Indecent Seduction...Perfect Title
bronzesrv18 November 2018
This is one of my old favorite movies I've been watching it for years. And it's also good to use as a tool of what teens should and should not do, what signs to look for with this kind of abuse that happens from older people of power, especially teachers. "My daughter's honor", I never did agree with that title because this isn't the movie where a parent fights for her daughter, in fact it isn't until the end of the movie that the parents actually find out and do something! So again "indecent seduction" is a much better title! What annoys me most about the movie is how this sick man had a pattern of abuse with his students for years, all the students knew, the staff and other teachers knew and did Nothing! So sad how that happens more often than not, and the fact that this is based on a true story makes it all the more disturbing. I thought Gary Cole and Nicholle Tom did excellent jobs with these roles. You can really feel the characters! I still can't wrap my mind around how this young girl's parents let her go to a rock concert and spend the night at this man's house regardless that she supposed to be hanging with the daughter, they never even met his daughter or knew her to be one of the daughters friends! So to me that was an instant red flag and then after the rumors of her and the coach having an affair the dad still allows her to go camping with this Man's family!? Absolutely disgusting, are we that naive folks!? Again this movie serves as an excellent tool to have you keep an eye on your kids!

Much better than expected ...

Warning: Spoilers
I saw Indecent Seduction (as it is called in the UK) on television late one night, and watched it expecting it to be Shannon Tweed - type movie. Instead it was an enthralling film, well acted by it's young cast and in particular Gary Cole as Coach Nash. Young Amy Dustin starts high school as a fresh young girl (as shown by the soft toys she has in her room and scatty nature) and finishes her first year as a worldly wise, somewhat cynical young woman after her "crush" and mild flirtation with football coach and biology teacher Pete Nash becomes a full blown sexual relationship. Cole gives a superb performance as Nash, at times acting as another father to Amy, at times becoming angry and all the while coolly manipulating the situation. He is shown to be the worst kind of sexual predator. Sex is dealt with subtly, and while the movie begins to tail away a little towards the end, a scene where Coach Nash professes to love Amy to a colleague from prison is thought provoking and makes the viewer wonder about the character afresh.

Of course this is not a great film. However, it has some edge to it, more so than one might expect from a TV movie, and is well made. Ultimately, I would recommend the film.

A disturbing but good film!

Warning: Spoilers

An interesting attention grabbling/holding film that I thought did a great job of illustrating of how some people out there are sexual predators who target young and vulnerable targets to give them sex (and as a result seriously unfit to hold teaching positions). I thought Gary Cole and Nicholle Tom were both very good in their roles, and the same for the rest of the cast.

I 100% agree with the movie message, that this wasn't about a school teacher having an affair with a student but an abuse of power. What would any reasonably healthy minded 40 plus male teacher see he's likely to have in common with a 14 year old? Why repeatedly put personal compliment notes into a homework folder or ask a student to see them in private only to unexpectedly kiss them if not deliberately up to no good early on? It's also made obvious this teacher isn't sincere on respecting Amy's feelings on sex and repeatedly guilt trips her over things which aren't her fault to manipulate her into doing what he wants (I kept thinking what a totally selfish tosser this character was! Especially considering how much he lies to his family too). Also, if this was just about feelings for Amy why do as he did with two other girls before?

Another thing I appreciated about this film was hearing The Mavericks song "Oh What a Thrill." I hadn't heard that track before and instantly liked it.

I just had a few small issues with the movie as follows:

1.) Firstly, I don't think a serious enough atmosphere was given to the scene when Pete Nash was told he was being suspended/that the police were coming for him for it to be the most convincing.

2.) I think if Amy could have been shown having at least a bit more of a conversation with Missy Ross on what had happened the film would have been even better. That's because I thought Missy was also an important character in relation to the story (same for the other girl this teacher targeted who we never get to see at all, I think it would have also been good if her appearance could have also been included).

3.) I also didn't find the court scene, when Pete Nash pleaded guilty, at the point his wife approached and hugged him too convincing either. Not in the absence of a scene that explained why she did this anyhow. It struck me as far more likely she'd want no more to do with him!

4.) I think it could have been better explained as to why the prison sentence given to coach Nash was as light as it was all things considered!

Overall, well worth the watch though!

Distressing
nightroses13 June 2022
A 14 year old girl is seduced by her teacher, who is also the football coach, and things go too far. It was a very gross film as the teacher was a pervert and a predator, but it seemed everyone blamed the innocent girl. Once it all was revealed, the entire school backed the teacher pedophile, and even the girl's own friends turned cold on her. Only her parents were supportive of her. The film just shows how miserable things can be when kids are sexually abused by elders and nothing is done about it if the adults are popular and respected.

This movie will be on Lifetime Movie Sundays for years to come...
togglin_sweetie_pi19 January 2003
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** When you watch this movie, you are torn between thinking it's not worth your time, and feeling outraged for the young teen Amy, who gets caught up in an affair with the head football coach, Nash. It starts off as "innocent" flirtation, then into a full affair, with Nash getting insanely jealous and manipulating Amy into doing things that no teenager should ever have to do with their teacher. It seems that everyone in town knows about the two of them, however they all act as if it's completely normal. Finally, Amy's parents find out and contact the police. Once Nash is put away, the entire town acts as though it's Amy's fault. The ending leaves something to be desired, but overall this movie is one of the better Lifetime Sunday movies.

A Constitutional Right
lavatch6 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Coach Pete Nash is constantly working on his game plan. But his playbook is not primarily for the football team at Tate Union High School in Oklahoma. Rather, he is a predator who believes he is above the law when it comes to his seduction of young Amy Dustin.

"For My Daughter's Honor" was well performed by the ensemble cast. Amy was lured into a relationship that was audacious in every respect. Coach Nash would even bring Amy along on camping trips with his wife and children. As a local potentate due to the obsession with sports, he felt that he was untouchable.

One of the most interesting characters is Amy's mother, Betty Ann Dustin. Mrs. Dustin takes a stand in assigning blame to the school and the community for the abuse of her daughter. Finally, two competent attorneys file a civil suit and win a verdict that established the precedent of a constitutional right to Amy for basic protection as a child under the law.

As portrayed in the film, Nash was given an extremely lenient sentence of five years in prison and a decade of probation. In one of the closing scenes, Nash is depicted in prison in attempting to get a note to Amy through one of his assistant coaches. The deranged Nash has learned nothing!

The filmmakers could have taken more time in developing the transformative court ruling at the end. Otherwise, the acting was flawless and the screenplay was thoughtful in developing a harrowing and socially relevant drama.

I'll watch any 90s after school special. The acting wasn't as bad as most others. There were however a lot of scenes that felt unnecessary, and others that just never led anywhere. While the movie had a decent duration, it ended so abruptly. Was really hoping for more of an ending. Everyone that was cast did a good job. Subject matter is obviously uncomfortable and its difficult as a viewer to not become infuriated.

I was in this movie
Queenkellann5 March 2006
This movie was filmed at my high school my junior year!!! I remember it was so much fun filming! I am even in the class room scene...I am the girl that looks up at the clock when the bell rings...hehehe! The female leads were all really mean to us (they called us "Well-Fare Peasants") but, hey what can I say that was like 10 years ago, we were all a litter meaner in high school! I even had to make out with my boyfriend at the time on the front lawn of the school....good times!!! I will always be able to watch this movie and remember high school! PS: Two teachers were fired for doing the same thing "Coach Nash" did a few years later...talk about "art imitating life" this was "Life imitating Art!"

Good Potrayal of a Difficult Subject...
vnssyndrome8918 June 2023
FOR MY DAUGHTER'S HONOR\INNOCENT SEDUCTION

BASIC PLOT: A teenage high school student, Amy Nash, (played by Nicholle Tom) is seduced by her biology teacher, Pete Nash (played by Gary Cole).

WHAT WORKS: *The acting in this is very believable, both Gary Cole and Nicholle Tomdo a great job. The potrayal of small town Texas (where the original incident took place) in the 1980's is very accurate. Football is God, women have their place etc. The movie portrays this accurately.

Everyone always blames the women who are sexually violated. Movies that force us to confront this fact, may make us uncomfortable, but it's a good thing. We should never be afraid to confront our own biasis. The fact that a legal precedent was set when the girl sued, should be celebrated.

*Having grown up in the time and place this true story takes place, I can relate. I was never taken advantage of by an older adult, but we as teenagers had our own lives. Helicopter parenting is detrimental to all involved, and the answer here is not to smother your children, but to give them good life skills BEFORE you push them out of the nest. Amy confesses to Coach Nash that all her parents do is fight, and they don't even notice the family unit anymore. He responds by understanding that it's "rough on her," and that "parents get so caught up in their own problems, they don't see the affect it's having on their own kids". HE IS RIGHT. She wouldn't be vulnerable to him, if she had a strong foundation at home. Kids look for stability, if they have good role models at home, they can have more freedom, and still make good choices. Give you kids a soft place to land, a sympathetic, non-judgmental ear, and they will surprise you with good decision making.

*On a personal note: I think it is so sad where we have ended up as a society. Principal Arnet (played by Tom Virtue) says to a teacher who is expressing concern over Coach Nash's behavior with the girls, that all kids need affection, that's why he had bumper stickers made up that say, 'have you hugged your student today'. How sad we now live in a world where there is NO contact between anybody, and Principal Arnet's sentiment, that sometimes kids need a hug, would have him drawn and quartered. I am in no way condoning his blind eye, but instead understand his yearning to see the good in people. That can blind us to bad behavior, but the opposite, being fearful of everyone, is just as bad.

I had a TERRIBLE childhood, and my teenage years were bad. But I had a teacher in the '80's, Mr. McElvain at Rider High, in WF, TX, who saw that I was in trouble, and wrote me a note telling me I was smart, capable and deserving of love especially from myself. I carried that letter with me for all of my teenage years, and would take it out and read it, especially after I was removed from my parents home. Have we, as a society, really decided that a teacher can't hug a student who needs it, or write a letter to a student encouraging her to better things? I know that letter wouldn't be written today, and that's sad, because it saved my life-literally. We SHOULD NOT as a society, let a few bad apples, rob us of our human compassion, and need for others.

*One of my HUGE pet peeves is bad accents in movies. I have often thought I should have been a dialect coach for Southern accents (I am from Texas). I was expecting to have the accents in this movie grate on my nerves, but aside from a few hiccups, they aren't that bad.

*I love using the band The Mavericks as the soundtrack, it really works.

WHAT DOESN'T WORK: *I don't know the true ages of the girls involved in the real story, but here to move the plot along, they have 16 year old Kimberly Jones (played by nm074908), Amy's best friend, tell the principal, that Amy and Coach Nash are having an affair. This is highly improbable. Kimberly had been participating in Coach Nash's bad behavior, just not anything sexual. Kimberly got Coach Nash to buy the girls wine coolers, break into the school's library, and take his truck 4 wheelin'. She is complicit in all these goings on, she would not suddenly rat on her friend (and herself), especially for no reason. Teenagers live in a closed society, and usually they don't break ranks, even if they don't like each other. Kids don't rat out other kids for no reason. It doesn't feel genuine, and kicks you out of the movie.

TO RECOMMEND OR NOT TO RECOMMEND, THAT IT THE QUESTION: I would recommend this movie. It's tough to watch, but it's done well, and for the most part, it's believable. That is no small feat for a small budget, Made-For-TV movie.

CLOSING NOTES: *This is a Made-For-TV movie, please keep that in mind before you watch\rate it. TV movies have a much lower budget, and so your expectations should be adjusted.

*I have no connection to the film, or production in ANY way. I am just an honest viewer, who wishes for more straight forward reviews. Hope I helped you out.

Raises awareness of a serious issue, but too upsetting to watch a second time.
lemonlips_2422 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I have an odd affinity for cheesy '90s TV films (especially Lifetime style ones), I find them more entertaining than many of the TV films made today. I watched this one on Tubi since it caught my eye on every other free movie streaming service. I have mixed feelings about this movie for all the right reasons.

The good thing is that it brings awareness to unfortunately common issues: abuse of power and s*xual misconduct towards minors. It shows that bad authority figures "work their way" up to gain the trust of their victims as well as exploit the misguided feelings the victim may have for them.

The very bad thing (something that unfortunately is true for the real world) is how essentially everyone turned on the victim except for her parents. This young lady's own friends betrayed her after she confided in them about what the coach/teacher did to her. The girl was harassed and shamed by an entire community, and this community treated the teacher as if he's the helpless victim! It also illustrates how in these small towns, the people worship athletics and will turn a blind eye if a beloved athlete or coach turns out to be a horribly immoral individual. Absolutely no one stopped to think that the girl was telling the truth and that the coach/teacher's a predator. The literal child was paying for the sins of an adult. Awful!

The pervasive treatment of the girl upset me so much that after the movie ended, I said, "I'm not watching this movie again." There are many movies surrounding serious and upsetting topics that I gladly rewatch, this is not one of them. "Our Guys" was similar in nature in which a whole community was nasty towards an SA victim and quick to defend the perpetrator just because they're "such an awesome person." I'm unlikely to watch that film again either, especially since in that one, the victim was developmentally disabled. Both of these films are based on true stories.

So if you want to watch this movie, just be aware that it's quite angering. I can't name any alternatives to this one at the moment, as others of the same topic are just as distressing.

saw this last night (may contain spoilers not sure)
selenawannabe23 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie last night on Lifetime movies and it is getting ready to come on again in a hour or so. The movie kind of reminded me of my crush I had on a coach, although I was in college and nothing like that happened. I can honestly feel the frustrations on the "feelings" she had and even his. Although it was all together wrong. I am married to an older man, but I was already in my late 20s when it started. One thing if this guy was "in love" with her, he should of divorced his wife and waited until she was of age. However he was just sick minded and wanted a young piece and needed help. He should of backed away when she said she wanted it over. He, being an adult and a teacher should of been the mature one and not let this crush get to him. Crushes happen all the time with students towards their teachers. I had crushes on teachers in Jr. High (and then later to a coach but like I said, in college), but thank God none of them took advantage of me like that. Teachers and coaches and other adults should expect this, and know where the line is drawn. Great movie and the actors did a great job!

Indecent Seduction (For My Daughter's Honor)
pipsycaldwell7 April 2017
Very thought provoking, without being overly sexually explicit. At 16, Amy is unusually overly innocent. She would be menstruating, therefore would have some knowledge of sex. However, the teacher (coach Nash) being a known paedophile should not have been allowed to teach. He had already had a 'run in' with the school over a previous relationship the year before with another female student. The school were aware of his preoccupation with female students and should have been keeping an eye on him, plus he should have been reported the previous year. His sentence was incredibly light. Amy's parents handled the situation well, the school failed them, the other students failed her. Amy gets my vote for her determination to see justice prevail.

Low Budget Seduction
TheodenLives3 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I think as long as we agree that 99.9% of the "movies" that are shown on the Lifetime Movie Network (LMN) are broad brush cinema cousins to paperback trash novels, everything's fine.

"For My Daughter's Honor" is no exception. As usual, it's "based on a true story"; there's little real character development, but there are plenty of implausible actions. Amy succumbs so easily to the coach's advances that her character should have been made to be six years old instead of thirteen, and even then, a 6 yr old would've run like crazy.

As is LMN's credo, all men must be either idiots or perverts, so Amy's Dad is too wrapped up in his struggling business to notice anything amiss...too bad, Amy! Amy's moronic friends think the coach is great since he buys them wine and lets them drive his truck...too bad, Amy! The principal of Amy's school can't/won't do anything, since he's a limp noodle who doesn't want to get crosswise with the popular coach, and since the football team is more important than any girl who's being traumatized by a teacher....too bad, Amy!

The coach's wife must sleep like a hibernating bear, since the coach wanders his house at midnight and leads poor Amy off to some empty bedroom for some "extra credit". Really too simple-minded to be taken seriously.

Oh yes, eventually the coach goes to the slammer. But who gets blamed? Yikes, it's Amy!

LMN movies are like salted peanuts: tasty, bad for you, and somewhat addictive. I admit I'll watch one now and then just to see how far the story will wander off into the surreal. But LMN truly believes it's performing some sort of service by running these preachy, poorly written monstrosities. They do take on serious subjects, but always bail out when it comes to quality acting and directing, and then go for the "Men are Evil" conclusion.

This movie could have been A LOT better, since the subject deserves a better rendering.

GOOD CAST WHICH PORTRAYED THEIR ROLES VERY WELL
EmmaK200317 January 2003
Nicholle Tom (of Beethoven fame) is excellent as a 14-year-old pupil at a high school. You can see she just has a crush on him, where his feelings are much creepier towards her. But the fact that she was half willing to sleep with him, doesn't mean that he raped her. I'm sure people who have been in that situation will feel differently however. All in all a good cast helped make this movie point out several facts and good important points to be made. The fact that it wasn't graphical in the sexual scenes made it more enjoyable. As most movies concentrate on just sex. Whereas 'Indecent Seduction' focused on the emotional sides of both the pupil - who at such a young age is feeling vulnerable enough already, and the teacher. The end result was what I expected. So for people who haven't seen it, I won't spoil the ending. You can laugh, cry and sympathesie with all characters. So I recommend anyone to watch it, and see for yourself whether or not I am right with my comments.

Frustrating subject matter made worth watching by great performances particularly Cole
shensley-3144531 December 2023
Gary Cole has remained an interesting character actor for me. It seems every performance he has given regardless of how big is always of superior quality.

From In the Line of Fire, to the Brady Bunch movies, to Office Space and I am sure many more Cole is one of our most underrated actors who in my opinion doesn't get enough credit.

I also enjoyed Nichole Tom in Beethoven 1&2 growing up as well as The Nanny so I was eager to check this out.

As some of the other reviewers have noted don't expect this to be an Oscar winner. It has the feel of a 90's made for TV movie for a reason.

I was also disappointed in the ending which I will not give away but it made me angry for a reason I will keep anonymous.

Movies on the subject of pedophilia have never been my cup of tea. Although it won five Oscars I hated American Beauty with a passion for this reason.

However this being based on a true story and handled with some intelligence in shining light on an issue that needs some attention didn't bother me.

In a way this is entertainment as both Cole and Tom are very good and elevate the movie highly with their superb performances.

But unlike American Beauty which was meant purely to entertain and express a disgusting form of art this movie has a message and one not to be ignored at that.

I recommend for performances and sensitivity exercises in dealing with a difficult subject matter.

Unlike some made for TV movies this doesn't have a cheesy feel to it and feels very real.

Give this a stream on Amazon Freevee if the subject matter interests you or you like the actors.

Not the most comfortable film to watch but deals on a very important issue in our society and overall handles it well.

It may look like a low budget TV movie but the acting is better than that and the payoff while predictable makes it better than your typical TV movie or after school special.

Frustrating to be sure but that is the point I feel as this is not the most pleasant subject matter out there for a movie.

Has its flaws to be sure but overall I recommend. I respect Cole even more after this and wish he would have had more leading roles and more appreciation as an actor.

He may not be an Oscar winner but he is an excellent character actor who I feel has never gotten his due. This movie along with the aforementioned rates him highly as an excellent actor for me. And while Tom played ordinary teenaged roles in Beethoven and The Nanny she more than holds her own acting in this.

Subject matter deserves a better representation
caa8218 July 2008
Any adult male who preys on minors should be - literally - whipped to within the proverbial "inch" of his life. And if this individual also is a teacher doing so with a student, salt and iodine should be added liberally to the resulting wounds.

However, I don't think we have to praise what we feel is a mediocre presentation simply because it addresses a serious problem. I couldn't disagree more with those who have proclaimed this a strong movie about this important situation.

The parents here, along with their victimized daughter, all moved more slowly than postal workers on Valium for the first 1 hour and 50 minutes -- then screamed like Banshees on "Speed" for the final 10. Gary Cole, as the villainous - and thoroughly vacuous and unctuous - teacher, is a very credible actor. But here his performance and character sounded like Jethro from "The Beverly Hillbillies" displaying a "dark side."

Even though this film was made a few years ago, and this problem is perhaps a little more evident today, the principal's speeches about teachers and school officials hugging and touching students to make them feel good, etc., was incredibly stupid and naive on the part of the writers. Anybody with even minimal intelligence knows that in the workplace, school - or anywhere else, males should avoid even the most cursory of physical contact. There are many, many scenarios where even the most innocent physical contact can be misrepresented by one of parties involved, or by someone observing. And even the most tentative addressing by one of the parties will find attorneys gathered as if there were a chemical plant explosion or a group of ambulances (to "chase") at a massive freeway pileup.

All-in-all, this is a serious subject deserving of a much better approach than this flick provided.

An Ok Film
reeceaaleyna8 August 2018
You cant expect a high quality film since this is lifetime in the 90s. I just think if girls would understand this. In this film it seems that Amy kinda wanted and didn't want it, young girls might not understand this and think the same as Amy.

Best movie I have ever seen!
ferry_rudolph2 December 2001
This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE of Nicholle Tom's movies. Nicholle was the perfect choice to play Amy Dustin and her acting is superior! I think Nicholle should have won an Academy Award for her performance in this movie. When Amy is forced to by Pete have sex with him you can clearly see the fear in her eyes. I have seen this movie several time and I am still impressed and deeply touched by the way the movie tells the story of Amy Dustin. It is a tragic tale of how a young girl can be abused by a older man. I think everyone (and not just Nicholle fans) should see this movie.

Inappropriate Advances
emenon17 February 2007
A School teacher isn't suppose to get personally involved with students. This Football coach crossed the line. Having sex with a minor is a serious offense. Not only that buying her beer. Drinking underage is against the law. The School Principal didn't want to do anything about it, when it was reported. All because the coach was a popular teacher. This doesn't make any difference. He did wrong and was aware of it. Also Amy the abuse painting slut on her car. Even vandalizing her parents house. Not to mention hanging a dead rat on her rear view mirror. This movie would be a good educational movie for High school students especially girls. If a teacher is doing something that isn't right. This would be a good teaching tool. Nobody has the right to touch anyone inappropriately.

I absolutely LOVE this movie.
saravalintine16 February 2007
It really sheds some bright light on predators in the school system. Great Movie. I first watched this movie when I was like 12. I have always liked movies like this. Lifetime Movies are the best thing ever. The scene where Nicole and Gary are in the locker room I think is well done. You can really feel the emotion from the two actors. I wish this movie was played more often. Movies like this don't come around often. Nicole Tom gives a great performance, and GARY Cole does great also. Where has Nicole Tom been? I haven't seen her in ages. I also love her brother and Older sister(the young and the restless). I definitely recommend this movies to viewers of all ages. 10 stars

This movie was ok but I had a hard time with Gary playing Coach Nash...
ladyval2 January 2001
This movie was shown on Lifetime as For My Daughter's Honor. I had a hard time watching Gary Cole playing this part. He did a believable job, but I think the fact that the school kept brushing it off and his wife never seemed to notice just made me squirm. I think the girl who played Amy did a good job, but her character didn't seem to have enough backbone to get out of a bad situation. It would be good to use to make girls aware of what's appropriate and what's not.

I love the song O What a Thrill by The Mavericks. I can watch Indecent Seduction (For My Daughter's Honor) over and over again. My favorites are Coach Nash, Amy Dustin, Norm Dustin, Betty Ann Dustin and Amy's friend Kelly.
