A Classic...
namashi_117 October 2009
As a kid I remember being a big fan of 'Shatranj', the first reason being I love Mithun Chakraborty since then & the second it being an entertaining flick.

I was fascinated with the car, the monkey, the combo of Kader Khan-Mithun-Jackie Shroff-Shakti Kapoor. Me and my friends have been big time fans of this 1993 family entertainer since are school days.

There is a romantic song between Mithun & Juhi Chawla 'Dil Pe Tere Pyar Ka' which truly remains a classic. The jokes between Mithun and Shakti Kapoor were really funny.

Late Divya Bharti also starred in the film and did a good job. Juhi Chawla is also good, but the show belongs to Mithun completely.

'Shatranj' remains a classic for me and will always be. Two Thumbs Up!

Nice romantic comedy

This movie is a great entertainer and has remained a classic for me

The film is like CHALTI KE NAAM GADI (1958) remade with KaderKhan- JackieShroff-MithunChakraboty with an Indian Herbie type of car and a trained monkey Divya Bharti and Juhi Chawla play the love interests of Jackie and Mithun The film also has a side story with the mystery behind Kader Khan's hatred for women which goes way back to the childhood of the three brothers

Direction and music are both nice with the "Dil Pe Tera Pyar Ka" remaining a classic The film also has several comedy sequences

The show belongs to Mithun with his humor for girls and his pranks His scenes shared with Shakti Kapoor are funny Kader Khan is elegant Jackie Shroff remains a gentleman with the ladies The girls are all good Shakti Kapoor is great Kiran Kumar rocks all the way

Vintage 90s gold!

If you're looking for a meaningful story, layered performance, cinematic vision, character arcs etc., move on... you're on the wrong page. What Shatranj offers is the kind of unabashed equal opportunity plagiarism that died with the 90s. This movie has it all - the Kumar brothers classic Chalti Ka Naam Gadi remade with 50-something Kader Khan, 40- something Mithun & the cherubic 30-something Jackie Shroff playing brothers with conviction and elan, and all of them beaten fair and square by the most emotive Chimpanzee in moviedom, a know-it-all car, two of the cutest young actresses of that time (why don't we have cute heroines anymore? Lead actresses aren't even allowed to put on weight before they are Balan years old), Jackie & Divya trotting about on red carpets... and all that within just the 7 minutes of the movie that I managed to watch! My new mission in life is to find any scene from any movie in any language of any country in the world that can measure up against a heartbroken Kader Khan breaking into tears in the arms of the aforementioned Chimp... wish me luck.
