Songs On Screen: HitFix recurring feature of tributes by writers to their favorite musical moments from TV and film. Check out all the entries in the series here. There are three great songs from American film, and they are all about rainbows. “Over the Rainbow,” “Moon River” and “The Rainbow Connection” – are the three most quintessentially American songs ever to appear on screen, sung by three quintessentially American characters; and all three stand apart as plaintive cries of lonely souls dreaming of someplace far away..”Waiting round the bend” ”where troubles melt like lemondrops” for “the lovers, the dreamers and me” The things these songs share tell you everything needs to know about the character of 20th Century America. The things they don’t share tell you everything you need to know about how that character changed as the era wore on. Let’s start at the top, and the very top it is.

All your prayers to the Gods of Rock have been answered in one little song. Punk pioneer Iggy Pop teamed with post-punk icons Nick Cave and former Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore, creating a musical Dream Team to cover underrated L.A. cult figures The Gun Club for a new tribute album. The faithful take on "Nobody's City" features Pop howling his way through the highly visual lyrics, while Cave adds his ominous baritone growl to the choruses and the bridge. Moore endlessly shreds and feeds back in the background. It's heavy and pummeling, while staying catchy. The version can be found on "Axels & Sockets" is the newest addition to the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project, which pays tribute to Gun Club founder Pierce. Listen to it here: Hear the Gun Club's original version here. "Sockets" also pairs Cave with Blondie's Debbie Harry, and Moore with Pierce himself. It...

Returning to the stage for the third time as host, Seth Rogen helmed "Saturday Night Live" this week (April 12).
The "Knocked Up" star had a little help this time with a few cameo appearances to start off the night in his opening monologue. James Franco, Zooey Deschanel, and Taylor Swift all lent a hand.
Notable sketches included Blue River Dog Food and Steakhouse, where the clumsy funny man helps his wife do nearly everything as she has both arms in casts.
Joining Seth this episode was musical guest, Ed Sheeran, who kicked off his two-song set with an acoustic performance of "Sing," followed by "Don't" later in the show. Check out highlights from the show below.

The Seth-Rogen-likes-weed jokes will never get old, apparently. And Seth Rogen knows it.
In the third-time host’s monologue, Rogen read from a journal documenting his time at 30 Rock preparing for Saturday Night Live, including: “Just got pitched about 50 ideas about weed. Unfortunately, we can only do about 10 of them.” The Pineapple Express star milked the line, but this wasn’t the only drug-tinged joke of the night — surprise!
Though it did seem like we were going to escape the episode without an entire sketch dedicated to the munchies, Rogen’s onscreen stoner reputation prevailed. The second-to-last skit starred a...

Seth Rogen returned to Saturday Night Live for his third hosting gig this weekend - his first in almost five years. Was the third time the charm for the hirsute Canadian? Watch the clips below and decide for yourself! Rogen's monologue was one of the more star-studded of the show's season so far. Zooey Deschanel and James Franco showed up, as did Taylor Swift, who stole the whole bit with just one incisively self-skewering line: "Whenever a man shows emotion, I appear!" The show's digital short this weekend was "Monster Pals." In a world where humans and monsters apparently co-exist,...

Saturday Night Live this weekend featured comic actor Seth Rogan serving as the host and British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran performing as the musical guest.
Gop At Coachella
The California music festival Coachella has been dominating the headlines, so it’s no wonder that Saturday Night Live decided to include it during their cold open this weekend. The twist was a political one, which featured imitations of Jeb Bush (Beck Bennett) and Paul Ryan (Taran Killam).
Seth Rogan Hosts ‘SNL’
In his opening monologue, Rogen claimed that he didn’t need to call from his roster of celebrity friends to make cameos in his third turn as a Saturday Night Live host. Enter Zooey Deschanel, Taylor Swift and his best pal James Franco, who was recently caught flirting with a 17-year-old through Instagram and text messages. Rogen quipped that he'd posed as a young girl and had arranged to meet Franco at a hotel.

It’s almost five years to the day that Seth Rogen last hosted “Saturday Night Live.” (Somewhat amusingly, his “Neighbors” co-star Zac Efron hosted the very next week.) Meanwhile, over the last five episodes, “SNL” itself has survived a rather rocky start to the post-Seth Meyers Era with a string of solid albeit non-classic episodes after the Jim Parsons-hosted debacle. Heading into its final break of the season, it will be interesting to see if the show ends on an upswing or downswing heading into the final stretch of this flawed yet fascinating season. As always, I’ll be liveblogging, assigning grades to each segment. As always, those grades are designed in a lab to make the maximum number of people on the internet angry. They couldn’t possibly be an inherently imperfect way for one person to sum up his or her thoughts about a sketch comedy show in real time.
