The title of Eric Monte and Mike Evans’ Norman Lear-produced sitcom Good Times was designed to be welcoming and inclusive. The theme song was a litany of poverty-driven adversity — temporary layoffs, easy credit rip-offs, etc. — interjected with the chorus of “Good Times!,” setting up the story of the Evans family weathering the travails of the Chicago projects with a mix of pride, determination and a whole lot of dysfunctional domestic affection.
The title of Netflix’s new 10-episode animated Good Times has taken on an almost antagonistic quality, since the first trailer was released and devotees of the original blasted those two minutes for being a violation of said original’s style and spirit.
Cavalcade of caricatures! Good Times!
Drug-dealing baby! Good Times!
Executive Producer Seth MacFarlane! Good Times!

Steven Spielberg was very keen on mentoring and collaborating with young actor Shia Labeouf. But when Spielberg once suggested he should carry himself more like Tom Cruise, Labeouf felt that advice wasn’t for him.

Spielberg briefly took Labeouf under his wing, casting him in his Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull. The director also had a hand in producing some of Michael Bay’s Transformers movies, which Labeouf was a part of as well. But Spielberg took a deeper interest in the actor’s personal well-being and overall career.
Being in the spotlight at such a young age, Labeouf was at risk of falling into the same self-destructive traps other young actors did. Labeouf theorized that Spielberg noticed this in him, and tried to correct...

Black culture's global influence can never be overstated. But in 1992 - a year that set the stage for further innovation in pop culture and social justice - our impact was at an all-time high. To complement Popsugar's expansive timeline that tracks '92, we gathered some of the top journalists in the industry - Vibe veterans Danyel Smith, John Kennedy, and Datwon Thomas, writer Sowmya Krishnamurthy, and Popsugar editors - for a Twitter Space conversation on the defining year.
"When I took a really good look at 1992, it just became clear to me how effective a year that was."
During the hour-long dialogue on Feb. 15, we gave flowers to all the music, movies, TV shows, and fashion staples from 1992 that greatly influenced us. "When I took a really good look at 1992, it just became clear to me how effective a year that was," Popsugar features director Iyana Robertson says, kicking off the conversation.

Even if you’ve never heard of Phat Tuesdays, a night at The Comedy Store in Hollywood where various Black comedians got a chance to shine and get discovered, many of the names that graced the stage are well-known.
Stars such as Cedric the Entertainer, Nick Cannon, Tiffany Haddish, Chris Tucker, Dave Chappelle and more got their big breaks on that night, thanks to comedian and founder Guy Torry, who created a showcase for rising Black comedy stars back in the 1990s. His journey to The Comedy Store and all the good, bad and ugly that happened afterward is fascinatingly...

While every gamer who grew up with a Snes will waste no time telling you about those nights spent with Zelda, Mario, and all of the console’s other all-time great games, every gamer knows that the true Snes experience involved suffering through some of the absolute worst games ever made.
The Snes wasn’t the last home of truly bad games (not by a long shot), but it was the centerpiece of a particularly…special era for terrible games. Developers were not only still trying to push barely playable (if that) games on unsuspecting consumers but some were bold enough to try to make technically ambitious games that even the best studios in the world couldn’t have pulled off. The result is some of the biggest swings and misses you’ll ever see.
These aren’t the Snes games you’ll remember most fondly, but I hope that...
