like Banksy and a cautionary tale as well.
But the similarities stop there. Both films are great. Probably the two best docs you'll see this year. But Banksy...

By his own account, Luke Wilson should never have become an actor. Growing up in Dallas, he wasn't active in drama; he did one play in high school, and the writer-director yelled at him for not taking things seriously. He was "forced" into his breakthrough role in the short film "Bottle Rocket" by its writers: his brother Owen and director Wes Anderson. And he has never, ever had a headshot. Wilson explains in his signature laid-back Southern drawl, "I was told many times, 'You need one, go get one!' And I could never bring myself to do it. I'd go into auditions, and I'd see a stack of a thousand of them, and I would tell myself, 'I may not get this job, but I know I'm not going to be in that stack.' "While it would be easy to resent Wilson for his subsequent success, he remains...

Gary Ross, the writer and director of Seabiscuit and Pleasantville, has signed on to direct an adaptation of Evan Thomas’ Robert F. Kennedy biography His Life. The script will be written by Eastern Promises and Dirty Pretty Things writer Steven Knight. While I have my reservations about Ross, Knight is an incredibly talented screenwriter, and I’m sure he’ll be able to tap into the source material adequately.
The best news, however, is that Green Zone’s Matt Damon has reportedly been cast as Kennedy. Damon is a diverse actor, not to mention a pretty good physical match for Kennedy, so I’m certain he’ll be able to bring Kennedy back to life with skill.
From Mary Carroll’s Booklist review of His Life:

The fairytale wedding ceremony of Kevin Jonas and his longtime girlfriend Danielle Deleasa has been shared by Access Hollywood through video footage. The clip features the time the oldest member of the Jonas Brothers exchanged vows with Danielle.
After sharing a kiss, Kevin and Danielle then made their way to the ballroom where the reception was held. "This is insane," those were the first words coming out from Danielle's mouth when she saw that a winter wonderland party has been set inside the Oheka Castle.
Best men of the evening, Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas, went on to the dance floor and showed off some moves before giving it entirely to the newly-wed couple who danced to Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel". Also, there is capture where Joe performed his "Single Ladies" moves.

Kevin Jonas, the eldest member of the pop band, Jonas Brothers, wed longtime girlfriend Danielle Deleasa in Long Island Saturday December 19th. The fairy tale nuptials took place at the luxurious Oheka Castle in posh Huntington, Long Island. Kevin supplied his fiancé with the perfect Disney fairytale wedding -- but with white out conditions and two feet of snow piling down, would Mother Nature crash the party? The fairytale began last July when Kevin Jonas, who was on tour, flew home to New Jersey to surprise his girlfriend Danielle. Kevin showed up on Danielle's doorstep with a three-carat diamond promoting an immediate yes response from the bride to be. The couple who met in 2007 while both separately vacationing in The Bahamas began to plan their fairy tale wedding. Amidst all the planning, cake sampling, and dress fittings, there was one thing the couple did not take into account, Mother Nature.
