The bored housewife embarking on an affair has always been a staple of erotic thrillers from Dtv classics such as Animal Instincts (1992) and Secret Games (1992) to more mainstream fare like Unfaithful (2002) – these sexually frustrated women, tired of being ignored by their workaholic husbands decide to go out and have some fun. Not merely being erotic films, the thriller element kicked in when the leading ladies found themselves out of their depth and their fooling around came back to bite them.
Taking inspiration from such predecessors, 2017’s British production, Darker Shades of Elise finds Becky Fletcher’s title character beginning a torrid affair with a photographer, Felix (Arron Blake), after she strongly suspects that her husband (Tommy Vilés) is also cheating. What begins as a kinky fling beginning with simple transgressions such as making love whilst Elise’s husband is in the next room, spirals out of control as Felix starts...

[Editor’s Note: This post is presented in partnership with Spectrum. Catch up on this year’s Awards Season contenders and the latest films On Demand. Today’s pick is “Moonlight.”]
After its remarkable run since its public premiere last September, “Moonlight” now stands in select company. Not merely the result of a singular effort, the accolades for “Moonlight” reflect contributions from everyone involved, from Barry Jenkins’ script and direction to James Laxton’s cinematography to Nicholas Brittell’s hypnotic score.
In front of the camera, the cast members who make up its historic ensemble each brought an unmistakable presence to their part of the story. It’s almost foolish to separate the three segments of “Moonlight,” which all communicate with each other in poetic, subtle ways. But there’s something about the film’s final chapter, featuring Trevante Rhodes and André Holland as an older Chiron and Kevin, that cements the film as a specific story that also transcends time and place.

Miles Teller’s star has been steadily rising ever since his breakthrough role opposite Nicole Kidman in “Rabbit Hole.” Thanks to his barnstorming lead turn as a budding young drummer in “Whiplash” — the winner of the Grand Jury Prize at last year’s Sundance Film Festival that’s gone on to become an awards juggernaut — and his upcoming performance as Mr. Fantastic in this summer’s “Fantastic Four” reboot (there’s a sequel already scheduled for release in 2017), he’s about to hit the supernova.
In the below videos, Teller opens up about the overwhelmingly positive response to “Whiplash” and the unique tone of the Academy Award nominated drama.

In a year that saw the release of some very dark animated Batman films geared toward the older crowd, namely Bad Blood and The Killing Joke (both of which I enjoyed immensely), Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs. Mutants aims to satisfy kids. After all, every age group needs a Caped Crusader they can root for. But the real issue is, does it do it well?
Long before Warner Bros. brought us PG-13 and even R-rated animated Batman offerings, they succeeded at entertaining all age groups with TV shows such as Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Each of those were able to tell sophisticated stories while not overstepping the boundaries of standards and practices.

Although many of us appreciate mature animated films featuring The Dark Knight such as the recently released Batman: Bad Blood or the upcoming R-rated Batman: The Killing Joke, we must be honest in saying that the character resonates with people of all ages and, therefore, movies appealing to the younger crowd are much needed. On September 13, Batman Unlimited: Mech vs. Mutants aims to fill that void when it arrives on DVD. As of now, no Blu-Ray release date has been given, but we’ll keep you posted.
The Batman Unlimited franchise started as a toy line that saw Batman, along with his heroic cohorts and villains, given somewhat futuristic reinterpretations. From that spawned two animated films, Animal Instincts and Monster Mayhem, along with a web series. While they have produced bizarre scenarios such as Batman riding at robotic T-Rex that shoots lasers (albeit in a virtual world), the series...

Warner Bros. Animation has released the first trailer for their new animated feature, Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts. The trailer shows the Dark Knight going up against his long-time nemesis the Penguin, and they bring some of their colleagues along for the battle. Some of the characters that will be featured on Penguin's team include Killer Croc, Cheetah, Man-Bat, and Silverback. Then on team Batman, we have Red Robin, Nightwing, Flash, and Green Arrow.
The movie will kick off a whole new line of Batman toys and more animated projects. WB and DC Animation are working together on a new line of animated blu-ray titles that will specifically focus on the younger fans, and they're kicking things off with Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts in May. Come check out the first trailer and details!
I Love the DC animated movies and love the adaptations they've done. That said, I can't exactly share them with my younger son, as they're designed for fans more in my age group. While this isn't a bad thing, WB is making sure younger fans aren't left out. Thus, we'll be getting Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts on May 12, 2015. Check out the trailer and details!

Fans of So You Think You Can Dance know that exec producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe likes to talk, and his exclusive conversation with EW in his trailer before last night’s Top 6 performance show was no exception. The voluble Brit held forth on the controversial decision not to send anyone in the Top 20 home; how the guys continue to fall short of their female competition; why Lady Gaga is at least partially responsible for all the celeb guest judges this season; and why he favors American Idol and Ryan Seacrest over Sytycd and Cat Deeley at this year’s Emmy Awards.

Atom Egoyan's new thriller is superfluous in an age of internet sex – despite a strong cast, he can't make soft porn respectable
There are many things worth getting nostalgic about that the internet age has rendered hopelessly naff or just unnecessary. The phrase "lolling about", for example; now impossible to use without sounding like an overexcited teenager.
The demise of the erotic thriller, however, probably isn't worth shedding many tears over. While the genre may have nourished a generation of Channel Five-fuelled adolescents, even the most well-regarded efforts were, on the whole, barely watchable.
It's strange then to see posters for Chloe, a new addition to the field from director Atom Egoyan, plastered all over the underground. The film was also given a surprising level of prominence at last year's London film festival, where I was lucky enough to randomly stumble into a packed screening. Are people really still...
