Rare Perestroika horror
andreygrachev26 April 2009
Satan (1990) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102843/ This is really scary movie from scary times. It shows very realistically the spirit of time and the country where it was produced during Perestroika. A dressed in black guy invites his lover's ten year old daughter to see the avia catastrophe. But instead of that he kills her in cold blood somewhere not far away from a tiny forgotten village. This murder was planned by his grandfather -criminal, but grandfather actually wanted to demand buyout from a rich mother, but the young killer is ruled by other power and he is not attracted in money at all. He is followed by some unknown power leads him within his life. He either feels terrible upset or feels satisfaction from killing , raping, punishing or playing with the feelings of young girls.

While one sees this movie about the life of young obsessed killer step by step you get in touch with the drunken world of post-soviet horror, where doom and desperation rule everything. Of course this film has bad ending. The criminals get the buyout finally and grandfather-criminal takes his bill and goes to the South to spend robbed money. But his grandson who joyfully confessed in murder to the girl's mother gets on the train where he is already awaited by new meetings.

What evil madness looks like
andromaro20 March 2023
I was not expecting much from an old and forgotten Soviet movie, but against all odds I was blown away by the unconventional story and the great acting.

From the opening credits we start to perceive an oppressive fuzziness thanks to an ominous filter. Indeed a symbolic representation of the pessimistic life in the final years of USSR (not that it is much better nowadays in Russia). Injustice reigns supreme when a young man goes berserk in a streak of evil deeds. The helplessness of the victims of such despicable acts is tragic, so much that this movie is bound to leave a mark.

It is quite an obscure movie but nonetheless unexpectedly memorable.
