In 1996, Sunil Shetty had 9 releases from which 2 had flopped. Shastra was an average runner which worked only because of Sunil's angry image and the storyline. Director Sanajay Khanna after the super hit Anth comes back with Sunil Shetty in his next flick Shastra( weapon). The movie is good, it isn't a thriller and the story is sort of similar to other Sunil Shetty flicks like Vishwaasghaat and Rakshak which were successful flicks. I saw this movie in the halls, the movie was applauded because of Shetty's powerful performance. The acting was which was a con for the movie. Besides Danny Denzongpa, Sunil Shetty,and the villain, all the other people are terrible. The subplots which involved some cheesy comedy was handled in a bad way. Unlike Anth, this movie fails to deliver a good subplot. The movie was mainly about revenge, action. Other genres like Romance, Comedy is poorly executed. The Action, the dialogues are the things that stand out. Sanjay Khanna's direction is really good. He is the man who gave Shetty his first super hit Anth in 1993. But, sub genres and subplots played by supporting characters is weak and missing. Its like watching a 3 hour long movie with continuous action. Although, the subplots ruin the movie, the story is made in such a way, people will not sleep like they do in horrible Akshay Kumar movies from 1997. Sunil Shetty movies are usually good, even with bad subplots, veteran directors like Sanjay Khanna and veteran actors like Sunil Shetty will make sure the movie is enjoyable. I highly recommend this movie, go and watch it, just skip the bad subplots. Final Verdict: 8/10
