Tadipaar Directed By Mahesh Bhatt is A Romantic Comedy Drama. Plot is Similar To Movies Likes Yeh Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi(1991), Nau Do Gyarah(1957) & Chori Chori(1956) With Few Changes. Script & Screenplay Are Below The Mark With Nothing New To Offer. Dialogues & Comedy is Good. Direction is Quite Average. Best Part is Music.

Shankar(Mithun Chakraborty), Sentenced To Live Outside The Limits Of The City, Due To A Police Case in Other Words "Tadipaar". One Day He Happens To Rescue A Girl in Distress From Some Hoodlums And Finds Out That Her Name is Namkeen(Pooja Bhatt), Who Resembles A Multi-Millionaire Mohini Devi, Who Has Gone Missing. Shankar Asks Namkeen To Impersonate Mohini Devi To Embezzle Her Wealth. Namkeen Agrees To Do So, But Later Revealed That She is Mohini Devi Which Changes Life Of Shankar.

Acting Wise Mithun Does Well But Overplayed in Few Comedy Scenes. Pooja Bhatt Does Nothing New With Weak Acting Skills. Vikram Gokhale is Just Fine. Avtar Gill, Anupam Kher & Tiku Talsania Are Good in Limited Screen Space.

Music By Nadeem Shravan is Very Melodious. "Aaj Pehli Baar" By Kumar Sanu is Pleasant Romantic Track. "Bikhri Zulfon Ko" By Kumar Sanu is My Favorite Song. "Aapki Dushmani Kabool" By Kumar Sanu is Most Popular Song From The Movie. "Yeh Zindagi Kabhi Kabhi" By S.P. Balasubramaniam is Well Written Sad Song.

Bhatt goes fairytale
jattunit10 November 2009
Bhatt's first attempt with Mithun, who during the time was not doing well. Mithun rejected a couple of Bhatt's films in the past and then as his career was going rough, I think he just had to give in.

So was the film bad? Or was Mithun bad? The answer is no. Tadipaar is no less to a fairytale that can be told before going to sleep, obviously meaning the film itself is magic. The story maybe a copy but who cares. The first impression of Tadipaar to me was a violent, 'Tezaab' type of film, but honestly, Tadipaar is as sweet as sugar.

Our Tadipaar (which means outlaw, criminal. His crime is not explained) is just a normal guy from the streets of Mumbai who sits in cinemas day and night watching movies about rich guys marrying rich girls (some of them were Mahesh Bhatt's own films), so this guy himself dreams in that sense too. Who dreams, if he had money this will happen or if had car etc etc. Like a Broadway musical the film just packs into the wonderful limelight of songs. Obviously life is not that easy for some, and the story turns into a personal vendetta for the Tadipaar. The second half of the film turns into something else completely sticking to the light side. I guess some scenes really do the magic in the film like:

  • Mithun's outburst to Pooja - Mithun bursts into tears with Anupam - The ending at the train station

Mithun owns the shows. In fact, it wont be wrong to say it one of better performances he gave in the 90's, a great act! Pooja does decent work and working with her father she always seems comfortable. Anupam Kher is okay and Avtar Gill is decent.

Overall, recommended. A fan of Mithun or not, this deserves a watch at least twice. Worth DVD money for sure. And yes, the songs are extraordinary and not a single song is worth forwarding. So please, watch it.

Tadipaar is a good film!
namashi_119 February 2009
Mahesh Bhatt's Tadipaar is a good film from 1993. An entertaining film from start to end, with superb songs, super performances & note-worthy direction.

Performance Wise: Mithun Chakraborty is fantastic, from scene A to Z. Pooja Bhatt looks beautiful and delivers a very good performance. Anupam Kher overacts. Vikram Gokale is impressive in a negative role. Gulshan Grover is decent. Avatar Gill is superb. Juhi Chawla looks pretty in a cameo appearance. Sadashiv Amarpurkar's ma-ha Rani act doesn't impress.

Tadipaar deserves a watch for the pluses mentioned above! Thumbs up!

Warning: Spoilers
Superstar Mithun Chakravorty, a riotous, honest constable turned military captain Ravi parsed is at the brink of war with local gangsters, who have turned a simple tinsel town of beautiful valley called Denali and river into bloodshed of ruthless. Underworld King, Bhairav (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) has in his company international criminals of Western fame, especially Jonny Risky (Gulshan Grover) who is not afraid of anybody and any risk in life. Jonny has in his hand dollars and guns to buy corrupt politician CM Ramnath (Avtar Gill) and a cop ACP Satish Misra (Tiku Talsania), who in love of money will sell everything from land to the bottom of their insaniyat.

After gangsters start disrupting daily life of peace of loving valley people, the house is burnt where once lived the most respectable man of the valley, Shri Harichandra Thakur (Anupam Kher). Thakur sahib had legacy of unimaginable proportion of advice and charity that only rivaled the corruption of administration level, including Ministers and Policemen, who were obviously opposed to he. On public humility of being his clothes torn ed by gangsters and slapped in front of the valley for denying to use his house as drunk locale for a village bar, the Thakur was left to shambles of cruelty and humility that no respectable man could live with. He devastated ran to the ravine to end his life for once and all, where intervention of beautiful valley damsel Seema (Pooja Bhat) saved his life to discourage his jump to the mountain below. Seema herself an orphan was disrespected by valley people and harassed by local goons.

Meanwhile military captain Ravi after sending terrorist back to their cave and at the same time capturing and killing wanted terrorist in Shimla and around Kashmir, was given the country's most biggest honor, the param vir chakra. Humbled by this gift, captain Ravi said "No" and wanted to retire from his daily duty. His sadness was remarkably noticed by media men and people in the audience told each other how after his wife Vidibha' (Juhi Chawla) death, he had no purpose in life. Not being able to bear any kids was another sad part, which he could not get over and blamed his inability on Vidibha's death, who died while trying to give birth, but baby also had to die.

When Ravi returned to his old wifes, now that she is dead, back to her village, he was expecting a peaceful time with locals and the beautiful nature of the valley mountains. No sooner was he in the valley, he was attacked by drunk rowdies of the Bhairav team, who insisted that he gave his military jeep to them. After a long fight, captain Ravi had emerged as the sole leader and destroyer of the gang and got instant respect in the valley. Captain Ravi wanted to keep low profile for the rest of his life, but rumors spread that Captain Ravi is Tadipaar !! banned from the rest of the land of the country and cannot go back, so has to retire in beautiful valley mountains of Denali.

The village suffering, made him the tiger he was in the early days of his military training, and he vowed with the help of Thakur and damsel Seema to end the mistreat of his countrymen. His elimination of the local gang and international was seen and respected by the whole country and the prime minister himself after pressure from countrymen had to hand deliver the param vir chakra to captain Ravi again in front of India Gate. Millions clapped and cheered from TVs across the world for this brave unselfish man.
