Acclaimed director Deepa Mehta, known for films like “Funny Boy,” “Fire,” “Water” and “Earth,” has boarded Iram Parveen Bilal‘s Pakistan-set “Wakhri” as a presenting executive producer.
“Wakhri” is set to open the 19th edition of Tasveer Film Festival on Oct. 17 in Seattle. The film tells the story of a widowed school teacher who becomes an overnight social media sensation due to her unfiltered opinions. As she navigates her newfound influencer status, she must balance traditional norms, hidden identities, and raising her 10-year-old son.
The film is inspired by Pakistani social media star Qandeel Baloch who was murdered in 2016. It has already made its mark on the festival circuit, premiering at the Red Sea Film Festival and screening at SXSW, San Francisco International Film Festival, and Cleveland International Film Festival, among others.
“Wakhri” is a collaboration between Sanat Initiative, Awedacious Originals and Parveen Shah Production, with Mehta’s Deepa Mehta Films Inc.

After a very tough week for Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony, the Helldivers 2 community has finally calmed down and is showing mercy for the team behind the game. Johan Pilestedt, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, showed how the studio received flowers from fans.
While this gesture appears to have resolved the controversy, some X users remain unsatisfied. Many CMs and the people behind the game were very bad at managing this situation, allowing the conflict to escalate even more. Many fans are asking the studio to take action.

Director Ari Aster's 2018 debut feature -- the psychological horror "Hereditary" -- is a raw and ruthless portrayal of grief. Seasoned actress Toni Collette was brought on to play Annie, the matriarch of the Graham family, as she spirals into a disturbing emotional state of despair following the death of her daughter, Charlie (Milly Shapiro).
Collette is no stranger to portraying stressed-out and emotional characters. She's portrayed multiple personalities as a suburban mom struggling with Dissociative Identity Disorder in "United States of Tara", worked as a single mom whose child could see ghosts in "The Sixth Sense", and fought to keep her family together while being attacked by evil Christmas toys and elves in "Krampus." To put it bluntly, Collette has been through multiple circles of Hell -- cinematically speaking. And yet, her role in "Hereditary" as a grieving miniaturist was her most challenging yet.

Yulene Olaizola’s “Tragic Jungle,” Natalia Meta’s “The Intruder” and Clarisa Navas’ “One in a Thousand” will compete in the San Sebastian Film Festival’s Latinos Horizontes, a showcase of standout recent movies from Latin America that this year underscores the emergence or consolidation of a new generation of female filmmakers in Latin America.
In all, women direct or co-direct seven of the nine features in Horizontes Latinos, a section which also features two world premieres: “La Verónica,” from Chile’s Leonardo Medel; and “Unlimited Edition,” co-directed by Virginia Cosín, Edgardo Cozarinsky, Santiago Loza and Romina Paula.
Certainly, this year’s San Sebastian makes no claim via its selection to women having suddenly taken over the Latin American industry: Four of the five titles from the region in other sections, including main competition (Argentine Eduardo Crespo’s “Nosotros Nunca Moriremos”) and New Directors (Brazilian João Paulo Miranda’s “Memory House”) are made by men.

Viewers tuned in to wave goodbye to Modern Family, which wrapped its 11-season run Wednesday night.
The one-hour episode secured 7.4 million total viewers and a 1.6 rating in the all-important 18-49 demo.
Those numbers mark the series' most-watched telecast since January 2017, and the highest-rated episode since September 2018.
These are great numbers, and the finale seems to have gone down a treat with fans.
A retrospective special managed 6.7 million viewers and a 1.3 rating.
Maybe the talk of a Modern Family spinoff is not too premature.
Concluding ABC's night was Jimmy Kimmel's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, which managed to pull in 6.3 million viewers and a 1.1 rating.
That's a strong start.
Over on Fox, The Masked Singer took a hit with the increased competition, coming down to 7.7 million viewers and a 2.0 rating.

“The Masked Singer” romped to victory in the Wednesday night TV ratings race, scoring its biggest numbers since the post-Super Bowl season 3 premiere in the process.
The Fox show averaged a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49 across its back-to-back episodes and 8.8 million total viewers, compared with a 2.2 and 8 million last time around. Last night’s episodes didn’t come close to the gigantic 8.1 rating and 23.7 million who tuned in after the Super Bowl, but then again nothing will come close to that at any point this season.
CBS came a distant second on the night, with “Survivor” ticking down fractionally to a 1.6 rating and 8.2 million viewers. The Eye’s “Garth & Trisha Live” special followed that up with a 0.8 rating and 5.7 million viewers. A “S.W.A.T.” rerun rounded things off with a 0.4 and 3.2 million pairs of eyeballs.

Hawaii Five-0 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov says he often planned out his season finales as if they might need to end the series as well, the TV business being unpredictable as it is. That prudence paid off this time around, as Friday’s Season 10 finale will bring the CBS reboot’s run to a thrilling, highly emotional close.
“I thought we had a chance of maybe going another season — every season, I thought for some reason the show would end — but I think the network just thought it was a good time” to wrap things up, Lenkov shared during an in-depth conversation with TVLine.

Katie Crutchfield has always had a knack for noting subtle shifts in the weather. “I watch you anxiously/You paint it celestial, you paint it serene,” she sang over thrashing guitars on “Poison,” from 2015’s Ivy Tripp, making serenity sound like a death knell. On her latest album Saint Cloud, the 31-year-old songwriter trades in the indie-rock neurosis of her previous work for a mellower, twangy sound that nods towards her roots in Birmingham, Alabama. But her piercing observations have only grown sharper with time: “I have a gift, I’ve been told,...

As social distancing and self-quarantines continue, it seems audiences are rediscovering the concept of linear viewing and appointment television, with a small, noticeable boost in ratings and viewership numbers across the board. On Wednesday, The Masked Singer topped the evening with a 2.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 7.86 million viewers, the best metrics for the incognito singing competition since last year’s fall finale (excluding its post-Super Bowl episode).
It was a good way to start the night for Fox, which followed with Lego Masters, up two-tenths in the demo and delivering its most-watched episode since its debut. The network won the night overall in the demo.

“The Masked Singer” was the big winner in the Wednesday night TV ratings race.
The Fox competition show, which unmasked arguably its most controversial contestant yet, scored a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 7.2 million viewers, its largest tally for five weeks. That viewership figure also meant it beat out CBS’ “Survivor” for the most watched program on the night for the first time in a while. “Lego Masters,” which followed “Masked Singer” and was interrupted by a Presidential address regarding travel under the Coronavirus, averaged a 1.1 rating and 3.7 million viewers.
“Survivor” came in at a 1.3 and 6.9 million viewers on CBS. That represents the show’s second lowest viewership in season 40 so far, behind only the premiere. “Seal Team” came in at a 6-week high 0.8 rating and 5.4 million total viewers, likely due in part to the President’s address. “S.W.A.T.” scored a 0.6 and 4.2 million viewers in the 10 p.m. time slot.

Speaking of the “Chiacgo” trifecta, all three shows have been handed three-year pickups by NBC as part of the new deal. Not to miss out on the party, “Svu” has also cashed in from the lucrative deal with a three-season renewal commitment of its own. The pickup will take the series,...

Sean Roman was supposed to return to the Windy City much earlier than this Wednesday’s crossover between Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. (starting at 9/8c on NBC). In fact, the #OneChicago franchise’s big “Infection” fall event might have looked very different if the original plan had worked out.
“We do two crossovers a year, typically a gigantic one in the fall and then a Fire/P.D. one in the spring, and originally, this was going to be our fall idea, where it involved Med,” Fire showrunner Derek Haas says of bringing back former P.D. series regular Brian Geraghty.

This Is Us‘ decision to obscure the face of Randall’s therapist for most of Tuesday’s episode prompted a steady chorus of “Wtf?!” (as in “Where’s the Face?!”) on social media. Viewers did eventually catch a glimpse of Dr. Leigh (and her portrayer, Pamela Adlon), but the big reveal was held until the hour’s closing moments.

Three hard-to-handle events transpire in this week’s This Is Us: Randall enters therapy, Rebecca gets an official diagnosis for her declining mental state, and Madison gives some sound relationship advice.
Of the trio of developments, I’m the most shaken by Madison’s sudden conversion into someone with good ideas.* When the heck did that happen? Is it some magical byproduct of her tryst with Kevin? And while we’re on the topic of byproducts of trysts with Kevin, I’ll say it again: She’s totally going to turn out to be his preggo fiancé, isn’t she?...

Onetime beat cop Sean Roman returns to the Windy City in this Wednesday’s crossover between Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. (starting at 9/8c on NBC), but it won’t be a happy homecoming for the ex-police officer.

Survivor returned to CBS on a steady note.
Survivor Season 40 Episode 1 launched with 6.7 million viewers and a 1.3 rating in the demo.
These results are on part with the fall 2019 opener, but down 25 percent from last year's winter premiere.
If you watch Survivor online, you know the new season focuses on 20 returning winners.
It means the stakes are higher, as well as the cash prize, which has swelled to $2 million.
After Survivor, Criminal Minds had 4 million viewers and a 0.6 rating.
The veteran series has just two episodes remaining.
Are you ready to say goodbye?
Over on Fox, The Masked Singer had 6.6 million viewers and a 1.8 rating.

“Survivor” returned to decent ratings numbers for its landmark 40th season on Wednesday night.
The CBS show’s two-hour premiere scored a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 6.7 million total viewers, which represents a 6% increase in total viewership on last season’s premiere, and a significant up tick on both metrics from the season 39 finale. Last season, which was marred by misconduct allegations and a backlash against the network and producers’ handling of the situation, averaged a 1.19 rating and 6.4 million viewers across its 15 episodes. Later on the network, “Criminal Minds” came in even at a 0.6 and 3.9 million viewers.
“The Masked Singer” was the highest rated show on the night with a 1.8 and 6.6 million viewers. Last week’s episode scored a 2.0 and 7.4 million viewers, however, the show’s slide isn’t at all surprising, given that season 3 premiered behind the Super Bowl to a series high 8.1 rating and 24 million viewers. “Lego Masters...

“Lego Masters” laid the foundation for a strong debut season with its series premiere.
The Lego-based competition series hosted by Will Arnett premiered on Fox Wednesday night to a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.8 million total viewers behind the network’s biggest show in “The Masked Singer.” Following its colossal post-Super Bowl audience of around 24 million, “Masked Singer” was of course going to see a significant drop-off, but still managed to score 7.4 million total viewers and a 2.0 rating, which is above its season 2 average of 7 million viewers and on par with its average rating from last season.
For comparison, the second episode of CBS’ “The World’s Best,” which also premiered after the Super Bowl in 2019, dropped off 75% to 5.6 million viewers from 22.2 million. So all things considered, “The Masked Singer,” which unmasked the Llama last night, didn’t fall off too precipitously.

Super Smash Bros.' director explains why there are so many Fire Emblem characters in the game.
If you think there are too many Fire Emblem characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you'll be happy to know that series director Masahiro Sakurai agrees with you.
"There are too many Fire Emblem characters," says Sakurai in a recent issue of Famitsu. "And there are too many sword characters. I, too, understand. However, these things are already decided, so we move forward. The things I should be thinking about are elsewhere."
Sakurai elaborates on that last part of the statement by saying that he doesn't "choose the fighters based on my own preference, that's for Nintendo to bring in." As far as why Nintendo may have pushed for another Fire Emblem character to be added to the game, Sakurai notes that it may have come down to timing.

“Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away”. Bollywood’s music has been around 89 years going into 2020 and it’s been taking our breath away for however long we’ve been listening to it. Everyone has a favourite singer, music director and genre which defines for them the perfect song. This of course makes a list of the best songs of the decade a difficult task as they are so subjective to each person. There’s so many perfect songs in Bollywood! Thus, below is a list of some of the great songs of the decade!

‘Pee Loon’ – Once Upon a Time in Mumbai
Music: Pritam – Singer: Mohit Chauhan
Overalapping sounds, lightly classical and a love story blossoming… so simple a formula but this song shows why it continues to work. Mohit is sublime backed by Pritam’s instrumentation.

NBC’s trio of “Chicago” dramas ticked down in the TV ratings last night, but there’s no need to call the police, the fire brigade or an ambulance quite yet.

Stumptown is trending downwards.
The Cobie Smulders-led ABC drama slumpd to series lows Wednesday night.
Stumptown Season 1 Episode 11 had just 2.5 million total viewers and a 0.4 rating in the demo.
The good news is that ABC is no longer factoring Live+Sd results into renewal or cancellation decisions.
Live+3 is the way forward, and Stumptown remains a strong performer for the network in that metric.
For that reason, ABC will likely renew it. However, it's unclear whether the network would keep it on the fall schedule or push it to midseason.
Opening the Alphabet network's night was The Goldbergs, which had 3.6 million viewers and a 0.7 rating, coming down from its fall finale.
Modern Family (3.8 million/0.9 rating) and Single Parents (2.5 million/0.8 rating) were way down from last week's high-flying post-Jeopardy results.
The series will wrap up for good this April. Are you enjoying the final season and all of the crazy twists?...

With Jeopardy!‘s Goat now crowned after the ABC game show’s strong primetime run, Wednesday’s lineup settled back into form, with NBC’s Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago Pd topping the heap to give the network the overall victory for the night in the adults 18-49 demographic and total viewers.
Chicago Med was Wednesday’s top show in both metrics, and like Chicago Fire and Chicago Pd ticked up a tenth in the demo from last week’s midseason returns, putting them back on par ratingswise with their fall finales.
On ABC, The Goldbergs and Schooled both returned from their winter breaks, with the former off a tenth and the latter even with their previous originals December 11. They led into Modern Family, Single Parents and Stumptown, all seeing dips from last week when they had that Jeopardy! lead-in.

NBC’s trifecta of “Chicago” dramas dominated the Wednesday night TV ratings in the absence of “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time.”
