Tkay Maidza has shared another preview of her upcoming sophomore album Sweet Justice with the new single “Wuacv.” Along with it, she’s unveiled a run of album release shows in the US and Europe.
An acronym for “woke up and chose violence,” “Wuacv” is a biting revenge anthem. Over its ominous, blaring instrumentals, Maidza both flaunts her success and warns her enemies, likening her artistic prowess to that of Jean-Michel Basquiat and her thirst for blood to Freddy Krueger’s. As she explains in a press release: “I wanted to write a song where I could express my bubbling anger toward people who had manipulated me during the last phase of my life.” The song arrives with an accompanying Bel Downie-directed music video, which features Maidza with various weapons, dangerously sharp jewelry, and a muzzle.

I will 100% admit that I’ve talked plenty of trash in my athletic days. It’s a natural part of the game and when you’re on the basketball court or any court for that matter, things can get pretty heated. I personally think it’s alright to out your emotions to some degree. The degree I’m speaking of is not getting too personal and not offending anyone too much. I’ve always respected my opponents and try to approach the game with at least some level of respect and dignity. However, there are tons of people out there who don’t care about sportsmanship

As I'm sure you've all heard by now (even if you didn't watch last night's live broadcast), Viola Davis made history, becoming the first black woman to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Incredible when you consider that this was the 67th edition of the aging institution. Some would say, better late than never; for others, it's about damn time! This comes after just 5 previous nominations for black actresses in that specific category - Debbie Allen, Alfre Woodard, Regina Taylor, Cicely Tyson, and Kerry Washington for "Fame," "St. Elsewhere," "I'll Fly Away," "Sweet Justice," and "Scandal"...

There was lots to cheer about and lots to jeer about with the announcement of the 2015 Emmy nominations Thursday, and tucked in among the usual snubs and surprises was a bit of history surrounding the nods for Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson.
The actresses, who are both up for the Best Leading Actress award in the drama category for "How to Get Away with Murder" and "Empire," respectively, are now the first two African-Americans to be nominated in that category in the same year. That bit of trivia aside, both Davis and Henson could make even more history during the ceremony should one of them snag the statuette.
According to TheWrap, an African-American has never won that particular award at the Emmys, and the likelihood of women of color even getting a nomination in that category has, sadly, been even more remote. The trade traces that stat's origins back...

Congrats to Kerry Washington (Lead Actress In A Drama Series) and Don Cheadle (Lead Actor In A Comedy Series) for their Primtetime Emmy nominations (specific categories in parentheses), announced just moments ago. This marks Kerry Washington's first ever Emmy nomination, and the first time a black actress has been nominated in that category (Lead Actress In A Drama Series) since the 1994-95 season (the 47th annual Primetime Emmys) when Cicely Tyson was nominated for her work in the NBC legal drama series Sweet Justice. Interestingly, Sweet Justice would run for just one season. And Tyson didn't win. She lost to Kathy Baker for her work in Picket Fences. Note: a black...

One of the raps on the Emmys is that they offer up a lot of the same nominees every year. In a lot of cases it's deserved -- while it would make no sense to stop honoring shows and performers that can sustain their quality over multiple seasons, it often feels like worthy newer shows are shut out in favor of the same old stuff.
That will likely be the case at least in part when the nominations for this year's Emmys are announced Thursday (July 18). Amid the very likely and totally expected repeat nominations for the likes of "Breaking Bad," "Modern Family" and "Downton Abbey," there will probably be a few surprises. Here are some of Zap2it's picks for performers and shows that could make a breakthrough at this year's Emmys. (For more of what we hope to see, check out Zap2it's Emmy Wishlist posts.)

Look closely at Gold Derby's chart tracking the Emmy race for Best Drama Actress and you'll discover something curious. Kerry Washington ("Scandal") is the only leading contender on the upswing. According to the experts' predictions, Claire Danes ("Homeland") and Julianna Margulies ("The Good Wife") may be ahead, but their mojo is tracking down while third-placed Kerry Washington is trending up. Three experts boldly forecast her victory: Lynette Rice (Entertainment Weekly), Ken Tucker and me. See how she's ranked by all of our experts here. If she makes the official Emmy list, she'll become only the fifth African-American woman to be nominated for Best Drama Actress. Previous contenders: Debbie Allen (“Fame”; 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985), Alfre Woodard (“St. Elsewhere”; 1986), Regina Taylor (“I’ll Fly Away”; 1992, 1993) and Cicely Tyson (“Sweet Justice”; 1995). Kerry Washington could soon make Emmy history – twice. As the star of ABC’s political thriller "Scandal," she is poised to become the fifth African American actress ever nominated for Best Drama Actress. And, if she goes the distance in September, Washington could become the first to win. -Insertgroups:12- Debbie Allen cracked this glass celling for her role on the syndicated musical drama “Fame” with a bid in 1982 and contended three more times. In 1986, Emmy darling Alfre Woodard was nominated for “St. Elsewhere”. Six years later, Regina Taylor received the first of two consecutive bids for her work on the family drama “I’ll Fly Away”. And in 1995, Cicely Tyson was cited for the short-lived legal drama “Sweet Justice”. 2012 was a career-defining year for Washington. In addition to a supporting role in Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-winning spaghetti western homage “Dj...

Actor Greg Germann is coming to CBS. The Ally McBeal alum has just earned himself a recurring role on the popular series, NCIS.
Germann is gearing up to play Jerome Craig. The new NCIS character is the deputy director of the unit and serves under Vance. Germann wears a suit well, as we all remember when he was an Ally McBeal lawyer.
Most recently Germann appeared on the Showtime network series House of Lies. We also saw his work on Common Law and Drop Dead Diva.
NCIS boss, Gary Glasberg told TV Line, “I’ve been a big fan of Greg’s going back to Ally McBeal and [the mid-'90s legal drama] Sweet Justice, and he’s a gifted actor with incredible timing and a wonderful sense of humor. Playing the NCIS Deputy Director means carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders. He’s really going to bring the character of Jerome Craig to life.

Following the news that ABC will not be ordering additional episode of freshman drama Eastwick, costar Lindsay Price (pictured) has been named a suspected show killer. Though undeniably adorable, the actress has a long rap sheet of failed TV shows that also includes NBC's Lipstick Jungle, Pepper Dennis, and Coupling. Which other actors are on TV's Most Wanted (and Least Lucky) List? Our top offenders: • Jason Gedrick: Truly impressive versatility in terms of the number of networks he's failed on. Victims include: Fox's Class of '96; CBS' Sweet Justice, Ez Streets, and Falcone; ABC's Murder One and The Beast; and NBC's Boomtown and Windfall.

There is a spirited debate in the forums about whether Angela Bassett of "ER" should put herself forward in the lead or supporting category at this year's Emmy Awards. The Oscar-nominated actress ("What's Love Got to Do With It") has joined the cast of the NBC medical drama as attending physician Cate Banfield for the final season of its 15-year run. Were she to get a lead nod and then win, Angela Bassett would make Emmy history as the first African American actress to prevail for a regular lead role on a drama series.
"ER" has won 22 of its record 122 Emmy nominations. However, only one of those Emmys went to a series regular — Julianna Margulies as supporting actress for the first season in 1995. And the last series regular to be nominated was Maura Tierney in that same category in 2001. But, as forum moderator Darrin "DoubleD" Dortch points out, "'ER's' buzz has skyrocketed.

Almost 30 years after she hit stardom with NBC's Little House on the Prairie, Melissa Gilbert is returning to the old frontier with ABC's midseason one-hour project Then Came Jones. The current SAG president has been tapped to play the female lead opposite Sean Patrick Flanery in the period Western drama from writer-producers Chris Brancato and Bert Salke and Touchstone Television, which has a commitment for a pilot plus three scripts from the network. Kim Manners (The X-Files) has come aboard to direct the pilot, which is scheduled to begin production next month in Los Angeles. In the project, set at the turn of the 20th century, Gilbert will play the sister of Ben Jones (Flanery), who, in a series of strange plot twists, becomes the sheriff of the border town of El Paso, Texas. Jsu Garcia previously was cast as El Fuego, Jones' best friend (HR 10/18). If Jones goes into series, it will be Gilbert's first since the 1994 NBC drama Sweet Justice. In 2000, she toplined the WB Network's pilot Finally Home. Gilbert, who has been a regular on the TV movie circuit, is repped by WMA and manager Marc Schwartz.
