The Legend Lives On
Dolemike-213 June 2002
When Queen's frontman Freddie Mercury succumbed to AIDS in 1991 it was a blow to the music world, and it ended a 20 year legacy. However, as Freddie was never one to do things by half-measures, the surviving members of Queen decided to give him the biggest sendoff in history. The result was a massive charity (for the Mercury-Phoenix Trust AIDS foundation) concert that took place at Wembley Stadium, England. Some of the biggest names in music came to perform, everyone from Elton John,George Michael and David Bowie to Spinal Tap, Guns 'n' Roses and Metallica. The concert was divided into two sections: the bands played their own songs in the first half, and then the superstars joined Queen onstage to perform Queen's greatest hits. A tremendous concert for all those involved. Music from the 60's to the 90's is played, so it has something for everyone. This concert helps the legend of Freddie Mercury live on.

This is a VERY emotional concert, with the biggest names in the rock history, paying their respect to Queen's lead singer in 20 years Freddie Mercury, who sadly died of AIDS in 1991! It's a great concert with a lot of good rock tunes!!

A very good concert.

Queen were and still are without a doubt the best band that ever graced planet earth.

This very emotional tribute concert pays tribute to one of the worlds most powerful rock legends ever, the great Freddie Mercury who sadly died in November 1991 from AIDS.

The Freddie Mercury tribute concert boasts a whole lot of stars. From George Michael who did an amazing job when singing "somebody to love" to Elton John, who was a close friend of Freddie's. Heavy metal groups like Guns n Roses and Metallica performed with style to.

Overall a very good and emotional concert.

Very good concert performance
MovieAddict20162 June 2005
This concert tribute to the late Freddie Mercury (frontmen of legendary UK rock band QUEEN) is a great performance. There are so many guest appearances, including Elton John, Def Leppard and Axl Rose.

There are many musical performances, but the most popular -- and best -- has to be the reinterpretation of Queen's most famous song, Bohemian Rhapsody, which is performed here by Elton John and Axl Rose. It's a great performance, a great song -- and it sounds (arguably) even better with John and Rose singing it. (Although Queen fans may disagree on that one.) Overall this is a great performance and everyone involved is giving 100%. And for the record, I absolutely loved the performance of We Will Rock You, which is probably the second best song here - and it's really well performed.

Worth watching.

A great party
Capboy22 September 1999
This was/is a terrific concert. Of course, one of the biggest and best surprises has been revealed--namely, the appearance of Mercury's favorite singer Liza Minnelli at the end to close the show (as I'm a Liza fan, I was stunned and delighted when this was aired live). She does a fab version of "We Are The Champions". You go, girl.

Excellent Concert, For Rock Leading Frontman Freddie Mercury RIP
This Concert was everything it lived up to be. The Bands did a Very Good job performing. My personal favorite performance was the one put on by Guns N Roses. The recording showed alot of Archive footage of Freddie Mercury, as well as Queen. From the beginning of their career, to the very end.

The Concert has alot of Great Moments, especially Liz Taylor making her big begging speech to the crowd. This Concert is for everyone, Queen fans, or fans wanting to know about Queen and of course Freddie Mercury. This really is an Excellent Concert to watch, rent, or buy, you won't be disappointed.

An amazing day, an amazing event!
russellhalil14 May 2012
I was the runner and a production coordinator on this event as I used to work for Fugitive TV & Video's and Features. It was an amazing and emotional journey for many people, resulting in a beautiful triumph that everyone was proud to be part of. God bless Queen, Jim, Dominic and Ray, Julie and everyone at Queen Productions for making this monumental day so special. The highlight for me was David Bowie and Annie Lennox and the mighty Guns & Roses. I wonder what everyone is doing now? If Dave Laidlaw reads this review get in-touch. A memorable moment back stage was seeing the gorgeous Cindy Crawford in the flesh only for the moment to be then dampened by Janis Street Porter's arrival on the scene, I remember saying to my mate "Well you have to take the rough with the smooth" and we fell about laughing....LOL (Only joking Janis...we love you really)

Good, but not quite the best
fjhuerta-226 February 2002
The best: George Michael as the lead singer for Queen. Superb. Brian May playing with Def Leppard. David Bowie with Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson singing "All the young dudes".

The worst: Guns'n Roses, Liza Minelli, Annie Lenox, the whole sentimentalism thing.

Absolute worst: Elton John, looking baffled and confused, singing Bohemian Rhapsody off key.

Weird: The lightning system. It was lacking.

Conclusion: A good concert, a good cause, marred by small details, bad singing and too much commercialism. Still, the good points overshadow the bad ones. The climax of the concert, at least for me, is David Bowie singing "Heroes" and ending it with a prayer.

A Great Tribute

Title: The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert: A Timeless Celebration of Music and Compassion

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness, held on April 20, 1992, at Wembley Stadium in London, stands as one of the most iconic and memorable events in music history. Organized to honor the legendary frontman of Queen, Freddie Mercury, who tragically passed away due to AIDS-related complications in November 1991, the concert brought together some of the biggest names in rock and pop to celebrate his life and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.

The lineup for the concert reads like a who's who of music royalty, with performances by artists such as Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, and of course, the surviving members of Queen themselves. Each artist brought their own unique style and energy to the stage, creating a truly unforgettable experience for the tens of thousands of fans in attendance and the millions watching around the world.

One of the standout moments of the concert was the emotional reunion of Queen with various guest vocalists, including George Michael, who delivered a spine-tingling rendition of "Somebody to Love," and Elton John, who joined the band for a powerful performance of "The Show Must Go On." These performances served as a fitting tribute to Freddie Mercury's unparalleled talent and legacy, showcasing the enduring impact of his music.

Beyond the electrifying performances, the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert also served as a platform to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote acceptance and compassion for those affected by the disease. The event helped to destigmatize HIV/AIDS and encouraged open dialogue and support for those living with the condition, making it an important milestone in the fight against the epidemic.

Overall, the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert remains a testament to the power of music to unite people and inspire change. It stands as a timeless celebration of Freddie Mercury's life and music, as well as a poignant reminder of the ongoing need for compassion and understanding in the face of HIV/AIDS. For fans of Queen and music lovers alike, the concert continues to be a source of inspiration and joy, serving as a lasting tribute to one of the greatest performers of all time.

This concert made me realize Freddie was really gone.
rorygunn9 March 2024
Having seen this concert when it first came out it made me realize that Freddie was gone. With all the singers especially some of the ones who were frontmen for bands themselves that they would have went out there and gave it their all for Freddie but none of them did. They were all boring and flat. Not a single one of them brought their own charisma to the performance. I applaud Brian,John and Roger for their efforts. They did the best they could and you know it was difficult for them to play Wembley the sight of one of their greatest triumphs without Freddie. But they did and that's the only part that I liked was them. They were the only reason to watch this.

Rock n Roll!
Kaiketsu23 June 2002
I'm too young remember Live Aid(1985) but this one I didn't miss! The best concert ever with an all star cast of the greatest artists of the 80's and 90's. Many great moments but James Hetfield's version of Stone Cold Crazy and Elton John & Axl Rose version of Bohemian Rhapsody stands out.

A must for anyone who loves rock n roll!

There is only one Freddie
Aroura6426 May 2019
I've been watching part of this concert on PickTV. They have cut out important bits like Brian May introducing the concert. I'm afraid I've got a poor impression of this concert, because of the edits. I found the whole thing a little flat, despite so many famous names taking part. I don't think there was one performer who matched Freddie's vocal abilities. He is still greatly missed even after all these years.

Great show, for a great frontman.

This concert was everything it lived up to be. The bands did a very good job performing. My personal favorite performance was the one put on by Extreme. The tape showed alot of Archive footage of Freddie Mercury, as well as Queen. From the beginning of Queen's career, to the very end.

The concert has alot of great moments, especially Liz Taylor making her big begging speech to the crowd. The tape is for everyone, Queen fans, or fans wanting to know about Queen. The same goes for Freddie Mercury as well. This is real great concert to watch, rent it, or buy it, you will be very pleased.

It's "in the lap of the gods"...
cathrynsrp18 March 2000
I first saw The Freddie Mercury Tribute in 1995, when I was 14, and I was blown away! It is jam-packed full of Queen songs, footage, *and* rock legends. This concert (the video)introduced me to Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant, which has consequently made me a *huge* Who and Led Zeppelin fan. Anyway, this concert is fabulous. One of my favourite parts is when Brian May is singing 'Too Much Love Will Kill You', and is almost crying! :( It is definitely recommended. I am positive that if you do not particularly like Queen when you first view it, you will by the end of it, as well as all the other legends involved. Words just cannot describe, and I cannot imagine how amazing it must have been to have actually attended the concert! Queen really are the champions, and this concert really *will* rock you! -Cathryn

VHS Version Is Better Than The DVD Version
Dany_Mercury29 September 2004
They Were There In 1971 And They Are Here In 2004.

Though One Thing's Different : Freddie Mercury Has Gone To Heaven.

Brian Has Still His Red Special Guitar Built In 1964 With His Father Harold And Roger Has Still His Sets Of Drums He Used In Queen But John Deacon Doesn't Want To Be Part Of It Anymore. Queen Died With Freddie He Said. Freddie Would Have Liked Queen To Go On. I Don't Think That's The Main Reason Why John's Last Real Concert Was On April 20, 1992 In Wembley. Queen's Musical Directions ? Performing With 5ive, Wyclef Jean Or Anastacia Maybe ? Anyway...They Were All There In April 1992...Even The King Himself : Freddie Mercury.

Making A Brief Appearance On Screen, I'm Pretty Sure Freddie Watched The Show From Above. George Michael Performing "Somebody To Love", Paul Young Performing Roger's "Radio Ga Ga" Or His Favorite Performer, Liza Minelli, Performing His Own Anthem, "We Are The Champions", I'm Pretty Sure He Was Applauding.

The VHS Version Has The Entire Concert While The DVD Version Has Only The 2nd Part. Buy The VHS Version For A Complete Concert Or The DVD Version For A Better Sound.

A Great Tribute
abababab4125 December 2000
Not many have sold out Wembley Stadium for a tribute concert. This is a concert in memory of a dynamic performer of the name Farok Bulsara (otherwise known as Freddie Mercury). Freddie is the greatest Asian star the world has seen. On top of that, he is one the greatest voices in rock history. The concert is filled with lots of treats. If you're a fan of any of the artists featured on this video, then go out and rent it, you won't be dissappointed. For Queen fans, it's a "must-view" video. What more can I say, it's a truly spectacular event.
