Interestingly developed, superbly acted
Peter_Young17 April 2017
Anjaam starts out as a possible, traditional love story between Vijay and Shivani, which, quite unexpectedly turns into a story of unrequited love followed by intense obsession, ego, sadism and revenge. The story develops at quite a fast pace, with one story twist preceding another, killing every possible trace of romance, much to the complete shock of an unprepared, awestruck audience. This is one of the several formula-defying films a young newcomer named Shahrukh Khan appeared in earlier on in his career, risking future career prospects as a leading actor in a film industry which very often resorts to typecasting and marking slots of villains and comedians.

But it wasn't the case this time around, and it only contributed to the image of this young, highly courageous and talented actor, whose efforts in films like Baazigar, Darr, and this time Anjaam, were applauded all over and only enhanced his stature as a credible star-actor. And one can see why. Khan is tremendous in this role. His Vijay is the nice romantic fool on the surface, but underneath lies the soul of a true monster. And the trick is that this time it's not a caricature, it's a real psycho - an eccentric, capricious brat, whose passion and ego drive him to pull out all the stops to have things done his way. The weird mannerisms, the body language, the delivery and the overall creation of this character are done brilliantly by Khan. No matter how real or unreal it could be, it is immensely entertaining and impressive.

The cynosure, the love interest, the victim, the avenger, and ultimately the leading lady of the film is Madhuri Dixit, a beautiful, principled young woman, whose honesty is but the thing that drives the obsessive antagonist nuts. Roles of avenging angels had by then already become almost a standard in Hindi films, with Rekha setting the bar with her unforgettable daredevil act in Khoon Bhari Maang. The character of Shivani is different in story and execution, and it is not as heroic. That said, Dixit is excellent in a performance that easily ranks amongst the best of her career. The transformation from a charming young lass to a woman hardened by what she had to endure is utterly convincing. One wishes she had accepted more roles like this one in better films.

Which brings me to the next point, and it is the film itself. Sadly Anjaam doesn't completely live up to the quality set by the acting. While the film is greatly entertaining, the execution is often faulty. The prison portions, though gripping at times, are for the most part embarrassingly exaggerated. There is a familiar portrayal of the corrupt law and juridical system, against which no man could ever resist if no money was found at their disposal. Anjaam is directed by Rahul Rawail, a famous director. It is his most eclectic work, and is an unusual Hindi film for its time. For the story it tried to tell, it did very well. A strong story development, a stronger second half (which is a good thing), and an ending which is totally overblown and unbelievable. But it's a good watch in spite of the flaws, and the two central performance make up for many of them anyway.

Very strong woman story
suchenwi11 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Having watched 30-something Indian movies, I may still rank as a beginner, but let me say what I've felt anyway.

Besides the standard fare of song & dance numbers, and comic relief by the transvestite/eunuch threesome, I thought this could be called mostly the Passion of Shivani, and ultimately her elaborate revenge. There were no positive male roles, and SRK came over as one of the most mean men ever. Add the corrupt police officer, the sadist (female) prison warden, the brother-in-law who is served very poetic justice, choking to death on his own money...

...and a cliff-hanger that comes out unexpected, but makes an ultimately convincing END. Heavy drama, with political indication (police, "justice", politicians all get their accusations), and ultimately a very strong experience for this beginner. Of course, reality is something else, but all I wanted was a good show. And I got a very good one.

A Great Film with ATTITUDE!!!!!
Li_8518 June 2006
Anjaam is a Great underrated Movie with attitude. Shah Rukh Khan plays the obsessed phycho lover after Baazigar and Darr. Both were Great Films, Anjaam is another Hit added to his list. Shah Rukh Khan delivers a powerful and great performance. Madhuri Dixit gives another powerful and Superb acting as the women who goes through many bizarre incidents. She gets framed for murder and ends up in a brutal prison. The Prison is used like a brothel in nights, focusing in police corruption. One of the serious Scenes include, when a 9 Months Pregnant Madhuri gets beaten like crazy, she gets whacked in the stomach by the corrupt Police by a stick. Madhuri goes on a quest for revenge, Lots of Violence including the death of her brother in law. Madhuri bites his hand so badly, that his skin comes off.

I expected this to be a romantic movie, with a bad guy that likes a married women. Instead, i see a serious movie that kicks ass. Great acting and madness of a storyline. Worth the watch.

The bride wore a black sari
cnhollywood7 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This film began in a typical bollywood fashion with two attractive leads (Madhuri and Shahrukh) in opposing roles, (and some very enjoyable dance sequences thrown in) until it took a dark turn that I began to recognize from an older French film. I would encourage anyone who hasn't seen "The Bride wore Black" (1968) to see it first. While Anjaam is not a remake, the theme of revenge is handled similarly in the second half... systematic extermination of villains (and there are many of them), but with one very remarkable difference: the shocking level of violence.

Anjaam is unforgettable for me if only for the fact that the female character, played excellently by Madhuri Dixit (usually docile, beautiful, present only for the entertainment of men in her other movies) evolves into an almost superhuman avatar of revenge. And when she finds that she has been robbed of her chance to face her greatest enemy as an equal, she cries, but does not weaken in her resolve.

Shahrukh's character Vijay, while less attractive than his obsessed would be lover role in Darr, is far more realistic in this film. His resolve to "destroy what he cannot have" rings true to life. How many times do we see this kind of choice being made in real life? His violent attack on Shivani makes him a true villain. The ending is a bittersweet tragedy. I recommend it.

Never seen before, and most likely not to be seen again!

I don't get it! Why is it that when "Bollywood" tries to offer something new, its rejected? Unless the ending is so sweet it gives you diabeties the film is quite often a FLOP! As so is the case with Anjaam.

A film like this goes against the typical Bollywood conventions and teaches us new ones. Maybe?!

I don't want to give a synopsis of this film, but to see Dixit in this is such a treat, even for her detractors!

At first, he seems like the typical obnoxious playboy....but then, his really dark side is exposed.
planktonrules19 October 2021
I have seen quite a few Indian films (often from the 1990s) where you have a male protagonist who is a spoiled, rich playboy who falls for a woman....and by the end of the film, he's changed and they fall in love. "Anjaam" looks much like one of these but then instead of the protagonist reforming, this guy becomes dangerous....which is MUCH more realistic than him becoming 'nice' by the end of the story.

Vijay (Shah Rukh Khan) is the obnoxious playboy in this film. He sees Shivani (Madhuri Dixit) on a TV commercial for the airline for which she's a hostess and he's smitten with her. He repeatedly follows her and acts boorish but instead of her falling for this, she marries another man. Does that stop Vijay? Nope...because he's emotionally unstable and twisted...and he will either get her or destroy her. I'll say no more...I don't want to spoil the suspense.

So is the film good or not? Well, it's a bit of both. Since it was made in the 1990s, the acting is a bit less subtle in films you'd see today. The music, also, like older films is a bit dated. Also, the cross-dressing trio just seem way out of place in such a serious film...I was never sure why they were there in the first place. Otherwise, it's a very good, suspenseful and creepy film...and SRK lovers might be surprised at how twisted and sick he is in this one. If you thought he was bad in his gangster films like "Don" or "Raees", well he seems a lot worse and dangerous in "Anjaam"! So, if you are looking for a sweet love story...keep looking! Instead, it's a film with strong feminist vibes...showing how godawful not only Vijay can be but the rest of the men in the story as well.

By the way, there are at least two other Indian films called "Anjaam" which came out before this one. It turns out neither have anything to do with this film other than the titles.

Also by the way, can a judge in India really sentence a person to prison without hearing all the evidence or allowing a jury to decide the case? This part of the film really confused me.

Strong performances by both the leads
mayank_78226 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Vijay Agnihotri(Shahrukh) is a rich spoilt guy who is in love with Shivani Chopra(Madhuri Chopra). But Shivani gets married to Ashok, which drives Vijay mad. Shahrukh here plays a repellent, unredeemable character. He is intensely fuelled by passion and wants to marry Shivani at all costs. He goes to all lengths to achieve that, even killing. The second part of the film even shows the atrocities inflicted upon women. The storyline though isn't perfect and suffers from loopholes.

Performance wise, both the leads deliver good performance, especially Shahrukh Khan. The musical score is rather average and sometimes seems unneeded in a film like this.

Powerful
phoenix1861-131 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't like this film initially, because it IS rather violent in the second half. The only thing I did like from the start was the "Badi Mushkil Hai" song, which is absolutely great. And the unpredictable ending. I didn't like it per se, story-wise, just the fact that there are all these twists. I was kinda hoping for redemption and stuff... though I knew that it would have been implausible after everything that had happened.

I re-watched the film and it strangely grew on me. It's now among my favorites because of its complexity. It's really interesting from the psychological point of view. Did Vijay love Shivani or was it pure whim? I think the latter... Was Vijay really nuts and psychotic or just spoiled rotten? Shivani insists that he's just an idiot but Shahrukh definitely played him as not quite normal. How is it that he manages to evoke sympathy even for such a diabolical character? Was Shivani at least partly to be blamed for what happened to her? I'd never think so (the "blame the victim" attitude) but the lyrics in the "Chane Ke Khet Mein" song are a bit strange. And then those words she says to her sister at the beginning of the film: "Don't blame the fate. Sometimes a person can lose their life because of one wrong step". (don't remember the correct phrasing) I basically think it was the combination of unfortunate circumstances and her "no-nonsense, stand up for oneself" character.

The film is full of foreshadowing, subtext, and I liked its stance on the position of women.

So... SRK is brilliant, Madhuri is brilliant, songs are great, there aren't many unnecessary scenes (I actually love Johnny Lever here, ... singing "Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein" from Baazigar). It's a really interesting and powerful movie.

Unique but not without flaws!
WorldMovie9922 September 2020
It's a terrific movie, unique content, unique characters seem real and fused with violence throughout. Unconventional storyline keeps the viewers engaging. Its storytelling is a bit raw and flow halting. But you will get the content as unique. A revenge story marked by unique features not seen in any other movies of Bollywood. Only thing it missed is the maturity of presentations. Presented very raw, and childish but still a treat to watch.

Vijay is egoistic, a kinda egoistic at psycho level. Shibani is a normal women with feminine qualities. Through various circumstances both turn enemies and their enemity is all about the film. It's well organized as a depiction of a women personified as Goddess destroying demons personified as others. Violence is justified highly in the film as evident from the song "Pratisodh ki jwalamukhi". The lead casts are exact to the role, with others being also fine. The negative characters are well appealing to reality , including jailer and her lover. You should skip a few songs until first half.

The movie is about injustices done by Vijay to Shibani and bloody revenge by Shibani upon Vijay and his friends. The film seems kinda loosely understood like both Shibani Vijay duo as the couple who lived as enemies and died together. Both always are challenging to one another, both had to love one another atleast in their lifetime. Shibani who out of desperation had to love and care him in order to recover him only to kill him later on. And Vijay had to kill her family jn order to make her desperate for his support. Such a wonderful metaphorical but violence ridden revenge story with a strong contender for unique masterpiece. But it didn't get progressed in that line of thought. Nevertheless it retained itself a simple story of good vs bad with unconventional lead roles. This makes it a unique film but with also significant flaws.

A 63/100.

Plan 9 from India
jrbleau21 September 2007
If this movie is rated 6.6, I can only suppose that Indian movies are rated on their own scale, as their viewers' demographic is different. On the same scale by which Deliverance is rated 7.2, however, this movie would not rate higher than 3.

The suspension of disbelief is staggering. The fight scenes, a major weak point in the several Indian movies I have seen, are worse than those in cheap '60s TV productions in the West (yet, Oriental expertise in staging fight scenes is right at their doorstep – Bollywood: use that resource and master it). Except for the somewhat inconsistent Shivani, the cast is a bunch of one-note caricatures. Events are opportunistic plot-wise, (for example, fires springing up according to the needs of the story rather than as a consequence of previous events, or an antagonist being inexplicably alone and helpless so that the protagonist can wreak revenge), and I can't for the life of me understand what the transvestites have to do with the story.

I guess all the above can be explained away as serving the needs of symbolism, that the movie is not to be taken literally, etc, but that is a lazy way out. A little more realism and consistency is a matter of better writing. This laughable production is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Though I'm tempted to give it 2 stars, I'm giving it 3 because it overturns one of the conventions in Indian movies.

Anyone wanting an introduction to Indian movies will swear off the whole genre if he begins with this one. Try the excellent Dil Se.. instead.

Wow
malaewa23 April 2006
Obviously this film is not even B class; to be honest, I don't think there are enough letters even in Devanagari to explain it's class.

Yet, it is absolutely fantastic. A must-see for a Bollywood fan, an absolute-must-see for a SRK fan.

Personally I just love SRK's roles as villains, those faces he makes... ahhh...

The story in this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end (just as it says at on the back of the DVD;) ) Madhuri is stunningly beautiful even after her, how to call it..., rebirth ;) (exept one tiny scene - the arm-teeth scene i'd call it, not to write a spoiler, which is also rather surprising) There are some fine songs (the one on the airport and the one on the wheel-chair) but the most important quality of this movie is that it's so surprising all the way.

Plus the obsessive love motive is always great to watch.

10/10 for sure (in it's category of course)

Could have been better
amhhbs13 December 2021
The execution, editing and direction brings down an interesting story and great performances from Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit.

Shahrukh is despicable, intense and surprisingly different from his other villainous characters. Madhuri is great in her happy, sad and violent states. Even the different twists and turns can keep you at the edge of your seat.

I am well aware that Bollywood movies especially older ones are sometimes weirdly edited. However this one was worse than usual. Scenes that required some patience would abruptly end and scenes that should have been cut lingered far too long.

Though I feel a little disappointed at the potentially great film this could have been, I still mostly enjoyed it.

Tried to repeat success of Darr and Baazigar - but failed miserably
srirammeera25 September 2021
Mostly a Madhuri movie SRK looks as if the pure villain role was thrust on him - and I guess he realized it too as it was his last major purely negative role.

No logic in the movie at all not that much is expected in a Hindi masala movie.

But this one is irredeemable - and continuously dark and violent without much lighter moments and the music except for maybe a couple of songs is a failure too.

Eminently worth skipping and saving yourself time!!!!

The Bravest step taken in bollywood
shounak932523 September 2021
Nobody could have imagined the Casting of srk & madhuri for the 1st time, but not in a love story, but in a vengeance drama. That too srk as the villain in a woman centric film. This thought itself deserves an applaude. Some movies are beyond the limits of their box office verdict & needs to be given respect forever. Anjaam is one of those honorable films which the audience couldnt accept at the time of release due to the shock, but they can never deny the impact of it. Srk has not become what he is today just like that. He will be remembered as the most versatile & audacious actor in future. Madhuri dixit is a naturally talented actress & she shocked everyone with her brilliant performance in this film. This one should achieve cult status now.

A violently brilliant film, with incredible acting by Shahrukh khan
babykiller301 November 2002
This is one of SRK's BEST movies, his acting, as usual, is flawless, and I sit back in amazement, and think "I could not do that". He is just perfect in the film, you can't but help feeling incredibly sorry for him, and incredibly angry at Madhuri, some scenes are disturbing, but they only add to the movies brilliant storyline, I have seen many Indian and English movies, but I have never seen any like Baazigar, Darr and Anjaam, coincidentally they all have Shahrukh Khan in them, he is just the BEST, never have movies been made like these, and never has there been an amazingly terrific actor like Shahrukh Khan, who NO other actor in the WORLD can compare too, there is just NO comparision between him and ANY other actor. There is not a single moment of boredom in this movie, you can't take your eyes off it. It is just terrific, along with the acting.

If sadistic violence against women is your thing....
dmul532 May 2003
Warning: Spoilers
then Anjaam will be a winning experience. This film features Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood's favorite lover-boy, in his third role as a villain. First he was the psychotic-but-lovable stalker in Darr, and then the vengeful-but-lovable wife-killer in Baazigar, and then the anything-but-lovable murderer in Anjaam.

This time around his character has no redeeming qualities at all, other than being kind of cute in the first 20 minutes or so of the film, before it devolves into a sick marathon of seeing how many sadistic beatings the heroine can endure before she turns and exacts her equally sadistic revenge.

I must say that it was somewhat satisfying to see Madhuri Dixit in yet another strong, heroic role, which she excells at, but it took her two excruciating, gratuitously violent hours to finally stand up for herself. And I'll admit, with a little guilt, that after all the torture that this film had put her (and me) through, I was looking forward to seeing exactly how Shivani (Dixit) would get even with Vikram (Khan), so I was disappointed that she didn't take better advantage of her opportunities at the end when Viki was helpless in a wheelchair after the car accident that had taken her child's life. If it had been me in her place, I could have thought of dozens of creative ways to do him in. If fact, by the time this film was over, I was ready to exact a little revenge of my own...on the director.

Anjaam is another example of Bollywood run amok with excessive violence and gore. Sometimes they just don't know when to say "enough!" Not my cup of chai, I'm afraid.

Terrible women-centric movie!
chiremath1 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When I watched Anjaam for the first time, I was very shocked to see every scene! I would share some spoilers, so you would be shocked! The first half of the movie was okay, but the second half of the movie was dark, violent, scary, horrible, and ridiculous! I was so shocked to see Shah Rukh Khan as a villain! I liked his negative roles in Baazigar, Darr, and Duplicate because his performance was very awesome. However I didn't really like his role because he played the darkest villain role in the history of Indian cinema! He was darker and scarier than a typical movie villain, so I never liked his role in this movie! Madhuri Dixit was the true main character and protagonist of Anjaam, and this movie was entirely focused on her entire life! I really loved her roles in Mrityudand, Tezaab, Dil, Prem Granth, Hum Apke Hai Koun, Raja, Beta, Ram Lakhan, Pukar, and Lajja, however I didn't like her role in this movie! I was so shocked when Madhuri Dixit became too violent and killed people, who ruined her life! Her true enemy was actually Shah Rukh Khan, who wanted to marry her badly and acted like a romantic psychopath. When she rejected him several times, Shah Rukh Khan decided to ruin her life by killing her husband and her loved ones. When she still decided to reject him, he violently injured her several times and framed her that she had to go to prison! She faced hardships in prison and decided to take revenge once she was out of prison! This movie showed the terrible treatment of women in prison, and I was so shocked when a police officer had to kick Madhuri Dixit so much that she had a miscarriage! I was so sad to see her like this! Anyway, it was a great thing for Madhuri Dixit to be a brave woman and avenge the deaths of her loved ones. But I didn't expect her to be too violent! After she killed her enemies, she tried to kill Shah Rukh Khan in the climax! The climax was very terrible because the ending was obviously sad and bad! Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan fought each other, but they died at the end! I was very happy that a crazy psychopath like Shah Rukh Khan died, but I was very shocked and sad that a brave and beautiful woman like Madhuri Dixit died too! The ending could have been amazing if the main protagonist didn't die! I would have been very happy if Madhuri Dixit killed Shah Rukh Khan, survived at the end of the movie, and decided to start a new life! Anjaam was one of the worst women-centric movies of Bollywood, and it was worse that Mrityudand that had a good ending! Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan's performances were decent, but the director could have made this movie like Darr. Darr was actually good and wasn't too dark since it had a good ending. The positive things in the movie were Madhuri Dixit's gorgeous performance in Chane Khet Mein song, Johnny Lever's funny performance, and few romantic scenes! The remaining things in the movie were dark and horrible! I would not recommend this movie to families since Anjaam was a dark movie, and kids would be so scared to see the violent scenes of the main characters and bad climax! I loved Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan's romantic drama movies like Dil To Pagal Hai, Koyla, Hum Tumhare Hai Sanam, and Devdas because they loved each other! However, they hated and fought each other in Anjaam! Overall, I never liked Anjaam so much! Now, I want to say that this movie has bad direction, dark scenes, terrible storyline, horrible characters, and terrible climax! Anjaam is worse than a regular dark movie! Don't watch this movie unless you are huge fans of Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan! Even though I am a huge fan of Madhuri Dixit, her role is not good! Shah Rukh Khan's performance in Darr is still amazing and watchable, so his role in Anjaam is not good! So, this is my honest review of Anjaam!

Exhausting
CriticGirl9123 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The intensity of atrocity in this movie took me aback. I did not expect the story to turn the way it did when I saw the typical Hindi film beginning of dance and teasing.

I liked it initially when Shahrukh's obsession and cruelty made for an engaging plot. I was wrapped into knowing his every other move. But after Deepak Tijori is ruthlessly killed by SRK, the movie went terribly downhill.

I do understand SRK's antisocial personality, and do not deny that it is very possible in the real world. But why the fascination with Madhuri? That could have been explored a little more rather than giving weight age to the many vulgar songs that appear throughout the film. Then, it would have been as interesting as Darr.

Madhuri's revenge is too easily attained which makes it highly unbelievable. Also, the movie is very high on violence and cringe, which does not make for family viewing.

As for the performances, Madhuri is exceptional, and this movie only shows why she is such a celebrated actor of our nation. SRK is excellent, but his performance did not warrant a big award. Deepak Tijori and Himani Shivpuri are utterly wasted.

All in all, the movie had great potential, given that it was willing to depict issues in utter realism. But what it turned out to be was an overstretched melodrama with unnecessary takes on an ideal woman, and a story of the extreme melancholic type. Not a hopeful movie, this one.

SRK Steals The Show!
ikky_k8 October 2006
I see that there already a few reviews but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in as well.

Given that the movie was done was in 1994, it's obvious to the viewer that Shah Rukh's star was on the rise. Despite the average hair cut and the negative nature of his role, he still delivers charisma and charm in the role.

Despite his immense success with romantic lead roles (Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai etc) it would be great to see SRK do more negative roles.

(The forthcoming Don will be a refreshing change).

On the same level as "Enough" and 'Sleeping with the Enemy"
persian-belle31 July 2018
Not only I'm a Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit fan, but as a woman I particularly appreciated this film as it depicts the sad condition that many women in the world are in. Maltreatment of women by women and even often the judiciary system which is mainly male. It's difficult to watch but it's an eye-opener to many man who can hardly see beyond their own desires and ignore the consequences of their selfish and/or obsessive behaviours. One of SRK's best performances in my opinion.

Everybody dies. I mean everybody.
zorch-228 March 1999
Warning: Spoilers
This is a movie of extremes. I don't think any moviemaker here would dare to make this baby. It is a real hoot where everyone with a speaking part snuffs it with the exception of four. I can only assume they fled the set or they ran out of film. Filmed in cliche-ville rather than Bombay, this is a film that is past parody , as if done by Saturday Night Live & Mad TV together. The acting is first rate, the dancing of the best, and the plot is unforgettable {or unforgivable} Rush to your nearest Indian grocery and rent this baby ,and squat down and watch this beauty because it is one of a kind. Must be seen to believe such a film could exist. The out-takes of this film should be worth a million R.s as no one could have had a straight face and I bet they were laughing totally. If you think this movie is bad, rent "Madam X" (The Indian magazine 'Stardust' voted it the worst movie ever made} It was the only film in history where they didn't use a takeup reel{as it ran through the projector, they just let it flutter to the floor.

Watc It Once!
the_birs2 April 2008
After a long time of hesitation I've been watching this movie last night.

Now my impressions about it: I didn't like the scenario neither the actors's play. I think it's too much: Baazigar, Darr and this one all talking topic: a man deeply in love with deep mental problems! For some reasons I don't like movies when SRK plays the psycho pat rules. Not that he's not convincing, just that he's better in more "normal" and normally romantic way (without being a killer or a psycho pat for as much".

About Madhuri Dixit, she's a good actor yet for some reasons I don't like that much her way of acting in this movie (maybe not convincing that much).

Any way watch this movie only one time ..no more.

My vote: 5/10.

Madhuri is sensuous, alluring and enchanting...

This film is perhaps one of the better films to have come out of "Bollywood" in the mid 90s. Bearing in mind that Hum Aapke Hain Koun came out in the same year it showed the versatility of one of India's finest actresses... I am of course talking about Madhuri Dixit! So the plot may be a little far stretched and the sub plots may be a little distracting (referring to the transvestites) but all in all what a powerful film! "Bollywood" is accustomed to certain codes and conventions so lets not forget we are watching a film from a completely different arena (compared to Hollywood).

Now to the songs (a key feature of any "Bollywood" film)... Badi Mushkil Hai, Channe Ke Khet mein, Tu samne jab aata hai and Barson ki baad - all top notch! Maybe its become common knowledge now but Barson ki baad was taken in one single shot! That doesn't happen often now does it?! Madhuri is sensuous, alluring and enchanting in her seduction...nothing is vulgar about this - can't say that about the heroines of today!

I don't think you have to be a fan of either Shah Rukh or Madhuri to appreciate this unique film... However, one does ponder if their performances were the real pull for this film - I can't imagine anyone else in their place!

Final thought: if you are sick of the stuff "Bollywood" is churning out these days - go back to the 90's and make sure you pay Anjaam a visit!
