While based on a true story, "White Mile" is very reminiscent of a television movie from 1974 titled "Pray for the Wildcats" wherein a corporate survivalist takes a group of ad-men on a desert dirt-bike trip in Baja, Mexico, to test their stamina, and to bring them together in a manly fashion. Like "White Mile" stars a former television icon, Alan Alda from MASH, "Pray for the WIldcats" featured several actors famous for television roles: Andy Griffith, Robert Reed and William Shatner.
A TV movie for the HBO network.
Of the three majors roles (by Alan Alda, Peter Gallagher, and Robert Loggia), only Peter Gallagher's character, Jack Robbins, was totally fictitious, or not based on an actual person (or personality).
Alan Alda, Ken Jenkins and Dakin Matthews all appeared in And the Band Played On (1993). Alda and Matthews also appeared in Bridge of Spies (2015).
Peter Gallagher and Bruce Altman later co-starred in "To Gillian On Her 37th Birthday" (1996).
