Plenty of nudity sprinkled throughout
christopher-underwood20 August 2007
This was just a little too campy and played for laughs for me. A little more of the sinister element in this tale of battling wizards and competing hex would have been more to my liking. There is no doubting its full throttle pace though and there is barely a moments pause between one set of swooping ghosts and another bunch of recently returned undead. Plenty of nudity sprinkled throughout and if we wonder how a gang bang is to be played for laughs, what chance have we to work out the humour in rape by spirit? Curious effect in this sequence for as we do not see the invisible rapist all we get are nipples moving from side to side and fleshy indentations to indicate where the bad spirit's hands are. Very odd but then that just about sums up this gory and colourful romp.

Don't mess with a wizard's sister.
lastliberal25 March 2009
There are the British video nasties, and the Japanese Pink films; in Hong Kong, it is Catagoty III. I am not sure what to expect, but I do know they censored Ichi the Killer, so it can't be worse that that.

This is a film about hexing and enchantments with some sex and violence thrown in. One guy gets enchanted and starts chopping up his wife and son and guests. It's bloody, but hilarious, too.

Four friends go to Thailand and get involved with a wizard. Believe it our not, he turns one into a dick-head. They are forced to watch a wizard battle, and things get really ridiculous and funny. Bon (Kwok-Pong Chan) is left behind as the three friends open an enchantment sent to him, and go after the wizard's sister. The wizard comes after them when they return home, and plans to take May (Ellen Chan) when he is finished with them. He has a gruesome death planned for each of them.

Things get very weird and bloody after he accomplishes his mission.

May's friend Mei (Lily Chung) is a witch and has a plan you will not believe. Unfortunately, the wizard gets the last laugh.

Almost as funny as the movie are the subtitles.

Notable only for Ellen Chan, and the penis head
Groverdox24 June 2018
If it's known for anything at all, "The Eternal Evil of Asia" would be recognized for that one scene where a man's head turns into the head of a penis. This effect is actually distressingly lifelike; the special effects people really went to town on making it look real, or as real as such a bizarre effect could look, anyway.

Aside from that the movie has little going for it. It has the typical Category III foible - in fact it might be a common problem with Hong Kong movies in general - the plot is really quite simple, but is told in a confusing way.

Here's the gist of it: the movie is basically about curses placed on some Kongkongese types by magicians in Thailand. To the Asians, Thailand seems to be what Transylvania is to the Europeans; ie. a land of supernatural and mystique. The movie begins with a largely unrelated sequence where a crabby father is killed by a curse put on him by his little son. The movie then jumps to the real protagonists: the stunningly beautiful Ellen Chan and her boyfriend, who are trying to consummate their relationship, but can't, as the man seems to be blocked by, I don't know... a curse?

Ellen thinks her beau cheated on her when he went to Thailand with his buddies, but he swears up and down that that ain't so... the movie makes us wait until almost an hour into its runtime before showing us, confusingly, what really happened: the guy's buddies pretended to be him so that they could get a young girl into bed for a sex session - the movie's only proper sex scene - and she put a curse on him as revenge. Luckily, the Ellen Chan character knows a 'good witch' who works with her at a hair salon. Seriously. So the stage is set for a showdown between the good witch and the bad magician, which, like the rest of the movie, turns out to not make a whole lot of visual sense.

There is a scene at the end of the movie where Ellen Chan and her cursed partner try to have sex without touching each other. Quite a bit of thrusting and some tantalising peeks at Chan's breasts ensue. There is also a scene where a guy gets hungry, and starts chewing someone's fingers. The movie cuts away, and then cuts back, and shows that he has skeletonised the person's whole arm. This is really the only violent scene in the whole movie.

"The Eternal Evil of Asia" is a surprisingly tame affair for a Category III flick, but it is plenty crazy, so if that's what you're after... watch out for the penis head.

Comparatively Mild Category III Entry
TheExpatriate7002 October 2010
To those who are familiar with the Category III genre, the Eternal Evil of Asia will come across as a surprisingly mild entry in the category, with very little graphic gore, and relatively little sex. The basic premise is that a group of Hong Kong tourists in Thailand encounter a wizard, whom they initially befriend. When a love spell goes wrong, however, all hell breaks loose.

The film's main problem is that for fans of the Cat III genre, who are the main westerners that would seek this film out, the film itself is nothing memorable. As a horror movie, it is nowhere near gory enough, and the sex is nothing beyond what you would see on late night Cinemax. (Indeed, if not for one extended sex scene toward the end, it might not have even qualified as a Category III.)

Furthermore, the funny moments are few and far between, with some clearly ripped off from other, better Category III films. In particular, a well known scene from A Chinese Torture Chamber Story is effectively plagiarized, right down to the actress involved.

The film does have some good production values, particularly in its make up, but is not really worth your time.

Eternal Craziness Of CATIII Films...
EVOL6663 March 2006
ETERNAL EVIL OF ASIA is a fun one. Combining some of the best qualities of both the HK CATIII films and the earlier 80's HK sorcery films - EEOA is a wild ride. As expected - a good bit of gore, sleazy sex and rape, a little bit of creepiness, and some insane hilarity that has to be seen to be believed. And of course - don't forget the ridiculously inept subtitling...

Four guys from Hong Kong (reffered to by foreigners in the film as HONGKIES - I almost p!ssed myself the first time I saw THAT...) take a trip to Thailand. One of the guys (named Bon) is engaged to one of the other guy's sister. They go to a sleazy brothel and get chased out, and in search of shelter, the four party-animals end up at a wizard's house. The wizard tells them they have to stay and witness a battle between himself and a husband-and-wife duo wizard team. One of the guys doesn't buy all the wizard talk - so the wizard turns his head into a giant cock (no joke...) which converts the other guys into believers with a quickness. The wizard fights and wins his duel (which is one of the funniest "battle" scenes ever, and includes some high-flying kung-fu sex techniques a la A Chinese TORTURE CHAMBER STORY...) with Bon's help, and to show his appreciation, Mr. Wizard asks the guys to stay and hang out for a bit (and also changes Dick-Head's head back to normal...). There they meet Mr. Wizards hottie sister, who ends up having a crush on Bon - but Bon ain't havin' no parts of it because of his fiancée (who's a fine piece o' ass as well...). She convinces Mr. Wizard to mix up a "love potion" to make Bon fall in love with her, but this whole scheme back-fires horrendously and ends up with her dead. Mr. Wizard is none-too-thrilled about this - and seeks revenge on all involved in his sister's death...

not as "strong" in terms of "shock value" as some of the more notable CATIII entries, but EEOA is still one of the better and more "fun" examples. A decent amount of campy gore, plenty of nudity (including some full-frontal), and a pretty coherent storyline make this one definitely worth checking out. Lily Chung (of RED TO KILL, DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS, and other CATIII "classics" fame) is also in this one as a "good witch" - and I've dug her a lot ever since my first viewing of RED TO KILL. Definitely recommended for the genre fan...8.5/10

Category III Cinema: Eternal Evil of Asia
Captain_Couth25 August 2005
Eternal Evil of Asia (1995) was a bizarre film filled with a lot of sex and violence. It was part of the category III craze that made producers a lot of money. The films were cheap to make and a lot of them were cranked out to make as much money as they can before 1997 arrived. Because they knew when Hong Kong was handed back to China, there would be a few changes made in what kind of films they could produce. While the genre lasted for five years, it was a great time for category III fans.

The movie is about the battle between white and black magic. A group of friends go to Thailand and fool around with a local girl. They do something real bad to her. The girl's brother vows to make their lives a living hell and any one around them. How much trouble can a three guys get on holiday? If you want to find out and experience some of the most wildness fun you'll ever see on video then you need to grab a copy of ETERNAL EVIL OF ASIA! Stars Ben Ng, Lily Cheung and category III stalwart Elvis Tsui.

Highly recommended.

Genuinely scary Asian horror film is one that is worth searching out
dbborroughs18 September 2006
Sexy, funny and best of all scary tale of a wizard taking revenge on a group of friends for events that occurred on a trip to Thailand. Adding into the mix is his desire to destroy not only the friends but the fiancé of one of them.

Why isn't this better known? Its a great little film that has great effects, a great story and chills. Did I mention that this is one of the rare Chinese horror films that actual scared me, and not just grossed me out?

Not for kids, but adults who want a sexy, scary funny movie should put this on their list since they will be in for a treat.

Ellen Chan...nuff said.
InzyWimzy2 July 2002
Even though I was perplexed by the title, this film is a unique mix of Hong Kong horror and comedy!!

Ellen Chan is a hotty!! You can't really blame Laimi, can you?? I cannot describe this movie to do it justice, but DON'T insult a wizard with good hearing (heh heh). There's spellcasting, hexes, and some grisly death scenes, but it's not too shocking or gory to lose sleep over. The magic duel is unique and shows a new meaning of "tag team". The finale is the highlight of the film and depicts a battle I've never seen before in cinema.

Watch this....espeically for Ellen!!

Did that dude just pee his pants and his face?? Awesome!
ElijahCSkuggs25 June 2008
What we have here with Eternal Evil of Asia is a pretty good CAT3 flick. Probably one of the better Horror/Comedies the category has to offer. And to just comment on another comment that was saying it was scary....what the hell are you talking about? Yeah, a movie where a dude's head turns into a penis is real scary stuff.

Anyways, the story revolves around a group of friends being hunted/enchanted by an overly vengeful wizard. Obviously they don't want to die, so they're aided by the babe who played the young & sexy retard in Red to Kill. And low and behold, who do you think is the bad wizard?? Yep. Ben Ng. The maniac from Red to Kill. Kinda nice seeing these two actors reunite in another violent Cat3 flick.

Anyhoo, that's basically the story. Throw in some silly humor, some funny subbing, and some violence, and you have the makings of another successful Cat3 yarn.

I just have to add that invisible blow jobs never looked so good.

Entertaining Cat III craziness.
BA_Harrison22 August 2012
When Thai girl Shui-Mei falls for nice-guy Hong Kong tourist Bon (Kwok-Pong Chan), she gets her wizard brother Laimi (Ben Ng) to use his powerful magic to help her get her man; Shui-Mei's plan backfires, however, when the spell is accidentally intercepted by Bon's three sex-mad pals, and she finds herself participating in an unexpected all-night-long foursome. After the magic wears off, Shui-Mei realises her terrible mistake, panics, and falls on a knife. Understandably upset, Laimi swears revenge...

With the majority of its sex and violence played for laughs, The Eternal Evil of Asia is far from the raunchiest or the most mean-spirited effort that the Cat III genre has to offer; that said, it still manages to be a very entertaining movie, delivering several decidedly warped scenes of a sexual nature and a reasonable smattering of cartoonish gore, all shot in typically stylish 80s/90s HK fashion (lots of neon lighting and slowly-tilting camera-work).

As the film progresses, viewers get to enjoy such silly sights as a ghost impaled on fluorescent lighting, a man so hungry that he eats his own arm, and airborne sex magic, but of all of the supernatural craziness in The Eternal Evil of Asia, the most memorable moments have got to be Cat III legend Elvis Tsui having his head turned into a huge bell-end (that even squirts urine), and an invisible Laimi receiving oral sex from Bon's sexy girlfriend May (Ellen Chan) via astral projection.

7.5 out of 10, rounded up to 8 for IMDb.
