This past week we've seen multiple release date changes and announcements for movies like Bel Ami, The Cold Light of Day, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and World War Z, but now it's CBS Films' turn to set up their schedule. According to Box Office Mojo, the studio has officially announced release dates for Gambit, Seven Psychopaths and The Words. First up, Gambit, which is based on a script by Joel and Ethan Coen and directed by Michael Hoffman, will not be arriving in 2012 as originally hoped, but instead will arrive early next year on January 11, 2013. Despite the fact that the movie is still nearly a year away, the choice of date already gives the project still competition, as both Scary Movie 5 and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters are also set to bow on that Friday. The film, a remake of the 1966 Ronald Neame movie, stars Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz...

We have a few new/altered release dates for you today, and sadly each and every one pushes a movie further down on the release date slate rather than allowing you to see those anticipated movies any sooner. First up is World War Z, originally planned for December 21st, 2012 and now planned for June 21st, 2013. By the by, that picture up there is a piece of fantastic concept art for the Battle of Yonkers. Then there's action-thriller The Cold Light Of Day, previously set to be seen...

Both Battleship and The Cold Light of Day get the international treatment in the form of new trailers. First, Battleship essentially melds together the two domestic trailers we've seen thus far with hardly any new footage. Regardless of where you stand with the movie, the editing is pretty crisp. Speaking of crisp editing, The Cold Day of Light takes the domestic trailer released a couple weeks ago and puts it through the editing process for a tighter and much more compelling international trailer. Take a look at them down below. Video: The Cold Light of Day trailer We can't leave out the indies. First up is the promising comedy Must Come Down, starring Ashly Burch and David Fetzer as a couple of unemployed people in the midst of their quarter-life crisis. The...

The Hunger Games sticks with the same imagery it has used thus far while The Cold Light Of Day continues the last poster's not-so-great photoshop trend. Plot recap: In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part...

While the San Diego Comic Con successfully launched the online buzz for films like "300" and "Iron Man", studios have learned the hard way in recent years that sometimes even a big success story in San Diego can have little impact on sales.
High profile film launches from last year like "Tron: Legacy," "Sucker Punch" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" didn't exactly set the box-office on fire, though to be fair "The Green Hornet" and "Red" came out of it looking not too shabby.
Part of the problem is simply over crowding. The convention itself has expanded to the point that in recent years it has painfully struggled to cope with the sheer amount of people in attendance. The studios themselves have been jockeying with each other for prime placement and it has lead to a lot of films which have nothing to do with comics getting pushes at the convention.

We've known for some time that a 3D re-release of James Cameron's Titanic would be hitting theaters, and we had a very good idea that it would be sometime [1] in April 20120. Now the film has a firm release date: April 6, 2012. That date nearly marks the centennial anniversary of the Titanic's maiden voyage (she actually left Southampton for New York on April 10, 1912) and what better way to honor the passengers who died days later than by turning the sinking of the ship into a 3D moneymaking event? Expect to see some release date shuffling taking place for other films that were already set to hit on that weekend (The Cold Light of Day, American Reunion), and perhaps even for other 3D films that were holding nearby dates, like the Clash of the Titans sequel. Read some of Paramount and Fox's very proud press release after the break. (It doesn't...

Opens: April 1st 2011
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Wright
Director: Duncan Jones
Summary: A decorated soldier discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. The experiment is a program that enables him to re-live another man's identity in the last eight minutes of his life which he must do repeatedly to find the truth.
Analysis: Two years ago British filmmaker Duncan Jones delivered his indie debut feature "Moon", a little seen but critically acclaimed sci-fi tale that was essentially Sam Rockwell acting alone or against himself. It was fresh, innovative, somber and overall heralded the arrival of a director to watch out for. After failing to secure funding for his next project, Jones quickly hopped onto the helm of this high-concept action/time travel blockbuster.
Naturally came the calls of Jones being a sell out, after all the...

Scream 4
Opens: April 15th 2011
Cast: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Mary McDonnell, Emma Roberts Director: Wes Craven
Summary: Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with family and friends, but it also brings about the return of Ghostface which puts the whole town in danger.
Analysis: Back in late 1996 when I first began covering film news, "Scream" was released and became more than just a sleeper hit. After years of genre movies being relegated to direct-to-video status, this comedic slasher spawned the biggest surge in the horror film genre since "Halloween" almost two decades before. Its post-modern stylings and witty self-aware dialogue went on to be a big influence on films and television in general.
Yet the "Scream" series itself never could quite capture that glory again. By the time the...

Kaboom
Opens: 2011
Cast: Thomas Dekker, Haley Bennett, Juno Temple, Kelly Lynch, James Duval
Director: Gregg Araki
Summary: Smith's everyday life in the dorm - hanging out with his arty, sarcastic best friend Stella, hooking up with a beautiful free spirit named London, lusting for his gorgeous but dim surfer roommate Thor - all gets turned upside-down after one fateful, terrifying night.
Analysis: A year after "Thelma and Louise" came "The Living End", an independent film which had a similar premise but made the protagonists two gay HIV+ men. It was raw, intense and signalled the arrival of a new talent in the form of filmmaker Gregg Araki. In the subsequent two decades, he's delivered several trippy films involving young, good-looking omnisexual people having lots of graphic sex and dealing with some wacky cobbled together plot shenanigans.

The Hangover: Part Two
Opens: May 26th 2011
Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifinakis, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong
Director: Todd Phillips
Summary: Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned.
Analysis: It really wasn't until about three months before its release that Warner Brothers realised "The Hangover" was going to be a hit. Test screening response was through the roof, while the trailer had great reaction after premiering at ShoWest and online. About that time they commissioned director Todd Phillips, along with his "Old School" and "Road Trip" scribe Scot Armstrong, to pen a sequel. Yet they still waited to see how the first one went before fully committing to the follow-up.
The wait didn't last long.

Damsels in Distress
Opens: 2011
Cast: Adam Brody, Analeigh Tipton, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Ryan Metcalf
Director: Whit Stillman
Summary: The story revolves around a group of style-obsessed college girls who take in a new student (Gerwig) and teach her their misguided ways of helping people at their grungy university.
Analysis: The first film in a decade from arthouse darling Whit Stillman, a filmmaker's filmmaker whose three Manhattan-based, yuppie-themed mannerist comedies - "Metropolitan," "Barcelona" and "The Last Days of Disco" - were a big influence on the likes of auteurs such as Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach. Stillman says this film varies somewhat from his previous trilogy of sorts, telling First Things that "This film is different, Completely different. Summit Entertainment has single-handedly created a cottage industry of attractive young men, from Robert Pattinson to Kellan Lutz, thanks to the sparkly-vampire phenomenon that is Twilight. So presumably they'll just have to draw up some talent from the home team to cast The Cold Light of Day, a thriller they'll be jointly financing with Intrepid Pictures. The movie, according to THR, is about a young American trying to rescue his family after they're kidnapped in Spain, while also unraveling government secrets and his father's own dark past. Sounds like just the job for a well-coiffed Brit who can do an American accent, or maybe a teenage Native American actor with abs of steel. Then again, principal photography is apparently getting started in the spring, which sounds about the right time for filming to start on Breaking Dawn. Hey, Cam Gigandet got killed off in the first movie-- wonder if he's...
