- The two main characters, children, are put in a variety of perilous situations.
- Sam attacks a boy making fun of him in the school yard.
- Josh is verbally abused by his older step-brothers and, to a lesser extent, his own father, leading to a big emotional scene at the dinner table.
- Josh and Sam's mother is getting married to a man they're not particularly fond of, and don't take the news lightly when she reveals she's going to live with him in Europe for a year.
- Josh lies his way into a big pickle, claiming another woman to be his mother and an old boyfriend believing himself to be his father. When it all goes south, the man violently attacks Josh, resulting in him getting knocked senseless with a pool cue. Josh believes he has killed the man and panics about possibly being given the death penalty.
- There is much tension between Sam and Josh, as the latter continously tries to explain he made everything up, but he won't believe him.

- The two main characters, a child and a pre-teen boy, are chased by a violent man. Sam throws a pool ball at his head, causing him to turn on him, when Josh hits him with a pool cue, supposedly killing him. but is later revealed to be all right.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- Josh and Sam have an emotional goodbye at the airport... and then an emotional reunion at the end of the film
