The creator of the wildly popular “Hunger Games” series has put pen to paper and will release a fifth volume in her dystopian book franchise for young adult readers, as per a report by the Associated Press. “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” is expected to hit shelves on March 18, 2025, and will further develop the mythos of the post-apocalyptic fascist government whose society is somehow dependent on teen gladiatorial events.
The 61-year-old writer, whose career began working on Nickelodeon shows like “Clarissa Explains it All,” “The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo,” and “Wow! Wow! Wubzy!” has sold an estimated 100 million copies of her “Hunger Games” novels thus far.

Melissa Joan Hart said it was “hard” for her to take on more serious roles after years on Nickelodeon.
The actress, who has been in the entertainment industry for more than three decades, recently told People magazine that she now likes to “mix it up” when choosing characters and genres, but that it took some time to get to this point.
“I love doing these true crime movies because I never trusted myself to do drama when I was younger,” Hart said. “I did, when I was really young, I was actually in one of the episodes of The Equalizer, when I was about seven years old … and did some other dramatic roles — that was easy for me when I was a child. But then, as I got more comfortable with comedy, it was harder for me to flip into drama.”

In the opening image of “I Saw the TV Glow” the camera moves slowly down the middle of a suburban street. Dusk, it’s dark, but the sky has a hint of electric blue, as the camera passes over children’s chalk drawings that pop from the pavement like incandescent lights toward a neon-lit ice cream truck playing a slowed down children’s tune. This establishing shot embodies the magical, but slightly eery tone of the first half of the film and the childhood world of Owen, who we cut to watching television in the dark.

Melissa Joan Hart is the latest Nickelodeon star to address Quiet On Set, the Investigation Discovery docuseries that revealed alleged experiences of abuse, sexism, and racism on children’s TV shows from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Hart, who starred in the Nickelodeon teen sitcom Clarissa Explains It All from 1991 to 1994, appeared on the Meghan McCain Has Entered The Chat podcast on Thursday, March 28, stating she “absolutely believes” the allegations even though she doesn’t have any personal horror stories. “I don’t know other people’s experiences, and I’m not negating anything anybody else says. I’ve never been told these people’s stories that are in the [docuseries],” Hart said, per Deadline. “And I have to say, I’ve never heard a story from a Nickelodeon star personally; nobody’s come to me and talked to me about any of these situations. If there's one actress whose name is synonymous with the "Halloween" franchise, created by director John Carpenter in 1978, it's Jamie Lee Curtis. If there's another, it's Danielle Harris. Curtis holds the record for most "Halloween" movie appearances with six film, not counting archival footage, and the late Donald Pleasance is in five (though his likeness was used in the new "Halloween" trilogy). Harris, however, appearing in four "Halloween" movies, is the only actress to play two different characters in the franchise, and she did so by never taking no for an answer. When conditions were wrong, she walked, and when arbitrary directorial edicts threatened to block her, she acted her way back in with the best audition.
Harris was a young child when she first encountered Michael Myers. What happened to that little girl? She grew up, but she never stopped working. These days, she's a mother in real life,...

Melissa Joan Hart is a fan-favorite actor who also happens to be a certified pop culture icon. She rose to prominence for her work in family-friendly sitcoms like Clarissa Explains It All only to become a major star for her work as the title character in Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Ultimately, it was Hart’s family-friendly image that led to some issues down the road. Most notably, Hart faced some serious repercussions after she opted to pose for the men’s magazine Maxim when the young star was at the height of her success.

Melissa Joan Hart has been in show business since she was a young girl breaking out in the Nickelodeon sitcom Clarissa Explains It All. Hart would go on to star in the ABC sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch, part of the family-friendly primetime programming block known as Tgif.
However, when the TV star went on to pose for Maxim, the magazine with risqué photo shoots, Hart found herself in quite the predicament that no spell could help her get out of.
Hart made an appearance on the Pod Meets World podcast where she recounted a whirlwind of a night the night Drive Me Crazy premiered in 1999. The star said she had broken up with her boyfriend but had to wait inside her limo until Britney Spears arrived so they could take photos together.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 9 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired April 12 on Fox.
It was “Masked Singer in Space Night,” but “The Masked Singer” could have also been celebrating “’90s Night.” That’s because the two celebrities unmasked on Wednesday’s episodes were both TV stars from that era: Melissa Joan Hart (of “Clarissa Explains It All” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” fame) and Alicia Witt. Hart was revealed to be Lamp, while Witt was Dandelion.
Witt had won the previous week as Dandelion, but her journey ended here. For Dandelion, panelist Ken Jeong guessed Witt right. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg thought it was Milla Jovovich. Robin Thicke went with Sara Bareilles and Nicole Scherzinger named Zooey Deschanel.
For Lamp, McCarthy Wahlberg, Thicke and Scherzinger all got it right with Hart. Jeong went rogue with Michelle Williams.

Melissa Joan Hart, the actor who became a ’90s teen icon thanks to her roles on Nickelodeon’s “Clarissa Explains It All” and ABC’s “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” revealed in an emotional Instagram video that she helped young children and teachers escape the Nashville school shooting on March 27. The 1990s brought about a lot of iconic shows, but one of the most iconic shows geared toward kids was definitely Clarissa Explains It All. The series, airing on Nickelodeon, followed Clarissa Darling as she navigated life as a quirky teen in her equally eccentric family. Melissa Joan Hart took on the lead role. While the series seemed to have a pretty basic premise, fans felt connected to Clarissa in a very real way. That’s likely because the character often broke the fourth wall to chat with her audience. Decades later, a reboot was planned, but it ultimately fell through. Hart explained why the reboot was nixed, and she is totally Ok with it.
A ‘Clarissa Explains It All’ reboot was once in the works
If you check out Melissa Joan Hart’s IMDb page, she has one upcoming project listed. It is the Clarissa Explains It All reboot.

Millennials never got to see Nickelodeon’s proposed Clarissa Explains It All reboot, but Melissa Joan Hart wasn’t the biggest fan of the project’s plotline anyway. “I believe it was that Clarissa is divorced and moving to California with her two kids and living on the beach in California with her aunt,” Hart told Insider in a recent interview. “So I don’t know. It wasn’t my favorite way in.” Hart, 46, played the eponymous teen of Clarissa Explains It All for the Nick sitcom’s five-season run between 1991 and 1994, before going on to star in the ABC sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the ABC Family comedy Melissa & Joey. Mark Malabrigo/Nickelodeon In 2018, Nickelodeon was in early stages of a Clarissa Explains It All reboot, with Hart executive-producing the project alongside series creator Mitchell Kriegman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Melissa Joan Hart is putting an end to rumours circulating online that she and Lena Dunham are feuding.
The former child star, who rose to fame on the 90s sitcom “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, took to Instagram on Friday to lay the “hot gossip” to rest.

Lena’s Dunham’s new film Catherine Called Birdy represents a difficult case for this critic. The overwhelming feeling of “it’s simply not for me” throughout the runtime makes it an instance of having to determine if what rang as false or annoying was simply a personal failing. And there’s certainly passion here: Dunham made her personal investment clear before the screening, noting how reading the young adult book by Karen Cushman as an alienated 10-year-old weirdo in 1996 was a life-transforming event. And speaking as one who was definitely a 10-year-old weirdo themselves, the passion is observed, if not totally felt.
Living in 13th-century England, Birdy (Bella Ramsey) is an obnoxious, opinionated, but also intelligent and animal-loving 14-year-old who causes quite the stir amongst all the adults in her life, including of course her exasperated father Sir Rollo (Andrew Scott) and mother Lady Aislinn (Billie Piper). "What's the matter? I have to be a witch, I have to be a mortal, I have to be a teenager and I have to be a girl all at the same time. That's what's the matter." It's not often that an actor lands two iconic roles during their career. And yet, by the time she had turned 20 years old, Melissa Joan Hart had already starred in two genre-defining series. First, Hart played the titular character in Clarissa Explains It All, which ran on Nickelodeon from 1991 to 1994. Five years later, she once again netted the title role in a show: Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Melissa Joan Hart told fans of her ’90s Nickelodeon show “Clarissa Explains It All” is no longer happening, People reports.
Hart was attending ’90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, on Saturday and sitting in on the panel for “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,” her other ’90s series, when she was asked about the status of the “Clarissa” reboot, which was first reported in 2018.
“We tried that, actually. Nickelodeon got a new president, and they kind of squashed the whole thing,” Hart said of the reboot, according to People, and referring to Bryan Robbins, who took over as president of the cable network for kids from Cyma Zarghami in 2018. “So it was actually in the works and, yeah, it just sort of disappeared. It took like a year to do the contracts, which was the hardest part, and then it just kind of fizzled out. So I don’t think [it will happen].”

The original series created by Mitchell Kriegman aired for five seasons between 1991 and 1994. In it, Hart played Clarissa Darling, a teenager speaking directly to the camera as she navigated typical adolescent issues, from school and young love to dealing with her younger brother. News first broke that Hart would be reteaming with Kriegman for a Clarissa reboot,...

Nickelodeon got a new president, and they kind of squashed the whole thing,” Hart said in a Saturday appearance at ’90s Con, reported on by People. “So it was actually in the works and yeah, it just sort of disappeared.
I met Danielle Perez during an event for the podcast The Bechdel Cast, where she was talking about “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.” It was my first few weeks of living in Los Angeles, and as a disabled woman who was bemoaning the lack of disabled people in the city, to see a disabled woman of color not just onstage but rocking it was amazing.
Since that time, Perez has blossomed into a regular face in the stand-up world, and has been writing for television — her latest job is on the Netflix series “The Wedding Coach” — as well as making regular television appearances like in Ryan O’Connell’s Emmy-winning series “Special.”
When it comes to a discussion of representation, Perez approaches it differently because she became a wheelchair user when she was 20. But she was already cognizant of how television viewed her, as she is Afro-Latina. “I knew I...

Fans of the ‘90s aesthetic have a special appreciation for the television that came out of the era, especially classic sitcoms including “The Nanny,” which is now officially streaming on HBO Max. The series, co-created by Fran Drescher who stars as a straight-talking Jewish fashionista from Queens who gets hired as a nanny to the children of a former Broadway star, is one of the many classic TV shows that you can find on streaming platforms.
That’s the great thing about streaming, it’s an easy way to get to your favorite shows, but it can also be overwhelming, what with all the content floating around to choose from. Chances are you’re already familiar with Netflix,...

If any living actor knows how to prepare for a death scene, it’s probably Sean Bean. From The Lord of the Rings to GoldenEye, Patriot Games or Clarissa, the man has learned his away around simulating that last breath. But probably his most famous death scene, at least this side of Gondor, was also one of the most brutally sudden: when Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell gets beheaded on the steps of Baelor in Game of Thrones.
The sequence, which occurs during the ninth episode of Game of Thrones’ first season, ominously titled “Baelor,” is the one that came to define the show’s reputation for cruel thrills, and an unsentimental mean streak that allowed it to kill major protagonists off without a seeming second thought. And there was apparently no forethought at all from King Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), the vicious boy king who gave the order to...

Making a short film is hard enough — but imagine making one on very little budget, or during the coronavirus pandemic.
On the panel titled “Telling our Stories Film Contest” at TheWrap’s Power Women Summit, six finalists of the contest presented by Starz and TheWrap delved into the challenges of making their films. The short films highlighted themes of womanhood, community and representation, and all the submissions were from women and gender-nonconforming filmmakers of color. All six finalists — which were chosen out of 1,100 submissions evaluated by industry professionals — will see their work on Starz, with the winner receiving a $10,000 prize.
One finalist, Jazmin Johnson, wrote and directed “Sounds of War,” which depicts her thoughts as a young Black woman in America. She said she made her movie over the summer, right after George Floyd’s death and in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.

James Corden conjured up Melissa Joan Hart and a beloved talking cat for a spellbinding (and educational!) reunion timed to All Hallows’ Eve.
The Late Late Show revived Sabrina the Teenage Witch — or, should we say, Subpoena the Teenage Witch — on Wednesday. Hart reprised her star-making role as Sabrina Spellman, while Nick Bakay returned to voice Salem. In the sketch, Sabrina was visited by her cousin James, who teleported from Washington D.C. to tell the enchantress about her new power to issue subpoenas. Netflix has cancelled the Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin comedy “No Good Nick” after just one season, individuals with knowledge of the cancellation tell TheWrap.
The multi-camera followed 13-year-old Nick, short for Nicole, who infiltrates a family with the intention to get revenge on them for unknowingly ruining her life. As she gets to know the family, she will find compassion for them and will struggle with whether or not she can ultimately go through with the plan.
Hart played the career mom to Astin’s knuckle-headed dad, with Siena Agudong (Nickelodeon’s “Star Falls”) as Nick. It also starred Lauren Lindsey Donzis and Kalama Epstein, who are also veteran child actors.

The beloved animated series “Kim Possible,” which aired for five years on the Disney Channel in the early aughts, connected with its audience because it portrayed a strong but fashion-forward young woman who fought crime and got good grades. So it only makes sense that when the network decided to reboot the story and titular character as a live-action TV movie, the creative team behind it would want to preserve the message of female empowerment while updating the tale to relate to a whole new batch of 6 to 14-year-old viewers.
“When I first joined the project, it was right around the time ‘Wonder Woman’ had been released,” says executive producer Zanne Devine. “Given this moment in time, my pitch was this is ‘Wonder Woman’ for the prepubescent set.”

This one has much bigger names on it. In Evel Dick's tweet he captioned the leaked list photo with the following words: "Don't know how legit this is, but I'm just gonna pass it on...One that is troubling is Dan Crenshaw. He was just elected & sworn in, first term. He's gonna leave responsibilities to get locked in a house for a month? So, seems fishy." You...

The topless protester who confronted Bill Cosby on the first day of his sexual assault retrial at Pennsylvania's Montgomery County Courthouse on April 9 isn't just an activist. She is also an actress who recurred on The Cosby Show, the disgraced comedian's most famous TV comedy, two and a half decades ago. In the wake of her courthouse protest, Nicolle tells People she only experienced a family-friendly atmosphere during her time on the show, but she empathizes with Bill's alleged victims. "The protest wasn't about me knowing him, but there's a part of me that feels betrayed because I can understand what the victims were feeling," she says. "Like, that could have been me. I could've undergone the abuse as well." As footage from the courthouse shows,...

Melissa Joan Hart‘s three sons with husband Mark Wilkerson buck the expectation of a tech-obsessed next generation growing up with screens constantly in their faces.
“There isn’t really one thing they value more than going outside to play with neighborhood kids,” the actress, 41, tells People in this week’s issue. “They don’t really like electronics, and they are just as happy reading as playing with toys.”
Though the Watcher in the Woods director says she wishes she could limit screen time even more for Tucker, 5, Braydon, 9½, and Mason, 11, she considers it a victory to have curbed her kids’ soda cravings.
