2017-07-27T06:39:47-07:00June Foray, Voice of Rocky the Squirrel, Dies at 99
June Foray, the famed “first lady of voice actors” whose repertoire of characters include Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Pottsylvanian spy Natasha Fatale, Tweety Bird’s owner Granny and a sinister talking doll, has died. She was 99.
Foray, who worked alongside such animated legends as Mel Blanc, Chuck Jones, Stan Freberg and Jay Ward during her unseen yet spectacular eight-decade career, died Wednesday according to close friend Dave Nimitz who posted a notice of her passing on Facebook.
Versatile in her intonations and cadence, Foray provided voices for an incredible range of characters, including the killer Talky Tina doll in the 1963 “Living Doll” installment of The Twilight Zone, an episode said to be inspired by Mattel’s enormously popular pull-string Chatty Cathy doll (she provided the voice for that, too).

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What is the scariest moment or scene on TV?
Ben Travers (@BenTTravers), IndieWire
Though there are moments within “Penny Dreadful” (the seance) and “The X-Files” (“Home”) that left me spooked, the title for scariest TV scene has to go to the only show to give me nightmares — actual, legitimate nightmares. After watching the first two episodes of “Hannibal,” I woke up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat and haunted by a bright red room with blood running down the walls — twice! Two weeks in a row, “Hannibal” ruined my peaceful slumber, and I had to stop watching the show live (and during the night entirely). Each week,...

TLC has something really gritty in store for the next episode of My Strange Addiction. On Wednesday's episode, a peculiar gal named Patrice will come clean about her love for, um, brick dust. The sunny English woman, 28, explains how her U.K. surroundings - Big Ben, the House of Parliament, you name it - is just like one big, delicious smorgasbord to her. "I've always got to have it," she says simply. If that's not odd enough, her obviously patient husband Calvin seems rather accepting of his wife's peccadillo that she picked up from, of all people, her grandmother. And...

A bench featured in the opening credits of Bottom is to be unveiled today (November 14) in tribute to Rik Mayall.
Around 7,000 fans had campaigned for the bench to be reinstalled in the same spot in Hammersmith, London, following the death of Mayall in June.
Hammersmith Council have now replaced it, with the inscription: "In Memory of The Man, The Myth, The Legend."
Bottom's opening titles saw Mayall and co-star Adrian Edmondson fighting on the original bench.
Before he died, Mayall had spoken of his disappointment after hearing that the bench at the junction of Queen Caroline Street and Hammersmith Bridge Road had been removed.
The unveiling will include a tribute written by Mayall's Young Ones co-star Nigel Planer. There will also be a comedy sing-song including the theme to The Young Ones, the cast's 'Living Doll' duet with Cliff Richard, and 'Because I'm Evil' from 20th Century Coyote.

For Halloween, we celebrate The Simpsons' best Treehouse Of Horror stories, feat. zombies, Hitchcock and Kubrick spoofs and more...
“Nothing seems to bother my kids but tonight's show, which I totally wash my hands of, is really scary.”
For anyone who grew up watching The Simpsons, the Treehouse Of Horror Halloween specials are an annual horror staple, from spooky couch gag to horror-themed credits. You can learn an awful lot of things just from watching the show, but for younger audiences, these episodes gave us our introduction to certain iconic horror stories.
Having ditched the early framing device of the family telling scary stories to one another, with Springfielders cast in key roles, the format is now closer to a mini-anthology of terror with three stories that take place outside of canon. This has usually given the writers licence to be more gruesome and outlandish than in the regular series,...

The mischievous smile that adorns the Annabelle doll supports what horror films have exploited for years…dolls are creepy. The doll from Magic, Dead of Night, The Twilight Zone episode Living Doll, and Poltergeist are just a few of the figures that have spooked audiences. Annabelle finds it’s influence from James Wan’s The Conjuring, where the doll first made it’s appearance, however the compliments are few for this uninspired and holiday-exploited horror film.

John is busy at medical school while Mia prepares for their child at home. Dark Hall Mansion has announced that they will be releasing a 10-print Twilight Zone subscription featuring art created by Tom Whalen. To kick it off they've released the first print, which was inspired by one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes, "Eye of the Beholder."
Other episodes that will be covered in the series include “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” “Living Doll,” and “Nick of Time,” plus a few other surprises. Here's some information provided on the illustration above:
A disturbing classic, the episode’s final imagery is arresting and unforgettable even to contemporary audiences. Tom Whalen has created a piece for “Eye of the Beholder” that is deliberate and meticulously crafted, from its “The Twilight Zone” ‘eye’ element, to its “Beholder” font, a font that Tom noted specifically echoes a studied association with the word “beautiful,” the print’s composition is at once grounded in the reality of the episode while...

Arrow has cast a new Count Vertigo. TVGuide reports that Peter Stormare has been cast as Werner Zytle, who takes over the Count Vertigo name.
I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the idea of Lifetime’s The Lottery. At least, I’ve been trying to imagine how a drama about a dark future for humanity would work on Lifetime. Here’s the first trailer for the series:
This season, the winner of So You Think You Can Dance will win a role on the Broadway revival of On the Town — provided the show is running when there’s an opening in the cast.
Fringe alum Georgina Haig has been picked to play Elsa in Once Upon a Time‘s Frozen Storyline.
Morning After observes that seeing Tori Spelling‘s Mystery Girls so soon after her raw reality show True Tori finished makes her the real life version of The Combeback.

Entertainment Earth has revealed five radical action figures that are inspired by some of the classic characters that we've seen in the classic 1960s TV series The Twilight Zone. These are exclusive action figures that were created in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con, which is set to take place this coming July. The figures include the Gremlin; William Shatner's Bob Wilson; Invader; the alien Kanamit; Henry Bemis, and Talking Tina. The Twilight Zone is my favorite series of all time, and I want these!
The toys will be available at the Entertainment Earth booth #2343. I've included the descriptions that came along with each of the figures.

55 years ago, television and the genre as a whole would be changed by an amazing show called The Twilight Zone. Rod Serling’s show was a heavy influence on my childhood. While you can pick up the individual seasons on DVD and Blu-Ray, I always thought it would be nice to introduce someone new to the series with some of my favorite episodes. Image Entertainment will be fulfilling the need with The Twilight Zone: Essential Episodes when it hits DVD in July. Read onward for the press release and find out what episodes are essential.

London, April 21: Cliff Richard has said during a TV interview that even if he were gay, it wouldn't make any difference.
The 73-year-old singer said that the rumours about him being gay hurt him when he was young and affected his family too, the Daily Express reported.
He said that it doesn't really matter to him any more, as he has gay friends and most people have gay friends.
The 'Living Doll' hitmaker didn't reveal whether he was gay or straight, but admitted that he never wanted the responsibility of a wife and family.
Richard added that he just didn't get married, as he never felt that it was the right time and he can do the things he wants to do. (Ani)...

Retro action figures are gaining a lot of popularity these days, with companies producing figures we wish we had back in the 70′s and 80′s. The '80s and '90s brought us some of the best cartoons ever made, but one thing that made '90s cartoons so special is how irreverent and pop-culture oriented they were. Suddenly we were inundated with shockingly adult innuendos and obscure movie references that flew over the heads of most children watching these cartoons. Horror films were no exception - these show-runners loved to drop references to everything from horror classics to '80s slashers. Here are ten of my favorites: The Critic - "Miserable" (1994) The Critic was short-lived but beloved by fans for its hilarious movie parodies that lampooned everything from Orson Welles to Ace Ventura. The most memorable horror spoof was entitled "Miserable" wherein titular critic Jay Sherman gets kidnapped by his biggest fan in an obvious parody of Misery (1990). Even the gruesome woodblock/sledgehammer scene makes an appearance. Bobby's World - "Adventures in Bobby Sitting...

2013 – the year of Chucky. Not only did Charles Lee Ray terrorize viewers in a brand new, well received sequel, Don Mancini’s Curse Of Chucky, but celebrating his 25 years of slaughtering, harassing, and insulting, Universal has released Chucky: The Complete Collection limited edition Blu-Ray/DVD. Sure, you could always just buy Curse Of Chucky on Blu-Ray separately, but for fans of the series, Universal has packaged all six Chucky films, including Mancini’s latest curse, in one convenient collection. Hell, if you don’t own any of them and are intrigued by Curse of Chucky, might as well buy them all together and have a proper marathon – which might have been what I did.
The best part about owning every Chucky film is watching the transformation Mancini’s franchise goes through over the years. Child’s Play starts out as the most straight-forward, simplistic horror possible. Charles Lee Ray’s (Brad Dourif) backstory is established,...

Cinema Retro mourns the passing of director Richard C. Sarafian, who has passed away at age 83. Sarafian may not be a household name but in the film industry he was held in great regard, especially by maverick younger directors like Quentin Tarantino who emulated his work and style. He started off directing episodes of classic TV series including I Spy and Batman and his best known work from the 1960s is the eerie "Living Doll" episode of The Twilight Zone in which Telly Savalas as a cruel stepfather gets his comeuppance at the hands of possessed toy doll. Director of the mystical road movie Vanishing Point
Vanishing Point was one of a crop of existential road movies in the early 1970s – the others included Two-Lane Blacktop and Electra Glide in Blue – which quickly gained cult status. Its director, Richard C Sarafian, who has died aged 83, never made another film that struck such a resounding chord with audiences, countercultural or otherwise. No matter: the appeal of Vanishing Point was enduring enough to make him a noted, even influential, figure. Quentin Tarantino thanked Sarafian in the closing credits of his own four-wheeled thriller, Death Proof (2007), and the Scottish band Primal Scream signalled their admiration for Vanishing Point by naming a 1997 album after the movie. "It's always been a favourite of the band," said the singer Bobby Gillespie. "We love the air of paranoia and speed-freak righteousness."

While Fiona Dourif’s small glimpses into Don Mancini’s latest Child’s Play sequel Curse Of Chucky were very much appreciated by fans who were worried about what type of Good Guy doll we’d be getting this time around, we finally have our first genuine look at the Chuckster back in action with the release of the first trailer for Mancini’s upcoming film. A picture is worth a thousand words, but let’s be honest – a trailer is worth a million.
Back again is legendary voice actor Brad Dourif as our red-haired devil doll, as Mancini reverts back to a cleaner doll form which gets rid of the stitches Franken-Chucky has recently been sporting. Along with embracing the old Chucky look, we can now also tell Curse Of Chucky won’t be full of the jokey material both Bride Of Chucky and Seed Of Chucky experimented with.

Michael Ausiello reveals that Boy Meets World sequel series Girl Meets World is looking to find someone to play lead Girl‘s Riley‘s cousin. That implies we can hope to see Will Friedle appear in the sequel series.
Three down, one more to go?
Switched at Birth will see Joey Lauren Adams appear in two episodes as Nikki‘s mother. I guess that means we’re not going to see Toby break off the engagement anytime soon, as I’ve hoped.
Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan tells The Wrap that he’s working “full speed ahead” on the possible Saul Goodman-focused spin-off.
The Hallmark Channel has cancelled Marie Osmond‘s barely-promoted talk show Marie. Hallmark, which cancelled Martha last year, says its switching to instructional shows in the daytime. Meanwhile, Marie ‘s producers are trying to sell the show to TV stations as a syndicated series.
