One of the very few franchises that have been able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Star Wars since the dawn of the modern science fiction era in cinema is Star Trek and it has been a battle worthy of being dubbed as the Space Race of Hollywood. However, where Star Wars has remained at the top of its game since the advent of A New Hope, the same cannot be said for its contemporary show, The Next Generation.

The cast of the original series, who then came to the rescue, then makes up for a nice story worthy of being regaled for future generations of Trekkies.

The Fallout series has been a huge success and proves once again how live-action adaptations of video games are not a bad idea after all. Following in the footsteps of Halo and The Last of Us, the TV show has become one of the best-performing releases on its respective platforms, and the showrunners have teased how the fun has just begun.
The Fallout TV Series has proven to be a huge success
While the series is getting praised for its excellent world-building and the great understanding of its source material, it is still missing a lot of elements, including Deathclaws, something which co-showrunner Graham Wagner has revealed the studio is looking forward to adding soon in the coming seasons.

Plot: Kora (Sofia Boutella) and the rebels she recruited prepare to battle with the full force of Atticus Noble’s (Ed Skrein) Imperium.
Review: I took a bit of heat for my positive review of Rebel Moon Part One a few months ago, but I make no apologies for the fact that I found it an immersive, entertaining epic. I liked it a lot more than the last few Star Wars movies (particularly The Rise of Skywalker). So, I was eager to see the story reach its conclusion with Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver. While an entertaining, action-packed end to the saga, it’s also a clear-cut case of why Snyder’s longer director’s cuts should have been the only ones hitting Netflix. Even more than in the first film, this feels awkwardly fast-paced and anti-climactic at times due to the story having no room to breathe.

A new movie just came out from Zack Snyder, the divisive but provocative director who has inspired legions of passionate and loyal fans online, but it hardly feels like anyone outside of the internet knows or even cares much. Perhaps that's the peril of falling into the streaming trap, where name-brand talents receive sky-high budgets for productions that no traditional studio is willing to support ... only to be promptly forgotten once its brief time in Netflix's weekly Top 10 reports comes and goes. Full disclosure: It's downright strange to have been able to see "Rebel Moon: Part Two - The Scargiver" in a theater and base this review on that experience, particularly when the vast majority of those reading this will never have the same opportunity. Yet it's stranger still that the film we've received, from a visionary auteur whose battles with corporate overlords during his tenure in the DC...

Black Panther | EA’s upcoming game will be a ‘sandbox’ that takes in cities and natural environments
An upcoming Black Panther game, in the works at EA’s Cliffhanger Games, will be a ‘sandbox’ according to a job listing.
This isn’t necessarily a massive surprise, given that few would expect a Black Panther game to be a farming sim, but EA’s upcoming videogame will be some sort of ‘sandbox’ according to a job listing.
Listed on EA’s own website, the detail is right up there in the job title: Principle Sandbox Designer. The role will require the design and prototyping of “gameplay mechanics that contribute to a rich sandbox environment.”
The listing, first reported by Vgc, also reveals that the game will take place in both cities and more natural environments that will potentially be filled with simulated animals. The successful candidate, EA writes, will “create sophisticated AI behaviours that enhance the open-world experience, from urban crowds to wildlife ecosystems.”

After the raids on Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ homes in Miami and Los Angeles last week, his longtime nemesis, rapper 50 Cent, said he would produce a documentary about his nemesis.
The rivalry is connected to Combs dating 50 Cent’s ex, Daphne Joy. Joy is the mother of 50 Cent’s 11-year-old son, Sire Jackson.
A new $30 million sexual assault lawsuit against Combs brought by record producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones claimed that Joy was Combs “sex worker,” adding a further wrinkle to the drama.
The 73-page lawsuit is only one of three recently filed against Combs.
The suit also stated that Jones was subject to a year of groping without his consent and “constant unsolicited touching” of his private areas.
Combs and Jackson have a long-lasting rivalry that dates back over 20 years.

Since its debut 1966, Star Trek has been about boldly going forward. And no Star Trek series has gone further forward than Discovery. After a rocky first few seasons set about a decade before The Original Series, Discovery found its place by jumping to the 32nd century, farther into the future than any other entry in the franchise.
As Discovery prepares to end its mission with its fifth and final season, fans might be wondering what’s next for the 32nd century and the TV franchise as a whole. With Strange New Worlds staying in Disco’s original pre-tos era and Lower Decks and Prodigy exploring the period after the Next Generation movie Nemesis, Disco’s exit seems to leave the 32nd century unexplored.
But not so fast, says Star Trek executive producer Alex Kurtzman. “I think you can expect more of [Discovery’s] 32nd century,” Kurtzman teases in an exclusive interview for...

“I can’t believe I get to play the captain of the Enterprise.”
Anson Mount is sitting across from me on one of the Toronto soundstages for the Paramount+ series “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” which is set in the years when his character, Capt. Christopher Pike, led the legendary Federation starship with a young Spock and Uhura. We’re speaking on the sleek Enterprise bridge, and Mount is recounting the out-of-body experience he had the first time he sat in the iconic captain’s chair. “I had this immediate flashback to playing ‘Star Trek’ as a kid,” he says. “I don’t think a day goes by where I don’t at some point stop and think to myself, ‘I’m on fucking “Star Trek.”’”
“Strange New Worlds” is the 12th “Star Trek” TV show since the original series debuted on NBC in 1966, introducing Gene Roddenberry’s vision of a hopeful future for humanity.

BioShock creator Ken Levine has shown off some new gameplay details for his upcoming Judas to select outlets, and the old BioShock DNA is unmistakeable.
There’s an awful lot of chat about “narrative Lego” in the various news posts swirling around about Judas, the next game from BioShock designer Ken Levine. It’s a phrase Levine first brought up about a decade ago when he first started talking publicly about his first project since 2013’s BioShock Infinite, and is shorthand for the way Judas uses discrete blocks of plot to construct a unique story for each player.
Over the past few weeks or so, Levine’s new studio, Ghost Story Games, has invited a couple of journalists from big, posh outlets to sample Judas first-hand. Both IGN's Ryan McCaffrey and The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley have made videos in which they interview Ken Levine and play through his ambitious-sounding action-adventure.

The rivalry between former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) and his nemesis, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), is boiling over again.
McCarthy recently accused Gaetz of being dishonest about his relationship with former President Donald Trump and about his personal life.
“Has there ever been any conversations between you and the former president about Matt Gaetz and his decision to throw you out,” a reporter asked McCarthy recently. “Was he supportive of that?”
“I don’t know how close you probably think the president is to Gaetz, but you should figure that out,” the former house speaker replied.
“They’re not actually that close,” another reporter asked.
“He makes it out – Gaetz makes it out to be like they’re –,” they added before being interrupted by the ex-House speaker.
“I’m sure,” McCarthy stated. “Gaetz probably makes a lot out – but he probably lies about who he sleeps with, too.”

As /Film's resident wrestling obsessive, I've written quite a bit about how sports entertainment is a formative piece of how I process the media I consume, as well as waxing poetic about my appreciation for the Adonis and Venus mortals that walk amongst us on shows like "American Gladiator." I'm of the mindset that if a person must self-proclaim they are an expert, chances are, they are not. So while I will not claim to be an expert, I will say that my knowledge of cinema featuring pumped-up women and brawny babes is, uh, stronger than most.
Sure, there are plenty of films that feature swole ladies for a one-off visual gag or a background character, but there aren't many films that allow women who are jacked to the gills to take center stage. Sometimes, the films are specifically about these towering muscle mommies, and sometimes they're just action films...

As the dawn of the new millennium approached, the world would start to see a trend of films that would become very mainstream. These types of movies are action horror video game adaptations. As stated in our previous video, there have been a number of different ones, but nothing stood out more than Resident Evil. In 2002, we were graced with the first in this series. It may not have been the critic’s favorite, but it did well enough at the box office to spawn a sequel. The name of that sequel is Resident Evil: Apocalypse (watch it Here). With a title that big, you would think the filmmakers went for bigger, better and more destructive…right? For the most part, yes and they even packed in some surprises for fans of the series. So today on Horror Revisited we ask that you suit up and strap in for Alice...

Do you remember how great it felt when Jean-Luc Picard stepped onto the bridge of the restored USS Enterprise-d, with all the members of his senior staff around him and ready for one last adventure? Remember how much better that was than watching Icheb from Voyager get mutilated or watching Picard ride dune buggies in Star Trek: Nemesis? Patrick Stewart does not.
In a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Stewart talked about an upcoming Star Trek movie centered on at least part of the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast. “I heard only last night about a script that is being written, but written specifically with the actor, Patrick, to play in it,” Stewart told host Josh Horowitz. “And I’ve been told to expect to receive it within a week or so.”

Plot: In a dark corner of the universe controlled by a Fascist regime called The Motherworld, a former soldier named Kora (Sofia Boutella) tries to escape her past by living as a simple farmer on a peaceful moon called The Veldt. When that moon is invaded by The Motherworld and her friends are threatened, Kora sets off to recruit an army of soldiers to battle with the Motherworld and end their tyranny.
Review: Take Star Wars, a liberal amount of Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven, and Battle Beyond the Stars, and mix it in with a heavy helping of Heavy Metal (both the magazine and the film), and you end up with Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. While a bit overstuffed (Snyder maybe made it a little too lean at just over two hours), it’s nonetheless a deliriously entertaining sci-fi epic that one could easily call the Best Star Wars Movie Never Made.

Rebel Moon isn’t really the Zack Snyder Star Wars everyone was always characterizing it as… but what if it was?
“When Rebel Moon releases in theaters… it’ll mark the end of a 10-year journey. A journey that began with a 2013 rumor that director Zack Snyder was working on some kind of Star Wars movie. That rumor, it turns out, was not true. At the time, Snyder had the idea of taking one of his stories and putting it into the world of Star Wars, but it never got much further than that. You can’t help but wonder though, in the words of another Disney-owned franchise, ‘What if?’”

The Wonder Woman game being developed by Monolith Productions might be a live-service title, in line with Warner Bros.’ stated goals.
A job advert for Monolith Productions seems to indicate that the studio’s upcoming Wonder Woman game might be a live-service title.
The advert, which was spotted by Wccftech, is for a ‘Lead Software Engineer, Gameplay’. “As a Gameplay Lead, you will lead the team responsible for core gameplay systems inherent to Monolith’s proprietary engine, including combat, movement, the Nemesis system, and more!” reads the job description.

Warner Bros. then patented the Nemesis system in 2015, as Ryan Lambie discusses in this exploration of the ups and downs of patented game mechanics. But I digress.)

Star Trek: Insurrection was a disappointing entry for the Next Generation crew – both creatively and at the box office. It made $117 million worldwide, which was only about $30 million less than Star Trek: First Contact, but the budget was pretty hefty, thanks mainly to salaries, with the film costing $70 million, making it the most expensive Trek movie to date. While the studio likely eeked out a profit once it hit home video, the margins were slim. Thus, Paramount, which still hoped the franchise could bounce back in another movie, opted to shake things up for the ambitious Star Trek Nemesis. Yet, all the pricey talent they went after, at the sacrifice of some of Tng’s key creative players, could save the movie from being an all-out disaster that ended the Next Generation crew’s adventures on the big screen for good.

In the 1994 film "Star Trek: Generations," the Enterprise-d was sabotaged by Klingons, allowing the ship to be bested in battle and severely damaged. The ship's drive section blew up into a million pieces and the saucer section crash-landed on Veridian III. After a dramatic event like that, one might expect some of the Enterprise officers to re-think their career trajectories. It seems that most of the Enterprise's senior staff was 100% okay with merely moving to another (uglier) ship and going on their merry way. No one gets sentimental about the Enterprise-d.
Worf (Michael Dorn), however, did indeed have a crisis of career. His ship was destroyed and he didn't really know what he wanted to do. Luckily, a chance visit to Deep Space Nine revealed that he was content with the idea of transferring. He would no longer be a security officer, but an ambitious command officer. Starting with the...

Tom Hardy's first major film gag was playing one of the many faceless soldiers in Ridley Scott's overwrought war thriller "Black Hawk Down" in 2001. The actor was only about 24 at the time and had just come off of the acclaimed HBO WWII miniseries "Band of Brothers." His second feature was also a war drama called "Deserter," a low-profile project that was released in 2002. Casting directors seemed to like the way Hardy looked in uniform.
Also in 2002, however, Hardy was offered a higher-profile role -- and a very challenging one -- when he was cast as Shinzon in Stuard Baird's "Star Trek: Nemesis." Shinzon was a clone of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) who had been raised in a Reman mining colony, and who would rise up against his Roluman oppressors and attempt to take control of the Romulan Star Empire. Shinzon was essentially a younger, more aggressive version of Picard,...

Patrick Stewart was finished playing Captain Picard. The acclaimed actor had already played the character in 176 episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," in one episode of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," and in four feature films, all between 1987 and 2002. Stewart hung up his uniform and was eager to take on other acting challenges. Indeed, the 2002 film "Star Trek: Nemesis" was a notorious bomb, and the last remaining series, "Star Trek: Enterprise" struggled through its final years before being canceled in 2005. For all intents and purposes, "Star Trek" was at an end, and Stewart could, if he so desired, merely reminisce at "Trek" conventions and stay in contact with the old castmates in his contacts folder.
When CBS All Access launched in 2017, however, Paramount became intensely keen on putting multiple new "Star Trek" shows into production. The streaming service, now called Paramount+, launched with "Star Trek: Discovery," a show set...

Patrick Stewart shares blunt thoughts on 2002’s “Star Trek: Nemesis” in his new memoir, “Making It So” (via Insider). The film, the fourth and final “Star Trek” feature to star “The Next Generation” cast, featured one of Stewart’s least memorable outings as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, at least according to the actor himself.
“‘Nemesis,’ which came out in 2002, was particularly weak,” Stewart writes. “I didn’t have a single exciting scene to play, and the actor who portrayed the movie’s villain, Shinzon, was an odd, solitary young man from London. His name was Tom Hardy.”
Hardy was not a household name when he played the villain in “Star Trek: Nemesis,” and Stewart predicted his co-star never would be due to how shut off he was from the rest of the cast during the making of the movie.

Patrick Stewart is admitting that he did not anticipate Tom Hardy’s Hollywood career lasting more than 20 years since first working with his fellow Brit.
Stewart wrote in his memoir “Making It So” (via Insider) that shooting 2002 film “Star Trek: Nemesis” alongside Hardy created a “challenging” dynamic with the future “Venom” star, who largely kept to himself on set.
“Tom wouldn’t engage with any of us on a social level,” Stewart wrote. “Never said, ‘Good morning,’ never said, ‘Goodnight,’ and spent the hours he wasn’t needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend.”
The actor added, “He was by no means hostile — it was just challenging to establish any rapport with him.”
Hardy portrayed the movie’s villain Shinzon, a clone of Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard.

I have vivid memories of seeing "Star Trek: Nemesis" on December 13, 2002 (the film's opening day) and learning what true pop culture disappointment felt like. "Star Trek" had been a part of my life and my home for as long as I could remember. Even lesser "Star Trek" was still "Star Trek." But "Nemesis" was different. It was bad in unique ways. It was bad in ways that didn't feel like "Star Trek." My life as a movie and TV fan, as a "Star Trek" fan, hinges on that day. The day I learned that the things I loved could actively hurt me. There are worse films out there, yes, but few carry the profound stench of disappointment quite like this one, a film that took one of the greatest casts of characters in science fiction history and gave them a conclusion so half-assed that it felt like a personal insult.

The 1990s were an exciting period for action films, with many of them getting released direct-to-video and showing up seemingly randomly at local video stores, requiring fans of the genre to have memberships at multiple locations to get to see everything. There was so much that if attention wasn’t paid, titles would be missed easily or rented twice under different titles at different video stores. Stars emerged within those ranks and gathered the love and adoration of fans. Here are the 10 of the best Dtv action stars of that era:
Dolph Lundgren
Let’s start with the obvious man on the list, the one that everyone saw films from at their local video stores. Lundgren had films that were released in theaters, on video, and direct to cable in some cases during the 1990s, but one thing is for sure, he was a mainstay of the action film aisle...

Terry Matalas doesn’t mince words about the difficulty of getting the “Next Generation” band back together for Season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard.” In fact, when he came onboard as showrunner prior to the second season, there was no plan for a reunion of the beloved Enterprise-D crew (nor an appearance from the ship itself).
“Because that was not the show they had set out to make,” he added in a new interview with IndieWire, alongside production designer Dave Blass. “‘Picard’ was the deconstruction of Jean-Luc Picard, and it had a new cast, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”
Matalas knew, though, that bringing back the full “Next Generation” cast for one final adventure — after their voyages came to a thud of an end with 2002’s “Star Trek: Nemesis” — would be electric if it happened.
He made it so.

German distributor Dolphin Medien has partnered with U.K. horror production house Red Shadow Studios on horror films based on public domain children’s properties Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan, it was revealed at the ongoing Cannes film market.
“Winnie the Pooh: Death House,” described by the makers as “The Strangers” meets “The Purge,” is a stylized serial killer slant on A.A. Milne’s beloved character, which recently entered the public domain. The film is written by Red Shadow’s Adam Stephen Kelly and is directed by S.J. Evans (“Dead of the Nite”). The story centres around an unexpected school reunion in a remote country mansion – an event orchestrated by members of a cult who were mercilessly tormented by the guests as children. Now, years later, they’re out for gruesome revenge. Filming is underway at U.K. locations.

Exclusive: Oscar-shortlisted Panamanian filmmaker Abner Benaim (Plaza Catedral) is gearing up to direct a feature adaptation of Nemesis, the final bestseller by Philip Roth to be published prior to the famed author’s 2018 passing.
Dealing with such timely themes as an epidemic and antisemitism, Nemesis was described in The New Yorker as having “the elegance of a fable and the tragic inevitability of a Greek drama.” The novel published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in October of 2010 is set in the summer of 1944, examining the impact of a polio epidemic on a Newark, NJ community and its children.
Peter Glanz (The Longest Week) adapted the screenplay. Pablo Larraín, Juan de Dios Larraín and Andrew Hevia will produce for Fabula — the production company behind Foreign Language Oscar winner A Fantastic Woman, the Kristen Stewart starrer Spencer, and the upcoming drama Maria starring Angelina Jolie. Fernando Loureiro produces for Tigresa.

Stuart Baird's "Star Trek: Nemesis" was, it seemed, the end of the road for "Star Trek: The Next Generation." The crew of the Enterprise-d left the airwaves in 1994, leaving the franchise in the hands of high-quality but less-popular "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." The series moved to the big screen with "Star Trek: Generations," a film that many Trekkies appreciated at the time, but which has been reassessed as being generally disappointing. It was followed by the relatively well-received "Star Trek: First Contact" in 1996, a film that dumbed down a lot of Trek ideas and presented them as action shlock, as well as "Star Trek: Insurrection" in 1998, a pretty cheap, poorly written movie that remains at the top of no one's lists.
Already tired, the NextGen film franchise staggered into theaters in 2002 with "Nemesis," the final chapter for the character. In it, Troi (Marina Sirtis) and Riker (Jonathan Frakes...

Streaming exclusively on Screambox beginning today, Project Wolf Hunting is a hyper-violent South Korean genre bender that packs action, sci-fi, horror, and thriller aspects into a two-hour splatterfest of epic proportions.
It’s a wholly original production, but here are six movies that writer-director Kim Hong-Sun (The Chase) evokes with Project Wolf Hunting.
1. Con Air
Although the plots ultimately diverge in drastic ways, Project Wolf Hunting‘s basic premise echoes that of Con Air. The 1997 action thriller takes place on a maximum security transport plane that’s been hijacked by criminals in an effort to escape. Project Wolf Hunting transplants the action to a cargo ship, wherein convicts coordinate an escape attempt while being transported.
2. The Raid
Project Wolf Hunting‘s merciless violence brings to mind The Raid. While few movies live up to the 2011 Indonesian film’s revolutionary action set pieces, Project Wolf Hunting‘s bone-crunching brutality is supplemented by literal tons of gore.

Because the characters in "Star Trek" tend to mark the passage of time by Stardates, it takes some delving by resourceful Trekkies to find when the various "Trek" shows take place on the Gregorian calendar. "Star Trek: The Next Generation," said Trekkies have found, began in the year 2364 and lasted until 2370. "Star Trek: Generations" took place in '71, "First Contact" in '73, "Insurrection" in '75, and "Nemesis" in '79. After a well-documented 15 years with the "Next Generation" cast, it seemed that they would move on with their lives and audiences would no longer be privy to their adventures.
Of course, that all changed in 2017 with the launch of CBS All Access, later renamed Paramount+, and the sudden abundance of "Star Trek" the new streaming platform wanted to provide. Many new "Star Trek" shows were put into production, including "Star Trek: Picard," a series about the off-duty shenanigans experienced by the...

Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard. Consider yourself warned. The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard recently wrapped up and, in my opinion, was an absolutely wonderful finale for the beloved characters of The Next Generation. It also set the stage for another new show, which Picard showrunner Terry Matalas has dubbed Star Trek: Legacy.

To be sure, Star Trek: Picard season three pulled off something of a magic trick, bringing back not only the main cast of The Next Generation but also featuring surprising cameos. But by the time the credits rolled on the final episode, there was one main character conspicuously missing from the original lineup of Tng characters: Wesley Crusher.
Wesley’s absence from Picard season three seemed particularly glaring given the overall plot of those final 10 episodes, in which Picard and company go on a spacefaring trip to rescue Beverly Crusher and her son Jack. It’s a mission somewhat familiar to the once and future crew of the Enterprise-d, as they did the same a few times for Beverly’s firstborn, Wesley.

It must be intimidating for any actor to enter the fold of "Star Trek." In addition to the risk of being pigeonholed (Brent Spiner has spoken at length about that phenomenon), there is a lot to know beforehand. Given the franchise's vast history, and the hundreds of hours of drama it has already produced, it seems that some homework might be required just to have some context of whatever scene you might be acting in.
The former aspect was a bugaboo for Ed Speleers, the actor cast as Jack Crusher in the third season of "Star Trek: Picard." Jack Crusher wasn't some mere ensign written to sit at a starship's helm and read lines about diverting power from life support to the shields or whatever. Jack Crusher was the son of Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) and Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), two of the main characters of "Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments in “The Last Generation,” the series finale of “Star Trek: Picard,” currently streaming on Paramount+.
When Patrick Stewart first met with producers Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman in 2017 to discuss the possibility of returning to play Jean-Luc Picard again on a new “Star Trek” series, Stewart famously did so as a courtesy to explain that he had absolutely no interest in revisiting the world of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
“I explained to them all those elements of ‘Next Generation’ which belong in ‘Next Generation,’ and why I didn’t want to go near them again,” Stewart told Variety in a January 2020 cover story. This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.
What started in 1987 has ended. Instead of its original tepid exit in 2002 film Nemesis, the saga of The Next Generation has gone out with a bang in the epic and warm-hearted series finale of Picard. While this series began in 2020 as a somewhat risky Star Trek spinoff, the third season has emerged as a kind of soft reboot, bringing back the tone, aesthetic, and countless elements from ‘90s Star Trek. Season 3 has also emerged as a bona fide hit — becoming the first Star Trek Paramount+ series to break into the Nielsen top 10 of most popular streaming shows — as well as receiving a ton of critical acclaim, even more so than Strange New Worlds last year. Clearly, showrunner Terry Matalas did something right.

When the third season of "Star Trek: Picard" began, this old Trekkie declared it to be the best "Star Trek: The Next Generation" movie we never got. This was a bit of a dubious comparison, as the four extant "Next Generation" movies never quite reached the intellectual highs of the TV series on which they were based. "Star Trek: Generations" was weirdly preoccupied with "passing the torch" moments, bending over backward to get Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and James T. Kirk (William Shatner) on screen together. "First Contact" was an enjoyable enough action picture, but it dumbed down a lot of the show's more interesting notions about the Borg, and, in being a full-scale action picture, only served to highlight how ill-suited the NextGen cast was for such a genre.
"Insurrection" more or less repeated the premise of the episode "Who Watches the Watchers", but tried to stage it as...

This post contains heavy spoilers for Star Trek: Picard
The first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard had an admirable, if not altogether successful, goal. Rather than just play on nostalgia, the series caught up with Jean-Luc Picard 20 years after Star Trek: Nemesis and teamed him with a new crew. While the adventures in both seasons certainly had their feet in classic The Next Generation storylines — as Data, the Borg Queen, and Q all played major roles — the series wanted to take Picard into a new, undiscovered country.
But for its third and likely last season, Picard has pulled out all of the stops, bringing back the cast from Tng. The result has been a rousing adventure in the mold of The Original Series movies, in which an aged crew find themselves on the run from Starfleet to face a threat only they can stop. Layered in with compelling new...

Tom Hardy spent almost a decade working under the radar in Hollywood before he had a breakout blockbuster role in Christopher Nolan's "Inception" and his career took off. It wasn't his first high-profile role in a science fiction film; that would be "Star Trek: Nemesis," where a young Hardy played the villain Shinzon, a clone of legendary Starfleet captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). However, "Nemesis" is the film that effectively killed any further movies featuring the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" cast, until they recently reemerged in the third season of "Star Trek: Picard." And before he ever went sci-fi or flew a Spitfire in "Dunkirk," for his first TV and film roles respectively, Hardy appeared back-to-back in the HBO World War II miniseries "Band of Brothers" and the Ridley Scott war movie "Black Hawk Down."

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments in Season 3, Episode 9 of “Star Trek: Picard,” currently streaming on Paramount+.
Gates McFadden didn’t know what to expect when she first got on a Zoom call with “Star Trek: Picard” executive producers Terry Matalas and Akiva Goldsman. A few years earlier, Patrick Stewart had taken the cast of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” — Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, Brent Spiner and McFadden — to dinner to announce that he was going to star on the spinoff series without them. But for the show’s third and final season, Matalas wanted to bring the full cast back together.
The “Tng” storyline ended, some feel prematurely, in 2002, after “Star Trek: Nemesis” bombed in theaters. But for McFadden, her run as Dr. Beverly Crusher had really concluded with the series finale of the show in 1994. In the movies, Crusher — who on the show had a longstanding,...

With Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard ending, there’s room for another new series (or two) to join the long-running franchise. While speaking with SFX Magazine (via TrekMovie), Star Trek franchise producer Alex Kurtzman teased that we should hear about those new projects soon.
“[We] have plans for new things… there’s quite a few plans, and you’ll hear about them soon,” Alex Kurtzman said. “We will continue to expand the Star Trek universe, absolutely.” One of those potential new shows is the Section 31 series starring Michelle Yeoh. The project was first announced in 2019, but so much time has passed that some believed it had been shelved. Not so, according to Kurtzman. “I can tell you that we’re still very excited about Section 31,” Kurtzman said. “And that’s all I will say.” Yeoh’s Best Actress win at the Academy Awards for Everything Everywhere All at Once...

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments in Season 3, Episode 6 of “Star Trek: Picard,” currently streaming on Paramount+.
Of the many pleasures of the third season of “Star Trek: Picard,” the greatest has to be watching the cast of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” finally reunite on screen for the first time since the 2002 feature film “Star Trek: Nemesis.” That movie was a failure critically, commercially and with “Star Trek” fans, many of whom were especially upset that the beloved character of Data (Brent Spiner) was killed off.
Except, it turns out, he wasn’t. In Season 1 of “Star Trek: Picard,” fans learned that Data’s android consciousness had been kept alive within an inanimate memory core by Altan Inigo Soong (Spiner), the brother of Data’s original creator, Noonien Soong — until Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) honored Data’s desire to finally perish from existence completely.

LeVar Burton never thought he’d play Geordi La Forge again.
He never even thought there’d be an onscreen “Next Generation” reunion after “Star Trek: Picard” was announced four and a half years ago. On that day, August 4, 2018, when Patrick Stewart took the stage at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention to say that the later life of his beloved captain would be explored in a follow-up series, Burton and Jonathan Frakes were excitingly peering out from backstage to support their friend as he had his moment. But Burton never expected to get in uniform as La Forge once more.
“In fact, quite the opposite,” Burton said in a new interview with IndieWire. “We were quite certain that we would not be a part of ‘Picard.’ This was Patrick’s opportunity to play the character, but to play stories that were in large measure unrelated to that part of...
