An air-hostess (Silvia Munt) is pregnant but she does not know the name of the father , only he's a handsome foreigner . When the baby is born, she gives it to her sister (Carmen Maura) and her brother-in-law (Alfredo Landa) that have already two children . Along the ways , the child grows up as another member of the family . Although the parents keep the secret , the children know that he is different. Once grown-up the differences in the behaviour on the two young boys were raised together come to confront them .Meantime, the rogue , egoistic womanizer Fernando (Achero Mañas) attempts to seduce girls surround and the kind , good-looking César (Gustavo Salmerón) tries to study , and along the way , the another sister Ana (Ana Álvarez) falls for him.

This interesting film deals with family life , dark secrets , romances and human emotions pushed over the edge . This is a rural drama crammed with social habits , family relationship and a triangular love story . Its style is pretty much sensitive and realistic as well in the atmosphere as in the fresh dialog . This film describes the Galician rural life , including character studio of local people and an enjoyable love story among a young couple . Well played by known and notorious actors , such as : the youngsters Gustavo Salmerón as the good-natured , generous brother who tries to study and do the right thing by everyone , Achero Mañas as the selfish and opportunistic brother , Ana Alvarez as the jealous sister and glorious apperance of three great veterans in the Spanish cinema : Alfredo Landa, Carmen Maura and Silvia Munt . Being well accompanied by a good support cast , such as : Héctor Alterio, Cesáreo Estébanez , Gerardo Vera , Francis Lorenzo , Francisco Casares , Maria Galiana and the unknown Miriam Fernández of short career .

El rey del río(1995) stands out the colorful cinematograpy by Teo Escamilla , Carlos Saura's regular , and shot on location in O Corgo, Lugo, Galicia, Spain . As well as evocative and moving musical score by the prestigious Galician band ¨Milladoiro¨ . This is a Spanish average budget production and didn't obtain success enough in the box-office . The motion picture perfectly financed by two magnificent producers , Andrés Vicente Gómez and Manuel Lombardero, and it was compellingly written (Aragón along with expert writer Rafael Azcona) and heavily directed by Manuel Gutierrez Aragón , a good Spanish movies director . El Rey Del Rio has got some prizes and nominations , such as : Berlin International Film Festival 1995 Nominee Golden Berlin Bear : Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón ; Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Spain 1996 Winner CEC Award Best Score : Milladoiro ; Premios ACE 1996 Winner Premio ACE Cinema - Best Actor : Alfredo Landa ; Cinema - Best Director : Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón ; Turia Awards 1996 Winner Special Award Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón .
