Melissa McCarthy knows her stuff. She can crack through a decent script like few comedy performers today, and when given the safety net of a talented ensemble she can make most films work. Tammy and Spy were uneven, as was The Heat, but she was the best thing in them. And we’ve one more McCarthy-led

Through the use of satire, and a good dose of slapstick, Accidental Love attempts to show some of the more absurd aspects of society. However, the slapstick seems to undermine the gravity of the characters, as it carries the narrative too far into the ridiculous for the audience to then believe the film’s characterization of society. Although it is possible to bring satire and slapstick together in a way that works, in Accidental Love, they feel like two opposing tones. The movie is often humorous because of its astute observations through satire, but also awkward because it relies on embarrassing and meaningless sight gags, which hurt the overall plot and message that the filmmakers are trying to convey.
Accidental Love follows Alice Eckle (Jessica Biel), a woman who gets a nail stuck in her brain during a romantic dinner. Side effects include random outbursts of sexual innuendo, sincere naiveté,...

We head back to Hogwarts, and try and sort out the Harry Potter films. Is Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets the best one, then?
This article contains spoilers for the Harry Potter movies.
The Harry Potter films didn’t need to be good.
The books were already a phenomenon. Only Twilight and Dan Brown’s novels have resulted in midnight openings at bookshops across the world in recent years, and when you look at their film adaptations (Angels And Demons grossed nearly $500 million worldwide, despite being Angels And Demons), it’s clear: the Harry Potter films didn’t actually have to try that hard to be a success.
Across eight films, they told the story of death-magnet legend boy Harry Potter and his loyal flame-locked sidekick Ron as they courted whimsical oblivion on a roughly yearly basis, getting rescued repeatedly by Girl Guide/Wikipedia hybrid Hermione Granger. They...

The 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards went off without a hitch earlier this evening (February 22) with "12 Years a Slave" continuing to make waves snagging the biggest prize of the night.
Before her film won Outstanding Motion Picture, the gorgeous Lupita Nyong'o added another piece of hardware to her already impressive collection taking home a trophy for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, while Kerry Washington snagged up her second Image Award with a win for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series. Kerry's show "Scandal" also won Outstanding Drama Series.
In addition, the hilarious Kevin Hart took home Entertainer of the Year, while Oprah Winfrey paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela with a touching speech and musical dedication.
"He was everything we have all have heard and more. He was humble and he was unscathed by any kind of bitterness after all that we know he's been through," Winfrey said.

Ah, fantasy dates. Where couples are placed in the most unrealistic, extravagant locales, in order to come down to earth and get the most clarity in these final oh-so-important moments. Go figure.
Though I was initially surprised that Brad and the girls weren't whisked off to exotic destinations to work on their tans and relationships all at once, there is certainly no denying the absolute stunning beauty of Atlantic Canada. And why shouldn't we honour these provinces by welcoming them into "Bachelor Canada" fantasy date territory. There's no doubt that after this week of dates, all of them, along with the sheets on their fantasy beds, will never be the same.
As a viewer, it's impossible to imagine Brad having strong feelings for any of these girls -- and I mean strong enough feelings to propose marriage, not strong enough feelings for a Bj when the cameras turn off in the fantasy suites.

The doorbell rings, and the person on the other side of the door wants money. Possibly the only time you're happy to reach for your wallet is when that person is wearing a sash.
Girl Scouts have that effect when they come calling to sell Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs. This year, as the organization celebrates its centennial, Hallmark Channel celebrates Girl Scouts with "Smart Cookies" Saturday, Aug. 18.
It's a sweet film and a bit predictable, but we wouldn't want a horror movie or a film noir about scouts. There are lessons learned -- most of them by adults -- and friendships forged.
A real estate office is the launching point for the film, where Lola (Patricia Richardson, "Home Improvement") is the boss, and Julie (Jessalyn Gilsig, "Glee") is slated to become the top salesperson of the year. Lola mandates everyone in the office do community service and assigns Julie to lead a scout troop.

Sir Paul McCartney and Penelope Cruz among those demanding a halt to oil drilling and unsustainable fishing in the Arctic
Robert Redford, Sir Paul McCartney, Penelope Cruz and an A-list of global celebrities joined forces with Greenpeace and business leaders on Thursday to call for a global sanctuary in the Arctic.
The stars, who also include Jude Law, Pedro Almodovar, Thom Yorke, and One Direction, are among the first hundred names on "the Arctic Scroll" that will be planted on the seabed at the North Pole as part of a major new drive to halt oil drilling and unsustainable fishing in the region.
The campaign was launched by entrepreneur Richard Branson, actress Lucy Lawless and the Greenpeace International executive director Kumi Naidoo at the Rio+20 Earth summit, where government-level efforts to establish a protected area around the pole were killed by the three countries pushing hardest to develop the region: the Us,...
