The show was broadcast live at 10 O'Clock on CNBC, but before the premiere, Network Executive Producer
Andy Friendly suggested filming a show to have in reserve, in case
Charles Grodin, who lived about an hour from the studio, couldn't make it there in case of bad weather. The guests on this reserve show were
Tony Randall and
Julius LaRosa. During this show, Grodin announced at the end of his monologue that he just realized you have to use the bathroom before you sit down to host an hour show, and raced down the hall followed by a man with a a hand-held camera, disappeared into the men's room for about 30 seconds, and ran back to the studio in time to go to the commercial break.
