Finally!
insomniac_rod6 January 2007
Long time forgotten movie on my local Blockbuster. Heck, since the mid 90's this movie has been on the Horror shelf and sadly, as far as I know, nobody ever rented it.

I refused to rent it until I watched every single Horror movie on the shelf. Some were utter crap, some were decent. The time for "Backlash 2" came and boy, I regret for not renting it before!

I haven't seen the original "Oblivion" but this sequel is entertaining as hell and perfectly displays clichès from Western movies but in Full Moon's strange perspective. Yes, there's lot of futuristic action in the West. Some cheesy weapons but still impressive.

The acting is also weird but likable. A bunch of cowboys in the style of Metal Gear.

There's minimal Horror in this movie but still it should please a conventional Horror fan.

Musetta Vander (Queen Sindel from the second Mortal Kombat movie) is hilarious and very sexy! Extremely sexy I'd say. The story is entertaining and might keep you wondering "what the hell is going on?".

Give it a try if you are into Full Moon's campy sense of movie making.

Must-see for the goddess Musetta Vander's high-camp acting!
kynoceph28 February 1999
This sequel is better by far than the original "Oblivion." The humor is broader, the pace is faster, and most of the movie is handed over to the extremely luscious Musetta Vander, who camps it up outrageously as the evil Betty-Page-style villainess Lash. Like its predecessor, "Backlash" relies on the plot cliches of Western movies, updated with Full Moon-style science fiction trappings. Musetta Vander steals the show here, but mention must be made of Julie Newmar's dreadfully campy performance as Miss Kitty and George Takei's demented, drunken town doc. Once more Meg Foster does the best she can with virtually nothing, and once more the rest of the cast is pretty much negligible with the exception of Maxwell Caulfield as the dandyish monster bounty hunter Sweeney. In short, a fabulously bad movie, and Musetta Vander is absolutely delicious. She dominates (pun intended) this flick! I think I'm in love...

Very little plot, marginal acting, but better than Oblivion #1 .....
merklekranz25 June 2016
"Oblivion 2 Backlash" will never be mistaken for a good movie, yet there are obvious improvements over "Oblivion #1". First, the film moves along at a tolerable pace, as opposed to #1 which often dragged. Second, there are attempts at "black humor" in #2, some of which actually succeed. Third, more Musetta Vander, who is by far the most interesting character. Fourth, the cheesy cavern scenes are laughable, with the camera shaking to simulate a giant turtle emerging from his long buried hibernation. In summary, this movie can be enjoyed without even having seen the first "Oblivion", and is quite frankly better. Sort of the "cream of the crap." - MERK

Padded campy sequel
amesmonde6 February 2012
The wild desert planet of Oblivion, bounty hunter Sweeny is search for a saboteur and all hell breaks out in town when the mark strikes a deal to control the mining of Derconium.

Backlash, is padded with a lengthy title sequence and a seven-minute round up of the FullMoon original Oblivion but still crams in plenty of what looks like made for TV action, as the Lash (Musetta Vander) joins with Jaggar (again Andrew Divoff) evil twin of reptilian Redeye.

There's a barrage of flimsy in-jokes (Star Trek's George Takei flashing the Vulcan greeting) Meg Foster, Julie Newmar, Isaac Hayes and the rest of the original cast return (as the films were conveniently shot back to back). There's a new addition Maxwell Caulfield as Sweeney but like its predecessor Vander steals the show.

Director Sam Irvin delivers more campy Western, science fiction fun but you have to be a lover of B-films to enjoy.

More of the same, but not much happens

Oblivion 2: Backlash has a promising start but after Sweeney arrives it loses its way. It just isn't as entertaining as the original. Sweeney (and later Jaggar) are simply not as much fun as Redeye and Lash.

Miss Kitty and Mattie are in this one a bit more but we get less of Gaunt and even less of Buteo and Doc Valentine. It's quite short too, and that makes it feel like it is just another episode and not a stand-alone movie.

Miss Kitty's Son?
jillhoffman1-569-28596226 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was just watching the much better Rifftrax version (that's why 3 stars instead of 1). When Miss Kitty is talking to Sweeney and refers to Zack as her "Ssssss...sincere friend" was the character trying not to say Son? Is that why she sacrificed her life (or one of her nine) for him? Is Miss Kitty Zack's mother?? It would make sense as to why she was - as Zack pointed out - always good to him and his dad.

Cinematic oblivion indeed!
opticuscro27 January 2021
Intro begins with a bad scene from the first part, the introduction is monotonous and too long. Bad acting, incredibly bad, throughout the film the physical behavior (movements, gestures) of most actors are simply not in sync with the situation happening around them (if it weren't so sad it would be funny). Special effects in general the visual impression is bad, and at the time when is shoot it could have been done immeasurably better. Surely this is not the movie that you draw from the past and he delight you!

This is a fun movie that's about equal to the first film
kevin_robbins18 February 2022
Oblivion 2: Backlash (1996) is a Full Moon Features movie that I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline picks up where the last film left off in the same mid western town on another planet filled with aliens and outlaws. When a woman on the run from the law arrives on the planet she is followed closely by a bounty hunter who enlists the help of the sheriff to bring her in. The task will be more daunting than it sounds.

This movie is directed by Sam Irvin (Gods and Monsters) and stars Richard Joseph Paul (Vampirella), Jackie Swanson (Lethal Weapon), Andrew Divoff (Wishmaster), Meg Foster (They Live), Isaac Hayes (Escape from New York), George Takei (Star Trek) and Carel Struycken (The Addams Family).

They did a really good job bringing so many of the original cast back. Takei, Hayes and Struycken are really great side characters who are the glue that keep the film together. Miss Kitty's Bar is always fun, the attire is unique and well selected and the action scenes are entertaining. The dialogue is very comic book like and light hearted. The CGI is fairly mediocre and the claymation ending was just okay.

Overall this is a fun movie that's about equal to the first film. I would call this an above average picture that I would score a 6/10 and recommend seeing once.

Fun

Warning: Spoilers
Written by comic and Star Trek writer Peter David and the sequel to 1994's Oblivion, this Full Moon movie has a great cast, I'll give it that much. There's Andrew Divoff coming back as Jaggar, along with Musetta Vander as Lash, Richard Joseph Paul as Marshal Zack Stone, Jackie Swanson as Mattie Chase, Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame member Isaac Hayes as Buster, Julie Newman as Miss Kitty (simultaneously a Batman and Gunsmoke reference), Twin Peaks giant Carel Struycken as Gaunt, George Takei as Doc Valentine and Romanian singer Nadine Voindrouh as Josephine.

There's a new bad guy in town, however. Sweeney, a British dandy who is the deadliest bounty hunter in the universe (played by Rex Manning, err, Maxwell Caulfield) has come to Oblivion to bring Lash to justice. This character originally appeared in David's DC run of the Star Trek comic book.

While this was shot at the same time as the original, troubles between Full Moon and Paramount Pictures led to this movie being delayed. As this was the end of the studios working together, the third movie in the Oblivion series was canceled.

Ever watch a pointless film? If not, may I suggest this one.
Aaron137523 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film rates a 5.4 here? I think that is higher than the first film! Compared to this, the first one was an insanely action filled film, this thing was so pointless...they managed to get the cast together again and it is not like they even tried to do anything else. The story was terrible, it goes nowhere, nothing is explained and then the characters do not act like they did in the first film. Remember when the guy became Marshall and started gunning people down with deadly skill and precision? Well forget it, here he is hopelessly incompetent. It is like they ditched the action in this one thinking this would make a great episode in a comedy they were thinking about doing.

The story, well Lash from the first film has a claim on a cave, there is a bounty hunter coming to the town and Redeye has a brother that does not really do all that much. Oh, and there is a giant turtle...that isn't explained. This film is just scenes that interconnect and we are supposed to just go with it or something. As I said, the action is nearly all gone as about the only thing you get is a lame fight between the marshal and the bounty hunter where you see the bounty fight in a style that seems mediocre at best, but he is apparently a super tough guy. Julie Newmar's character factors in it more, but what's the point? This thing is just people dressing as the characters they were and just doing something else with them. It is dull and it just does not work.

George is back doing Star Trek references, maybe if he was a good actor and not just a background character in the original Star Trek he would not need to be spouting off lines from his old show. Of course, we all did something bad in life to still have to put up with him acting like he is something more than a has been, I mean he was so upset Shatner got rid of his scene of becoming a Captain, I say good for Shatner, I just wish he could have gotten rid of his character earlier so we would not have to endure his ramblings. Issac Hayes whispers his lines, Julie is doing her Catwoman shtick and Lash, the person you think is going to be super important spends a lot of her time having to sit in a cell or flirt with pointless lizard man.

So, I have never seen such a lifeless sequel in all my life. It literally seems that no one wants to be there with the exception of the undertaker guy and Keyes who basically plays the same role, but does it well. The first film had the bad guy ripped apart by scorpions after a shootout, this one really has no bad guy as the bounty hunter is just there to be British, who knows what Lash is doing and new lizard guy played by the first lizard guy really adds nothing and just how would we know Lash even had a new claim. Then we get a giant turtle showing up and doing nothing. It is literally the size of Gamera and it is lumbering forward, seemingly on a rampage and they just cut away from it and say nothing more about it. Usually Full Moon films are fun and entertaining even when they are bad, but this one is a rare exception, it was just bad.

An awesome movie to wander into on a slow Sunday afternoon.
spooneye10 November 1999
This movie, quite frankly, rules. I happened upon it one day while channel-surfing and I can tell you that no movie has quite the effect of Oblivion 2: Backlash. It may not be a good idea to rent this movie, because it may not be able to earn the cost of the rental. However, it's the best movie to accidentally start watching when you don't know what in blazes it is. Yee-ha for Oblivion!

Cowboys and Aliens ...1996!
kosmas-thrash-zone23 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Here we have the sequel of sci-fi western movie Oblivion. The first movie was a very great trashy sci-fi western comedy that does not take itself too serious, but was too damn slow paced and boring at some points.Yeah the first movie has weird - cartoon like- characters and cheesy dialogues, lots of humorous one-liners and also bizarre special- effects and costumes. But nο actual plot and incoherent situations. It was fun too watch but the second movie is a bit better (not a lot though ,just a bit -we re talking about bad movies, dudes!).

Actually the Oblivion was shot back to back with Backlash and so we are not talking about an actual sequel, just "the second part of a some kind of TV mini-series".I said that because the first 10 minutes are actually footage from the first movie , a summary for those who didn't watch the first one(Just skip this part). And the whole duration of the film is only 83 counting the 10 minutes of footage so i don t recommend this movie for those who didn't see the first part.

Backlash is an incoherent and no actual plot movie like its predecessor. It begins from where the first movie left off.All the cast of the first movie re-appears in this one except from those who die at the first part. But it focus more on Lash(Musetta Vander),the female villain in the first movie.Vander is hilarious and too damn sexy in her role. Also we have new characters appeared: the lethal bounty hunter and gentleman named Sweeney and the some sort identical brother of the main villain of the first movie Redeye ,called Jaggar.

May Backlash be a little funnier than its predecessor with the same kind jokes but it is more fast-paced(because of its duration), not such a mesh and not so tiring. The acting is not good neither bad and the plot is not so cheesy like the first one but cheesy enough for a b movie fan and it also lacks of the action of the first because it centers on comedy and the clichés of the spaghetti westerns. The campiness of Backlash ensures that you and your friends may have a good fun drinking night on your couch if u have seen and liked the first.they just don't make low budget movies like Oblivion I & II anymore. The uniqueness of these two films, a hybrid of sci-fi spaghetti westerns with elements of comedy, horror, romance(and drama particular in the first Oblivion) are the weird recipe for cult not classic movies that spoiled somewhere but who cares... i consider these films two of best from Full Moon. Yee-ha!!!!!!!!!!!

Also i forget to mention that the hilarious performance of George Takei as the alcoholic town doc is one of a kind and reprises his role in Backlash:"Jim, beam me up!")
