One of Bachchan's 90's films
silvan-desouza28 September 2009
This is another film of bachchan in 1990's which crashed The film is a routine cop drama which turns to a revenge drama Similar to films done in the past like Bachchan's own Zanjeer(1973)

In the film luckily Bachchan plays his age(strangely twice that year after HUM)and plays Neelam's father(after playing her brother in AGNEEPATH)

The film follows the same formula done to death in Bollywood the same recipe

In short, Another done to death Bollywood film

Direction is bad Music is nothing great

Amongst actors Bachchan looking overweight plays his age for half the film and is good in his part though he has done the same many times Jaya Pradha is as usual Kumar Gaurav is ordinary while Neelam is okay

A Darker Amitabh
avisolo27 September 2002
This one is a hard watch and is a predule to the dark 90's in Indian life but has one of the more exuberant first halfs whith an amazing ode to keeping healthy. North and south meet in a hard hitting play of emotions. Again the search for justice continues into a darker realm.

One of Bachchan's underrated films
superindrajit14 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The 90s period was an awful time for Amitabh Bachchan, even if he got a few hits, it was flops for him mostly. His career was sinking and people thought he wouldn't recover. His comeback films like Mrityudaata(1997) failed badly and other films like Lal Baadshah flopped as well. When actors like Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan were rising, Amitabh was failing and this was one of his career low points, sadly he couldn't recover till 2000.

Indrajeet(1991) came at a time when Bachchan only had Hum and Agneepath to his credit, Aaj Ka Arjun was an ordinary hit which was panned by critics. Indrajeet was a box office flop and only works because of Bachchan's performance. Otherwise, this is a typical movie which might have worked in the 80s if not the 70s. The film tells the story of sincere cop Indrajeet who has always maintained a personal enmity with the politician Kader Khan and corrupt officer Sadashiv Amrapukar. He has a daughter Neelam who is in love and wants to marry Kumar Gaurav. The first half of the film does contain action sequences but the main focus is one the love story of Neelam and Kumar Gaurav and how they get Bachchan to agree to this relationship. They get married but both get killed by Kader's son and his 3 friends. When Amitabh tries to take legal action(after his retirement), he gets arrested and tortured. He is released and he swears to kill the culprits one by one, that is the rest of the story.

Direction by K.V Raju is mediocre, he handles some scenes extremely well and the action sequences support the film but the pace of the film drops and the melodrama ruins the film in those parts. The flashback of Amitabh and Jaya wasn't required but it does reveal an important part of the story nearing the end of the flashback. The dialogues are impressive in parts, corny in parts. What doesn't work is the unnecessary torture scene which slows the film completely and it sucks to watch Amitabh crippled and unable to drink tea.

Amitabh Bachchan performs well and his expressions are decent, this is one of his decent performances from the 90s period where most of his performances were average. This performance is good but still not as good as the one from Agneepath and Hum where he gave power packed performances. Jaya Prada is decent but doesn't have a meaty role, this is one of her shorter roles.Kumar Gaurav plays the stereotypical romantic hero ably and he does a decent job, his death scene works because he doesn't overact. Neelam is good but her crying is irritating and her getting brutally murdered is just upsetting. Kader Khan makes a decent villain though he has done such roles many times. Sadashiv Amrapukar is annoying and hams it up in parts as the evil cop. Avtaar Gill is annoying with his fake evil look and he gets on your nerves especially when he tortures Bachchan in the cell. The rest provide decent support the film required.

On the whole, Indrajeet is not a bad movie even if it flopped at the box office, it is decent and impressive in parts but it could have been better.
