Sensitive, intelligent and truly moving.
GingerG27 September 1998
When you first start watching it you don't know how great it's gonna get. The friendship of seven women who loved and cared for each other despite of all their flaws and defects. It deals with important issues as sex, treason and homosexuality without prejudice, but with sensitivity and love.

Linda Yellen could NOT do what Francis Ford Coppola did with Apocalypse Now
chvideo1 March 1999
Coppola explains that towards the end of the production of Apocalypse Now he was forced to improvise many of his shots, and the end product shows his success. However, Linda Yellen fails to make this movie work. The lack of close-ups makes this movie drag on and on and her shot improvisation is painfully obvious. My final thought - spend the money for the steadycam!!

The good, the bad, and the orgasms with god!
TruPretender7 March 2005
Hard to believe that this film as based mostly on improv. Seeing as the story has good definition and dialogue that carries through-out. This touching story of seven women reaching together when life gets tough is an absolute joy for men and women alike. Especially for the women, a nice statement on women seen as strong as men. More films should be seen like this, with women portrayed by strong, powerful actresses. Eikenberry, Williams, and Slater are clearly the main women helming the story, with a terrific line of Sheedy, Krouse, Shire, and Plimpton supporting. Film begins out nice and fluffy with girl-to-girl moments in the first act, then turns quite intense in the middle, as certain terms are known to be serious. The tone is set early on as the women are listening to Talia Shire speak honestly about sex with god. How often do we hear former "Supergirl" Helen Slater speak out on orgasms with god? Next you've got Jobeth Williams fornicating with the pizza delivery boy, and a hot-tub as a confession booth! Classic! Should have been theatrical, these women need to be heard!

Exquisite rendering of female friendship and love
Neuanda5 November 1998
I first saw this in 1993 when it had just been released on video. Since then, my obsessive tendencies have lead me to see this film upwards of 100 times. I now own it, because I wore out my local video store's copy. The actresses have created something truly special in their vignettes about love, life and death. My hat is off to them all.

Talented women, in front of and behind the camera.

This was a great movie I saw on Showtime. It had a great ensemble cast that , I heard, did a lot of improv on the set. It was an interesting movie and I would recommend it to any woman, or any man that wants to understand women better. Loved it!

I thought it was excellent

I saw this movie with one of my best friends, years back and we both still talk about it to this day. An unexpected twist really sent us in an uproar. We laughed and cried together and never expected that this movie would be one of our favorites to this day. I did not know that most of the work was improved, and I really didn't care. Definitely a chick-flick. Girls, I highly recommend watching this with your best friend...better yet get your group of closest friends together and you will see how similar things are in your life. There are many characters in this movie that can equal the women closest to you in your life and you never know what is going to happen. I thought the stories were original and thought provoking. Definitely a must-see for any woman who has had a close friendship with their sister or a girlfriend. So, a must-see for all! Oh, and don't forget the Kleenex!

Moving, entertaining, powerful
shel2113 February 1999
This movie was one of the most powerful films that I have seen in years. It teaches us all how to look at our relationships and friendships. I hope that when I revisit my youth, I have a group of friends as loyal and fun as this group of exceptional women. This movie made me call a friend I haven't talked to in years and rekindle the relationship. Rent this movie, pop some popcorn and watch it with your nearest and dearest!
