This is one of the best documentaries ever made on Tibetan Buddhism and reincarnation. The luminescent photography, the jaw-dropping locations and the incredible central character - a child reincarnated as the main lama of a Tibetan temple in India - were stated by Scorsese as key inspirations for his treatment of the Dalai Lama's life in 'Kundun'. Absolutely essential viewing. Tenzing Sonam and Ritu Sarin have made a number of excellent films about Tibetans in exile and the history of Tibet. Their documentary, The Shadow Circus, is a fascinating documentary about the CIA's involvement in the Tibetans' rebellion against the Chinese occupation of Tibet in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Their latest offering, Dreaming Lhasa, produced by Jeremy Thomas, is a feature film, a fictional but true-to-life account of the Tibetans' experience in exile in India. Go see it!
