This movie changed my life!
AutumnTwin13 August 2004
I am an adoptee, and this movie was the final factor in helping me decide that I was ready to find my family.

I saw that movie when it aired on NBC and launched my journey of finding my birth-family. A few months later, I was reunited with my birth mother and father, EIGHT older siblings, TWENTY nieces and nephews (I now have twenty-four)...and since then, I've gained four great nieces.

This movie really helped me see things from other perspectives than my own as an adoptee. I saw what my mother or siblings might be wondering about me and knew that it was time I searched for them.

I've never seen this movie aired since then...I hope NBC or maybe Lifetime or something decides to air it again someday so I can tape it and show my family the movie that changed my life!

The Other Mother

Warning: Spoilers
This movie touched me like no other. It is the only movie I have ever seen that was able to touch my heart so deeply. I was adopted at birth in 1971 and have no info on my mother other than she was young and she was unwed. It made me realize that this could have been me. My mom might have been forced to give me up. My adoption was closed and I was adopted through a catholic agency, therefore all the searching I have done in the past has came up nothing.Frances Fisher is scheduled for an appearance on ER on 2-10-05 in a similar role. This movie is a must see for people who are adopted, especially if you are like me and have no idea where your roots are. Truly touching. Melissa(Atlanta)

It was wonderful to see this hidden side of adoption revealed.

A true story of a mother's search for the child she lost to adoption. It was a much gentler story than most reunions, but it was realistic in many ways.

Realistic look at birthmotherhood

While certainly not a classic film, or even necessarily a very good movie, this is an excellent, accurate portrayal of the pain of losing a child to adoption. Anyone who has been touched by adoption should be required to see it. (The book, by the way, IS a classic.)

If you don't have anything better to do, watch this movie.

While the premise of the movie was uplifting and even possibly motivating, the execution was extremely slow and lacking. What was a 2 hour movie could have been completed in about 45 minutes, including commercials, if the fodder was removed. If you aren't looking for a movie that will reach out and grab you, but want a movie that is soothing and an interesting "watch", then you will enjoy this movie.
