Television Classic from Germany with Thekla Carola WIED

Exciting two-part television series with Thekla Carola Wied and Peter Sattmann

For Easter 1994, the German television station Sat1 gave the audience this exciting and original story from the late phase of the GDR. In those days of the first half of the 1990s, the private broadcasters RTL and Sat1 had taken over market leadership in Germany from the public television programs ARD and ZDF and were struggling to produce sophisticated programs. In this case it worked extremely well.

GDR 1984: Vera (Thekla Carola Wied) and Jürgen Färber (Peter Sattmann) are on vacation in the Eastern Harz with their two children. Stimulated by the fresh forest air, the couple's carnal desire overcomes them. While the little ones play in the forest, they get down to business with a quickie in the Trabi. Suddenly, son Mischa seems to have been swallowed up by the earth. Every search is pointless! Full of despair, the couple now falls into the clutches of the GDR authorities, who soon pressure the Färbers to declare the missing boy dead. But Vera Färber doesn't give up...

In an exciting and highly emotional way, an authentic case is retold here, which made the then-not-so-well-known topic of forced adoptions in the GDR the talk of the day. Thekla Carola Wied was particularly convincing in a very dramatic role that demanded a lot from her. Heinz Hoenig, Elsa Grube-Deister and Jaecki Schwarz can be seen in other roles. Directed by Frank Guthke, the script was written by Klaus Poche based on a template by Ines Veith.

Well worth seeing and unforgettable even after almost thirty years!
