"Lightyears Ahead Of Its Competition!"
CrabbyLion15 May 2006
It's been a long time, since I last saw "Hypernauts" -- and, like the other DIE-HARD fans, I thought it was "Lightyears Ahead Of Its Competition!"

There are several things, about "Hypernauts", that stick-out, in my mind... MOST NOTABLY:

1. "Yes, Heidi Lucas IS a 'cutie'!"

2. Their Battle-Mecha (and the CG effects used to create them) were "Most Impressive!"

3. The musical score, for "Hypernauts", was composed by CHRISTOPHER FRANKE -- best known for his affiliation & contribution to the German Synthesizer/Rock Group: TANGERINE DREAM, for which my father introduced me to their "Hypnotic Melodies"!

FRANKE, then, went on, to compose the musical score for the Sci-Fi series, "Babylon 5!"

As I had stated, earlier, there were several things, about "Hypernauts", that stick-out, in my mind! And, it is these things that render "Hypernauts" LIGHTYEARS AHEAD OF ITS COMPETITION!

Ron Thornton, the talented fx maestro who was one of the first to bring cg animation to TV in a regular series (Babylon 5)did triple duty on the Hypernauts as head of fx,producer, as well as director. Saturday morning shows have tight budgets, but you'd never know that watching this wonderful series. It rivaled any primetime sf show and packed in an amazing amount of cg in just 22 minutes. The premise & scripts were more sophisticated than what one usually gets for a Sat a.m. show, and the cast did a fine job.Only 8 of the 13 episodes were aired on ABC before the series was sadly cancelled. With all it had going for it I will never understand how that happened. It was shown on the Disney channel a few years ago, but hasn't been seen anywhere since. It would be nice if the Sci Fi channel could pick it up & run a marathon session of all 13 eps as they do with other series during the weekday mornings/afternoons.It is a sf show well worth your time...and yes, Heidi Lucas is a cutie.

Groundbreaking TV

It was a dark day when they cancelled Hypernauts, I remeber debating wether or not to tape all of the Hypernauts episodes for my collection... "naaah, a show this brilliant will be on for years and years to come...it's going to become an institution. It was highly creative, imaginitive, it had a wonderful energy and pace

It really influenced me to pursue 3d animation and special FX as my career, not because it was the most brilliant display of 3d animation/fx but rather because it was put together on a shoe string budget, video and computer aniamtion and still looked amazing really inspired me because now it seemed possible for a kid with just some talent, a bit of sftware and some elbow grease could makeFX for next to no money Now I've been looking for this amazing series on DVD or tape or something but I haven't been able to track down a trace of it, if anyone out there knows where they sell this series please let me know

oh, yeah and Heid Lucas is totally hot, that didn't hurt the show : )

A pretty good show

I think this was maybe 4 or 5 episodes to the show. They were pretty good. A sort of mini-series. Would have been better if they had invested more time into the show. It was interesting, the special effects were pretty cool also.
