Complicated plot, but close to the original
gila_film21 November 2001
Based by the series book of Ku Lung, this movie is one of the best swordsman movie. Actually, this movie was been made already with Ti Lung also as Fu Hung Suet at the 70's (Shaw Brothers Era). But, compared with the old one, this really magnificent, with the loyalty with the original plot. Even greater when Ti Lung revisited his role as Fu Hung Suet and meet with entire new and more modern cast, such as Anita Yuen and Julian Cheung.

The plot is a bit complicated, but that not make this movie confusing to the audience but still enjoyable enough to watch. So,if you a big fan of martial art's world flick, this highly recommended.

'90s Shaw remake
Leofwine_draca30 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Frankie Chan took it upon himself to write, direct and star in this 1990s remake of a Shaw Brothers movie from 1977 entitled PURSUIT OF VENGEANCE. He even got Ti Lung to come back and reprise his role as a limping, merciless killer who is gets his own theme music (directly ripped off from THE TERMINATOR, even the limp is similar). Sadly, this is a lower budgeted affair that comes across as needlessly muddled and confused for the most part, although it does have plenty of cool and crazy action scenes to recommend it. You get dynamite sticks acting like WW2 artillery pieces, an invisible fighter, lots of dismemberment and the usual wire fu of the era. Not great, but it does entertain at times, it just needed to be half an hour shorter and less confused to really work.

Solid kung fu entertainment!
stellan-sjolin6 January 2019
Should you watch this movie? If you like kung fu movies, definitely! The movie has a great deal of the classic kung fu spirit from 60-70-80's movies, you know what to expect, lots of fast paced action, some humor, ultra evil bad guy with a manic laugh and so on. It might loose a star or two because there is a few to many characters, of which a few lack purpose. This sometimes just fills space in the movie, and make the story less straightforward. I had quite bad subtitles as well, this made it worse for me.

But overall? If you like classic kung fu, watch it!

Comedy version of the movie "Pursuit of Vengeance."
djdanny035 May 2020
To be nice I will say this movie was just OK that is if you want to see a parody/ comedy version of the movie "Pursuit of Vengeance." There must be a reason why "A Warrior's Tragedy" is hard to find and hasn't been remastered like the prior movie of this story. It reminds me how the quality of kung fu movies (with some exceptions) went down during the late 1980s and early 1990s. To makeup for a lack of athletic well choreographed kung fu, they replaced it with over the top unrealistic sped-up action scenes, explosions, and too much corny comedy. Well designed assassin duels are replaced with a cloaking device and an extended chariot dynamite mortar chase sequence. Funky 80s sound effects. What was funny was the constant hair covering half of the main character's face to hide how much older he looks in this movie. I'm sorry to say this because I think highly of Lung Ti and a lot of his other kungfu movies. To see a better version of this movie I would recommend watching "Pursuit of Vengeance" instead.
