Susan Townsend is divorced and living in a well-to-do suburban neighbourhood. She works at home and keeps to herself, as difficult as that may be with her nosy neighbours. Directly across the street from her live the Norths. She doesn't know them very well and a handyman seems to be there constantly. Susan is asked to lunch one day but arrives to find Louise North and the handyman dead in the master bedroom. Evidence at the Coroner's inquest suggests that the two were having an affair and that their death was the result of a double suicide. Over time Susan and Bob North strike up a friendship but little does Susan realize exactly what she has got herself into.
