SYDNEY -- Following its No. 1 domestic opening, The Interpreter won the weekend at the international boxoffice, according to estimates, with The Pacifier giving good chase. The Interpreter made about $11.9 million in 2,340 playdates in 31 territories. The international cume is $25 million. In Germany, the political thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn opened at No. 1 with $2 million from 398 dates and a 23% market share, ahead of Pacifier's $1.4 million in its second week (off 35%, cume $3.6 million. In Austria, Pacifier won with $335,000 in its second weekend (cume $925,000), followed by Interpreter's opening of $263,000 with 48 dates. Interpreter debuted at No. 1 in Hong Kong and Singapore and at No. 2 behind a local film in South Korea with $755,000 in 90 dates. Sydney Pollack's United Nations drama bowed to an estimated $600,000 at 122 dates in Brazil for the top spot, just ahead of Guess Who's opening of $596,000 on 152 screens.
