After spending five years in a Turkish prison during the late 12th century Crusades, Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner) and a warrior Moor named Azeem (Morgan Freeman) manage to escape together and make it back to England where Robin learns that his father has been murdered and his lands seized by the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman), who is plotting to take over the throne of King Richard. Consequently, Robin joins with a band of thieves hiding out in Sherwood Forest after the Sheriff had them exiled from their villages.
In 2003, there has been a re-release of this Robin Hood film with a top-notch cast. The previous DVD releases had been rather unsatisfactory. This reissue fulfills all possible wishes. The DVD offers an almost 12 minutes longer extended cut of the film. Even the new Extended Edition is censored in the UK because of the PG rating: Several of the torturing scenes were altered and of course the wedding scene. Only the UK Blu-ray disc that has been classified 15 (by the British Board of Film Classification [BBFC]) features an uncut print.
